NY6 games... http://i.imgur.com/YLrcRxO.png

Thread double posting? Need a new one for bowl season? Edit: Seems OK, just a little slow. I'll make a new one for convenience.

The Syracuse thing was pretty close to being a done deal. Thinking Ash backed out when other teams (ie. Rutgers) showed interest. If Rutgers can get even just half of the best kids in the state to stay home they can field a solid team. I don't know if Ash is a guy who can do that but that's the goal of anyone taking that job. Keep as many NJ kids home as you can then hope you can win a few in PA and the DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia) area.

Everyone remember to root for Team Chaos today. I think OSU is in with losses by Alabama and Stanford. Unfortunately I think the chances of Alabama losing are somewhere in the 1% range. Is it possible OSU gets in with JUST a Clemson loss? Maybe. But the threat of UNC sliding into their spot with a W means it's not a guarantee. The guarantee is Bama AND Stanford. Other than that it's a guessing game.

I'd echo what Zx2guy19 said. I like that Herman didn't upgrade immediately. He wants to build something of his own before he takes off. The jobs he probably had available to him... USCw, USCe, Miami, Georgia. I think all of those except for USCe would have given him the potential to win a national title at some point. I don't think any of the 3 ended up with as good a coach as Herman (USCw kept their interim guy, Miami got Richt who could never get over the hump at Georgia and Georgia got a first-time HC in Smart). As for what he's waiting for (and his buyout is tiny compared to what I was thinking it would be if he took that raise at Houston - just $2.5m)... Texas is definitely the prevailing thought. He was a GA there. He's now spent over a decade of his coaching career in the state (Texas Lutheran, Texas, Texas State, Rice, Sam Houston State). UT is the pinnacle so if he has some kind of connection to the state I guess he jumps at that if they come calling. I think in the end he just wasn't going to go anywhere after just one year at Houston so who knows... maybe he takes a job that doesn't look as good as USCw or Georgia or Miami after next season. Or maybe Texas does open up and he ends up there. I know a lot of OSU fans think he's a slam dunk to replace Urban when that time comes but I'm not buying it. Obviously he'd be a great choice but I don't think he has this great connection to Ohio. Born in Cincy but really grew up in California and then as I said he has spent most of his coaching career in Texas.
-
People calling for his head early this season were morons. But if he doesn't do better next season then I'd agree. Need to see 8+ wins. Texas should know pretty early though. They play Notre Dame, Oklahoma State, Oklahoma and Baylor before November.
-
Herman officially staying at Houston. Dude could have had pretty much any job available out there and is sticking it out for at least one more year with the Cougars. They open next season at NRG Stadium in Houston against Oklahoma. Of course, OSU also plays Oklahoma early next season in Norman. Oklahoma has begun some pretty serious renovations for this off-season that will be completed in time for the 2016 season so they'll have a national audience to show it all off when OSU comes to town.
-
Haha... good. I was honestly a little confused because you were literally posting some of the same stuff I was posting myself (ie. not needing to throw vs. Michigan). And as LJ posted, Ash is out of the Syracuse race. He's still almost certainly going to end up elsewhere though. Toledo's OC getting their HC job is good. Warinner was sniffing around there.

You're still not quite getting what I'm saying. The team did what they were supposed to do. They did well. I'm not saying they're failures or a bunch of bums as you seem to be getting from my posts. I'm just not on the "they can beat anyone right now" bandwagon as you and I guess a lot of others are based on one game.
-
Definitely didn't say that. Since you couldn't get the gist of my post on your first run through, I'll try to make it simpler for you... OSU did what they should have done against Michigan given the recent exposure of their run defense without Glasgow. It did nothing to alleviate concerns with the passing game which was absent against Michigan State and not needed against Michigan. OSU probably wouldn't win games vs. Iowa or Alabama passing the ball 15 times for just over 100 yards.
-
I don't really think OSU clicked. I think OSU took advantage of a Michigan run defense that was exposed against Indiana. Like I said before The Game, OSU should be able to pound it because if Indiana had any semblance of a defense they would have won that game against Michigan just running it over and over and over again. The loss of Glasgow in the middle for Michigan allowed for the exposure. Michigan allowed more rushing yards in their final 3 games of the season (Indiana, PSU, OSU) than they did in the first 9 games of the season. OSU's passing game is still a question mark. They didn't need it against Michigan but they would have needed it if they had their shot against Iowa (#6 rush defense) or Alabama (#1 rush defense). I don't disagree with Cowherd's main point, that it's not absurd to rank Bama and OSU similarly, but I definitely don't have this supreme confidence after OSU took advantage of a freshly exposed weakness in the Michigan defense.

