  1. I lost two close friends when I was 19 when they were both ejected from a vehicle. I can't honestly claim they'd be here today if they had been wearing a belt, but I know how it ended when they weren't.

And? She witnessed the guy kick in a door, so I am assuming there was no confusion about who was trying to get in at her. I can't imagine he was tippy-toeing and quietly pulling on the door.

And more reading shows... "The intruder, 32-year-old Stacey Jones. Jones, was arrested in September 2011 for allegedly abducting a 17-year-old girl with a diminished mental capacity." "It happened on Wednesday when the girl was home alone. She told police a stranger rang the doorbell, then went around to the back door and kicked it in. She called her mom, Debra St. Clair, who told her to get the family gun, hide in a closet and call 911. During that time, the intruder made his way through the house. St. Clair's daughter told deputies the man came into the room where she was hiding and began to open up the closet door. That was when the 12 year old had to make a life-saving decision. "And what we understand right now, he was turning the doorknob when she fired through the door," said the Bryan County Undersheriff Ken Golden."

It doesn't say, but one possibility is they had a practiced plan in place... - Get gun - Go to predetermined room - Call 911 - Be aware enough to think where intruder is standing if he's holding door knob. Or, she got lucky. A lot of "what-ifs" here, but I would say the scariest one is what would he have done to a 12 year old if he had been allowed? Physical assault, sexual assault, abduction?

  10. You're all assuming the only weapon he or someone with him had was that sword. We're all also assuming this video wasn't fake as Hell.
  11. Thanks all. Tim, I don't know, man. I looked at the list of people that viewed her LinkdeIn site... and they're all hot blonds.?.?

  15. I do not care what two adults do to - or with - each other. I don't even care if they get the financial perks. More power to them. What bothers me is when said couples decide to have/adopt children. That is where I draw a line. I will always believe a little kid has a right to grow up with a Mother and a Father. Save the debate about how awful some traditional marriages are and how super-awesome some gay couples are. It's just not right to exclude half the equation from a kid, if it's avoidable.
  16. A good friend is looking for options. He's been programming for 13 or 14 years. Tons of experience on COBOL, CICS, SQL, DB2, JCL, Java, some Unix, some client-server stuff, maintaining a variety of third party apps running in-house, etc. He is still happily employed but can see the writing on the walls. He is East-side, but a reasonable commute is no issue. Just asking if CR has any inside leads for senior/lead level IT jobs. Thanks in advance.

    Taxes.

Suppose that every day, ten men go out for beer and the bill for all ten comes to $100. If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this… The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing The fifth would pay $1 The sixth would pay $3 The seventh would pay $7 The eighth would pay $12 The ninth would pay $18 The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59 So, that’s what they decided to do. The ten men drank in the bar every day and seemed quite happy with the arrangement, until one day, the owner threw them a curve ball. “Since you are all such good customers,” he said, “I’m going to reduce the cost of your daily beer by $20″. Drinks for the ten men would now cost just $80. The group still wanted to pay their bill the way we pay our taxes. So the first four men were unaffected. They would still drink for free. But what about the other six men ? How could they divide the $20 windfall so that everyone would get his fair share? The bar owner suggested that it would be fair to reduce each man’s bill by a higher percentage the poorer he was, to follow the principle of the tax system they had been using, and he proceeded to work out the amounts he suggested that each should now pay. And so the fifth man, like the first four, now paid nothing (100% saving). The sixth now paid $2 instead of $3 (33% saving). The seventh now paid $5 instead of $7 (28% saving). The eighth now paid $9 instead of $12 (25% saving). The ninth now paid $14 instead of $18 (22% saving). The tenth now paid $49 instead of $59 (16% saving). Each of the six was better off than before. And the first four continued to drink for free. But, once outside the bar, the men began to compare their savings. “I only got a dollar out of the $20 saving,” declared the sixth man. He pointed to the tenth man,”but he got $10!” “Yeah, that’s right,” exclaimed the fifth man. “I only saved a dollar too. It’s unfair that he got ten times more benefit than me!” “That’s true!” shouted the seventh man. “Why should he get $10 back, when I got only $2? The wealthy get all the breaks!” “Wait a minute,” yelled the first four men in unison, “we didn’t get anything at all. This new tax system exploits the poor!” The nine men surrounded the tenth and beat him up. The next night the tenth man didn’t show up for drinks so the nine sat down and had their beers without him. But when it came time to pay the bill, they discovered something important. They didn’t have enough money between all of them for even half of the bill! And that, boys and girls, journalists and government ministers, is how our tax system works. The people who already pay the highest taxes will naturally get the most benefit from a tax reduction. Tax them too much, attack them for being wealthy, and they just may not show up anymore. In fact, they might start drinking overseas, where the atmosphere is somewhat friendlier.

  19. Sorry, my limited first-hand knowledge... I have been playing with a Kimber Model 82 and I am EXTREMELY impressed with it. 300-400 shots so far. Stupid accurate and the best way I can describe it is to compare it to a well made car. A cheap car door clunks or slams shut, while a quality door quietly clicks shut. That's the feeling after shooting other guns and then picking up a Kimber. I will own more.
  20. This was amazing to read. http://www.policemag.com/channel/patrol/articles/2012/02/shots-fired-skokie-illinois-08-25-2008.aspx
  21. Yay, Cleveland. That needs to happen 100,000 more times each day to people who have grown up getting away with talking and acting that way while receiving no consequences.
