  1. Just watch for 555 being dirty and for troopers (from what I've heard) on 50. Rt. 83 is a really clean, nice road in the same area. You might want to hit that as well. If the weather is nice I'm in.
  2. I stored my Repsol in the house during the winter since I bought it. It looked great there, too. Highly recommended. Just buy a cheap fuel transfer pump from a hardware store (like you use to fill up kerosene heaters) to completely drain your fuel tank for safety. I was always worried about gas fumes getting to the hot water tank and causing a fire so I drained it each year.
  3. Great trick, I just wonder how the engines get any oil while they're up in that position...do they blow up a lot? You'd think they can't put too much more oil in them than normal or they'd be blowing engine seals out of them. Anyone know?
  4. I've got stuff all over my bike just in case, but every crash is different. The theory behind the bent bolt is it won't snap your frame mount off in a crash. Just stay away from the no-cut if you can help it. In the case of a CBR1000RR a no-cut on the left side often bends and closes off the water pump housing (smashes it) and you have to drop the engine to replace it, big bucks. If you have a dremel tool it's not hard to put the cut ones in, just take your time and you'll be fine. I drill a small hole to see right where the engine mount is and then enlarge it bit by bit with a sanding bit affixed to the dremel, sliding the slider up to the hole periodically to see where it needs enlarged more until it's even all around where it comes through. It's easier IMO with the bodywork on than off and chancing drilling the hole in the wrong spot and ruining your panel. Works like a charm, so don't be afraid to try it youself.
  5. Good on ya to make the trip. Bananas had his R1 dyno'ed when several of us had custom maps made last winter (I guess it was earlier this year now that I think about it) and he gained 20 HP right in that dip you're talking about. His bike put out about 154 HP and I'm thinking about the torque...Putty, do you remember? Joe's printer was broken then, also. Perhaps he never bothered to get it fixed or get a new one. But the ZX-10 came in first, then my 1000RR, then the R1 was like only 3 lbs of torque right behind mine, it wasn't much. It was about 4 HP lower as well, if I remember right. I can't remember exactly. They were close, with the ZX-10 a good distance ahead of ours. So I guess that means Putty should always be first! Right, Putty?...)
  6. I'll be at the benefit, that is my birthday also. Hopefully be able to ride there, weather permitting...
  7. I've got his first video and he's got cojones, for sure. It's pretty much full speed ahead the whole video.
  8. I laughed so hard I almost cried... looks like someone else might have had something to cry about!! Ouch!!!
  9. Musta been the chronic. That was some real Snoop Dogg "thashiznit..." Seriously, if you read a lot like I do it's well documented that Suzuki used birds of prey as their inspiration for the 2000 model line up of bikes. All you Gixxer fans out there should check out the book on GSX-Rs that Marc Cook wrote that was available at Suzuki dealers. It's a really well-written coffee-table book on the entire GSX-R story with tons of pictures. A must-own, and it shows you where your baby came from. It was written for the 20th anniversary of the GSX-R. Has concept drawings they were considering for different models as well. I honestly don't know what everyone's using now for inspiration. The bikes IMO look more and more recently like used toilet paper. It's like they want to go naked on them but can't totally do so. Funky. And what's with he circular logo on the tank? Copy cats of an ugly idea in the first place. Bring back a slightly freshened-up version of the bikes Schwantz, Rainey, Lawson and Doohan raced on, 500cc clean-burning 2-strokes with traction control, and that would be totally cool. They looked like race bikes and sounded better than a four-stroke ever will. Or make them look like little military jet fighters... Whoops, here we go again...! (cough)
  10. I liked the older ones better. That exhaust on the Kawi belongs on a scooter, and a small one. And the front turnsignals? Were they stapled or duct-taped on as an afterthought...("Wait! We forgot the front blinkers...!) The Honda hopefully looks better in person. To me the pictures look better than the Honda website shots, but it is still disheartening. It looks as if all their inspiration went from birds (Hayabusa, the 2000 Gixxer series that were patterned after various Falcons) and it looks like my 2005 CBR1000 was patterned after a bird as well, with its beak nose. Remember, they were working on the '05 models in '03 or so. They have went with African animals now. The Honda = Cape Water Buffalo The Kawi = A Wildebeast, I think it is, an animal with very long straight antlers. (It looks long in the face, and is always running from lions on various nature channels). And both have stubby tails so predators can't latch on and kill them. Make sense, or is it the chronic?