Looking like Chris Ash will be Syracuse's new HC.
-
OSU @ Oklahoma will be tough. OSU losing 3 OL, Zeke, Vannett, probably Mike Thomas on offense. Bosa, Washington, Schutt, Perry, possibly Lee and Bell. So 9-12 out of 22 on offense and defense including 6 linemen. Oklahoma losing 6 guys total from what could end up being a national championship team. At least OSU will have a couple tune up games before that.
-
Bama is 0-1 vs. top 20 teams. OSU is 1-1. Boom. Nailed it. More than half of the teams in the B1G are bowl eligible. 8/14 = 57%. The SEC does have more bowl eligible teams at 10/14 but Auburn, a 6-6 team, may not have been bowl eligible had it not been for their dominant 7-point win in OT against FCS Jacksonville State. Maybe if Nebraska (5-7) and Minnesota (5-7) had scheduled an FCS opponent as the SEC loves to do they would have given the B1G 10 bowl eligible teams.
-
Oh and here's a list of P5 jobs that are currently open... Syracuse South Carolina USC Miami Maryland Missouri Virginia Georgia Rutgers Teams like VT and Iowa State have already made their moves with some good, young coaching prospects in Fuente (39) and Campbell (36).
-
I don't think jive is crazy for thinking the committee would strongly consider taking a 2-loss Pac 12 champion Stanford over a 1-loss not even divisional champion Ohio State. I also agree that it's very possible the committee would slide a 1-loss ACC champion UNC in if they were to upset Clemson. Their schedule is pretty weak but if they take down undefeated Clemson en route to a P5 conference title then who's to argue? I'd love to see Florida and UNC win just to see what the committee would do because they'd be setting precedents. Right now they want Clemson and Bama to win so there's no controversy. Either or both of those teams lose and they've got some serious decisions to make for the second year in a row.

2009?

Going to be "more involved" is the wording I've seen around the interwebs. This isn't some magical fix it button though. Urban's never really called plays. Never been an OC. He gets "more involved" with regards to different units of his teams all the time but he never just straight takes over.
-
Most plausible way the B1G doesn't get in is if Iowa loses to Nebraska on Friday then wins the B1G title game. Their cross-divisional games were against the worst of the B1G East - Indiana and Maryland - but they do have what will likely end up being a top 15 slaughter of Northwestern and a nice OOC win @ Pitt. It would still be close. The most guaranteed way for the B1G to play itself out of the playoff? Nebraska beats Iowa, PSU beats MSU, Michigan beats OSU, Michigan beats Iowa in B1G title game. 2-loss Michigan wouldn't get in over 1-loss ND.
-
Also, B1G has as many teams in the top 10 as the SEC has in the entire poll. B1G bias confirmed.
-
Man, Oklahoma didn't even need the help I thought they would to get into the top 4. ND down to 6. Not gonna toot my own horn too much on that just yet though because as I pointed out when making the argument that an undefeated Big 12 team would make the playoff or even a 1-loss Big 12 team could make the playoff... the committee's rankings are very fluid. But both of OU and ND only have 1 game left and they're both road games against opponents ranked inside the top 11 of the CFP.
-
OSU opened as 2.5 point favorite. Line was pushed to Michigan -3 at one point, back to Michigan -1.5 most places. That initial 5.5 point push took place in just over 3 hours after the line came out. That's a lot of movement. Indiana ran it down Michigan's throats. If Indiana had any semblance of a defense that was a W for them. OSU should be able to do the same and they have a defense. But in the end it's The Game so everything goes out the window.
-
Obviously the part of Zeke's quote that made all the headlines was where he said he didn't like the playcalling and asked for more carries. What didn't make headlines was the end of his rant where he said they were going to give them hell in Ann Arbor this weekend. But yeah, obviously OSU would have to beat Michigan but that doesn't even matter if PSU doesn't beat MSU which they most likely will not.
-
No... no I wasn't. You really need to work on your reading comprehension if you think anything I said was incorrect.
-
Felt the same way about the loss. All week my non-OSU friends were asking me how nervous or worried I was and I was just like... not at all. They were like, you're that confident? And I responded... no, it's just it's time to put up or shut up. Either they win this weekend and get in the groove in time for a title run or they lose and they didn't deserve a title run. Nothing to worry about, either way OSU will get what they deserve. And I probably didn't read every single post in here but I don't think a ton of people are talking about OSU getting into the playoff anymore. Need PSU with a QB who pretty much quit this past weekend and has never had even a decent OL in front of him to take down the MSU team that just came into Columbus and held an Urban Meyer coached team to the fewest yards in his career just to make it to the B1G title game. You're exactly right that 2007-esque chaos is the only way.
