    So the new inner window liners were to be stapled into the plastic door panel. I had a heavy duty manual stapler and tried that last weekend... fail. So this week I looked online and bought the highly rated Stanley electric staple gun... fail. So here's what we ended up doing:

     

    1. Pulling the staples apart individually from the line of staples.

    2. Holding the inner liner to the panel and drilling a hole through both, then lining up a staple and drilling a 2nd hole.

    3. Putting the staple through the drilled holes by hand.

    4. Bending the staple with needle nose pliers.

    5. Repeat over and over for each staple.

     

    FINALLY, we completed it and got the panels re-installed. So that is EVERYTHING that we set out to do on this car, plus all the things that we ran into along the way. I'll call Monday to setup an alignment.

     

    I'M OFFICIALLY CALLING THIS PROJECT COMPLETE

     

    That said, I did buy her a special B-day present for the car that I will post in a few weeks.

    Spent a few more hours on the weatherstrip today. Got some loose trim glued back down and installed some new carpet on a door panel. Got the large front (around windshield) and rear pieces installed. Removed, cleaned the tracks, and installed the new pieces at the top of the windows on the targa top.

     

    All that should be left is to adjust the windows, complete the door panel carpet and repair, install the inner window linings on the door panels, and put the doors back together.

    Spent a couple more hours on the weatherstripping today, my daughter had some social obligations but I wanted to keep making progress. Got the large front piece around the windshield off and cleaned out the track. It's time consuming work getting the tracks cleaned out. Here are some pics so you can see what we're dealing with.

    The 4 pieces we currently have installed are along the outside of the 2 door windows and the pieces that seal the doors to the body.

    Back at it yesterday and today. All that is left is the weatherstripping. We had to tear apart both doors, take off old weatherstrip and clean. Got both outer window pieces and both pieces that seal the door to the body installed so far. Going to install the rear/targa top piece tomorrow and hopefully front piece as well. We're having to fix some interior trim pieces as we go, too. Then the rest of the inner window pieces at some point. No pics bc I'm tired.
