  1. there's a pic on the net somewhere with a GT-R parked next to a cobalt SS with the big wing. shot was taken from the back. you'd be shocked at how similar they look... let me try to find it
  2. for getting out of snow... wtf btw... pdggp lol @ your pic
  3. I've got an awesome picture of a Saturn...
  4. lol, yeah, but that's also a 1400 hp 4cyl...
  5. Here's the book I'm talking about: http://www.crateenginedepot.com/store/Ecotec-Performance-Build-Book-88958728-P1965C6.aspx
  6. I have an ecotec build book that shows you step-by-step what it takes to get to 250hp, 400hp, 600hp, 1000hp and 1400hp. it has complete parts lists and everything, and is published by GM. I've got my own copy, but you can also view it here : http://tunersource.gmblogs.com/Racer-Tech/ECOtec-LSJ-Build-Book EDIT : that is one of the two books I have, which doesn't go into the more extreme power levels. I will try to find the other one, hold on
  7. not quite sure. he's on the cobalt forums (cobaltss.net) member name 06blackg85ss
  8. Idk... probably. I don't remember anyone ever posting what the stock ones weighed. And, yes, I did read that part. However, this is not my first time doing pistons Just my first setting timing. (and before you ask, I helped a buddy do pistons when I lived in AZ, but left for work before we put the head/cams/timing back on)
  9. For the stock supercharger, the most anyone has seen without nitrous is sub-300. A small shot will get you over that. The TVS guys regularly see over 300, easily, with some of the more 'built' motors seeing in upwards of 400. One guy has the record with the TVS at 421whp. Then he saw a lot of knock and blew a rod. He was on 10.5:1 pistons, all bolt-ons and a ported head, but only the exhaust side. He was the first on the TVS to reach that point, so I'm sure with many more people getting the TVS and trial/error, the secrets will be out on how to safely do it. The turbo conversion guys... Well, one guy I know on the forums has a turbo swapped stock internal motor that made 440whp 385wtq. Stock motor! He has since torn it down to build it with pistons, hg, p&p head... etc. But again.. trial/error. I have a lot of respect for him and his car, but I just prefer to stay supercharged.
  10. They are forged aluminum, 332 grams each. Not sure how heavy stock is. Here's a link to them if you want. http://www.ottperformance.com/Cobalt/Ion-Engine/c2_19/p332/Diamond-Forged-Pistons-2.0L-LSJ/product_info.html
  11. I have nothing against turbos, I just prefer to stay supercharged. The TVS is light years ahead of the stock Eaton M62 in terms of efficiency and will take the motor much further. Could I make more power with a turbo? Of course. But my goal is 400whp, and even that is too much for a FWD compact car. The 250 whp was on a very conservative tune, about 10 months ago, with stock exhaust. I was running a richer 11.4-5 afr and only about 17-18 deg timing. The tune that was on there also did not have accurate MAF/MAP settings. I could lean it up a bit and safely push over 20 deg timing and throw in the right airflow tables and see a good gain. A buddy of mine in PA with the same mods made 275 whp. Let's just say I'm talking to him... I have a lot more into the car since then and I also have my own tuning software so I doubt that the 250whp estimate is still accurate.
  12. stock pistons are hypereutectic and are limited to around 330-350 whp. i was going to replace pistons anyway to reach my goal of 400. I'm using stock compression, but the pistons themselves are much much stronger. and as long as i'm tearing into the motor that far, i might as well upgrade the pistons
  13. the same night i put the tvs on
  14. Very helpful. thank you. if i am not mistaken, there should be marks on the block by the crank pulley noting where #1 TDC is, right? are there similar marks by the cam gears? nope... blown headgasket
  15. i literally lol'd at this...
  16. thanks guys. i appreciate the warmer welcome than most noobs get here
  17. this is actually my second ion redline. i had a red one before with the small spoiler. i will have to say that if i would have any spoiler, it would be the big one. either go big or go wingless. the small one just don't look right. wing-less is teh sexxy though
  18. the balance shaft elimination kit sounds appealing...
  19. well.. i have a blown headgasket that needs replaced. got myself a new cometic hg and some pistons that need installed and it requires removing the cams and timing
  20. Going to be tearing into the motor this week for pistons, headgasket and arp headstuds. Was wondering if anyone could help with setting the timing on a 2006 Saturn ION Redline with the 2.0 Supercharged I4 (LSJ)
  21. can't beat the sound of a good dual-exhaust american v8...
  22. now that's a swap i'd like to see
