I don't think so. Given what the tranny is doing now, I'm thinking there are some broken bits in the bottom.

Only marginally better, but the ratios are more suited for the V8 compared to the 4cyl. trans. The 4.06 first gear is nasty. I wasted 3 in a Turbo T-Bird ages ago.

Compared to what? AFR heads, Custom ported Stockers huge cam, custom manifold? Last I checked the O.P. was on a budget. I didn't say it was optimal, but the combo works. Will it make 500whp? No, but with a proper tune, it'll run strong.
