  1. Finally, some more progress!

The Moog upper ball joints came today. Got them installed and torqued down. Greased all the zerks with Schaeffer's 238 Ultra Supreme. Front suspension is finally done...again!

Ran into a problem with the new washer fluid pump. The new rubber washer is thicker than the stock one and the filter nut can't thread on. I just ordered a new filter nut and will be going to the hardware store for a thinner rubber washer soon.

  2. The cars are too expensive. Grant it, I have a project that is still on jackstands for years, but why spend that much money on a camaro when you can get a good running car, ls turbo, built for under 15k at most. I could be dead wrong, but go after the niche marcket to build excitement. No features, crank windows, a/c, v8 manual or automatic, etc for under 20-25k.

I've been saying for years, I think a budget minded ~$25k entry level V8 Camaro would sell comparably well. The problem is with all the factors against it, it probably wouldn't be profitable enough in today's environment. I don't think GM would ever price it that low and not sure they would even be able to now. The new for 2020 LT1 trim is a more budget minded entry level V8 they have coming out under the SS, but it still only knocks off ~$3k from the price.

  3. The fact that the Camaro has had to endure embarassing refreshes in the face of a Chrysler product that is 12+ years old, and a Ford product that outsells it globally by a 2x-3x multiple, tells you something.

The fact that Camaro's great Alpha platform and strong powertrain offerings can't help it is even more telling.

I want to like the Camaro, but where it seems Ford and FCA know what they're doing and have a finished product that sells well...Camaro needs to be better.

    2018 Sales (USA)

    1. Ford Mustang | 75,842 | -7.4%***

    2. Dodge Challenger | 66,716 | +3.0%

    3. Chevrolet Camaro | 50,963 | -25.0%

***add another 40-45k units sold around the world, where Camaro sold less than 2k.

The 6th gen Camaro is the best car of the 3 in most ways. But one of its strengths is also a weakness when it comes to sales. The car is smaller and lighter than the Mustang and Challenger, but that also makes it less practical and tougher for people to fit into. Also, people don't seem to like the high beltline and smaller windows when it comes to visibility inside the car.

I think the 19 corporate/pickup truck facelift was a HUGE mistake, it is fugly and was NOT well received. They hurried and cleaned it up for the 20, which is an improvement over the 19. I think they could have saved a TON of money and made the car look better simply making the SS look a bit more like the ZL1.

Then you add in other factors: These cars aren't affordable anymore by many of the people who actually do want them (some younger people and older working people with families that may want the car for a toy). Millenials as a whole not giving a crap about performance cars or cars in general. CUV's flooding the market. EV's coming. Certain political agendas. I guess I don't need to tell you guys here, you know.

  4. So this year has been interesting thus far.

On my birthday (April 1st) I had it on the dyno with the following added parts, 3.4 pulley (down from 3.6), CCP Jam Cam, supporting cam swap mods, and Alky meth injection kit. That day did not go as expected because my dumbass thought I'd be okay with the meth, nope, ran out of fuel. Took it home and spent a few weeks figuring out how to make a Walbro 450Lph pump fit in the Corvette tank.

Back on the dyno and it ended up at 680rwhp and 606rwtq. Unfortunately it rained that Saturday and I hit some standing water on the way home, hydro locked the engine, broke 2 connecting rods and windowed the block. That really sucked.

After weighing many options I decided that I didn't want this car any more modded then I had originally planned on and decided to buy a 60k mile used LS6 dropout from a wrecked 2001 Z06. This gave me the better 243 heads and LS6 intake, I swapped the cam and everything else over, LS9 head gaskets and ARP head studs, decided to upgrade to Kooks 1 7/8" long tubes and off-road x-pipe, and a new McCleod RST twin disk.

It hasn't been on the dyno getting retuned, just me conservatively street tuning it, but I put it on Carlyle's dyno Friday night anyway just to see, and it only made 655rwhp and 595rwtq. Looks like the belt may have been slipping a little bit up top, and like I said just street tuning.

Made a few passes a the track, 11.9 at 130.00 so as you can tell it spins a lot. Participated at Street Car Takeover Saturday in the roll racing, wasn't sure what to expect but it was fun. Made a few passes trapping 136mph.

Been a roller coaster year, but it's alive and doing pretty well. Maybe I can leave it alone for now.

Very nice! Sounds fun to me.

  5. I haven't priced this stuff specifically for his app, but I would think:

-LS3 is much cheaper than LS7, I would think even with a dry sump conversion

-LS3 will more than handle his current ~420 rwhp level and more

-LS3 is pretty boost friendly from what I hear, if he has plans for that

-LS7 will make more HP N/A than an LS3, around 600 rwhp is pretty easy N/A

-LS7 is already dry sump as NB said

-LS7 is NOT A CHEAP MOTOR

If he has money to burn, an LS7 swap would make a unique BA N/A track car motor. In my biased and humble opinion, the LS7 is really one of the all-time great engines, especially N/A. If more budget minded and/or boost in the future or doesn't need max HP N/A, LS3 all the way.

  6. The only other thing we did today on the car was replace the old headlights with LED's. These are the 2018 New Osram Chips 110W 5x7's. Fit and plugged right in. Man what a nice difference! A lot more light and these have nice cutoffs to not blind other drivers. Now off to work on the deck again.

  7. I think and hope you both will find that your love for your child will be very different than your love for each other and not detract from that. "Love" in the English language is way too broad of a word, there are just very different ways it applies and is experienced. As my mother in law has said, "you don't have a fixed amount of love, your love just grows". I've found that true even while having more than one child, you don't love your other children any less when you have more kids. My advice is just to make sure you both make your daughter feel loved and also make sure you still take some time for yourselves. The "love" part will probably be easier than the "time" part, honestly. And if you don't know what the "love languages" are, I think it's worth some time to learn about and talk to your wife about so you both are on the same page with each other.
  8. You are making a lot of progress, when do you think is will be roadworthy?

Thanks man. I'd like to say about 2 weeks, but who knows. I spent from 8 AM until 5 PM today working on our deck, which still needs a lot of work, too.

I discovered the windshield washer fluid reservoir/pump leaking last night and pulled it out early this morning (had to remove 2.5 body panels to do it). Doing my best to get it on the road and out of my garage. This had me worried, I thought it was a coolant leak for awhile, since the washer fluid and old DexCool coolant were the same orange color. Ordered a new pump.

  9. Short night tonight. Just cut and bent the trans fluid line to the radiator that I needed and put the air filter housing back on. Waiting for the spill proof funnel kit to arrive for the coolant. Will take care of that this weekend then redo the upper ball joint boots if they show up soon. Then start on the weatherstrip.

  11. Any space to run an external ATF cooler?

Plenty of space, especially with the AC condenser out now, but we didn't plan on it. We actually didn't plan on replacing the radiator though either, we just found the stocker leaking last week.

  12. The new radiator and Prothane mounts came tonight. The new radiator is a 3 row all aluminum, vs the stocker with plastic tanks. Since the new radiator is thicker, I had to trim the new mounts with a razor to fit.

We got the reservoir out, cleaned, and reinstalled. Then installed the radiator. Everything is hooked up now except for one of the trans fluid lines. I need to cut and bend a new short piece of hardline for it to attach to the radiator.
