Nobody is saying we will get a tax break. That is not the issue. I think you may be confused.
Indiana collects nearly $900 million yearly in tax revenues from the casinos. A significant portion comes from Ohioans.
On the attack on the taxation of this property, it should be noted that this casino/resort would be the highest-taxed company in Ohio. Start with the tax before the tax: a 30 percent gross-win gaming tax. On the remaining 70 percent, the casino must pay its overhead, state taxes, federal taxes, property taxes, employment taxes, sales tax, occupancy tax, etc. The casino would not be asking for any tax abatements or credits.
This project includes the building of a guaranteed $600 million resort/casino that would be the largest private investment in Ohio in the 21st century. This would employ up to 5,000 Ohioans at an average salary of $34,000, plus full benefits. In addition, there would be a hiring of 2,000-3,000 Ohioans in the construction of this facility. If this were a Honda plant, would we have to fight to locate in Ohio and offer thousands of jobs?