  11. I am in the boat of I like my bike too and I put a Scorpio alarm on it. It has a vibrating and/or audible alarm on it so I can know if someone messes with it. I have never really tried it, but it is supposed to have a 1/2 mile radius. My position is that if someone is going to throw it in a van, there's not a lot you can do. However, if I was allowed concealed carry and someone was stealing my bike, I would know it, go out there like nothing was happening (stealth mode so as to not set off any alarms) and then they would have a gat in their ear before they knew it. I have no patience for bike thieves. Would I perhaps get hurt defending my bike? Yep. But that would never deter me. I'm a Scorpio through and through and I'd stick a Bic pen, bike key, whatever in a fucker's eye with the quickness if I caught them fucking with my bike. Let them lose their periphreal (probably spelled wrong) vision for the rest of their life over fucking with someone else's property. Fair trade to me. If they didn't start it, it wouldn't have happened. Perhaps I'm a bitter old man already, but I don't believe in a pacifist lifestyle. Mess with my shit and see what happens to you. I'm not killerama but I believe in the ability and have the desire to inflict damage on people who deserve it. And if I die defending something that means something to me, we all gotta go sometime. The only way I'd let it go peacefully is if I could not get the jump on them in time or if they had an obvious gun, or so many that odds are obvious you're in a losing battle. Then you would be stupid to give up your life for a bike. But alarm it? Sure. At least it should bring attention to what was going on and someone might get a license number. It also would let you know if someone was sitting on your bike.
  12. I'm going Saturday, possibly Sunday as well. Riding for sure, and you'll be able to park a lot easier and closer on a bike. Yet another reason to ride! The Raptor will be flying also.
  13. I think we still have the record coming home from Mid-Ohio one Friday. I led the ride home and we made it from the track to 270 in 20 minutes flat. No shit. There were about 8 other guys with me, Brad Roebuck (Brad and Carla) was right behind me. It was a blast. The Gixxer was in it's usual top form that day. That was down 314 and straight south, not 71 S at all except for the last like 10 miles. Yes, those were the days before you worried about losing your job...
  14. Why didn't they just make it look more like the MotoGP bike? All these bikes are starting to look funky, not streamlined anymore...
  15. I'll be happy to lead and/or plan out another ride. We're lucky the weather is so nice... I'm moving (still will be local) the weekend of Oct 13-14 so the weekend before or after that weekend would be great, either day would be fine with me. Yes 2 groups, everyone ride at their own pace and have fun, we'll map it out so that no one gets lost and we'll all hook up throughout the ride at times and have a good time. The thread continues on...
  16. I hope they make it like the first picture. Then Honda would definately be in first place finally with it as far as all the 1000's are concerned, but it's because it would be the UGLIEST freakin' motorcycle ever made! My Gawd, it looks like a turd with paint on it!! I'm not really a fan of the other one either. The stubby rear end looks goofy...I'll keep my Repsol. It may smoke badly (fixable) but at least it looks good.
  17. I'll keep it going as well... Twincharge, your bike is simply beautiful. No one knows how long they'll live and based on the riding skills you displayed, you made the right choice. If that is your first bike, an R1LE is starting at the top. Lucky you! The banter that went on got out of hand, yes, but we saw no cops, it was a really nice ride and the bark was worse than the bite for sure. Satan, you would have fit right in. As would have Putty, Flounder, et al. We should get another one set up before it starts getting cold and we whine to ride again. Twincharge, on your suspension tweaking: If you want to see how much your front end is diving, put a black (it'll match) zip-tie around each fork leg, not too tight that it'll hardly move, nor so loose that a wheelie will make it drift too much toward the bottom of the fork) and push it up as far as it will go (to the dust seal) and it'll help you judge how much suspension travel you're using. Wheelies will make it go down towards the bottom, obviously, as it will compress more and throw off your accuracy as to how much travel you're using. You can push it up again repeatedly to see what's going on. If you want to know about fork sag, call me and I'll fill you in, or there is, I'm sure, a plethora of info on the net to assist you. You could probably Google "suspension setup" and have a field day. That's my 2 (probably) 3 cent's worth. Have a good one!
  18. You guys are gonna love those things, if you never had one before. I grew up on the dirt and if I HAD to chose, I'd have to go dirt. So much to do, jumping, wheelies, etc, but like Chrome said, easy to break something. At least the plastic is so freakin cheap to replace! A good wad doesn't break the bank... BTW, if the guy with the WR ever wants to sell it, let me know.
  19. I was told to check out all the posts about this ride yesterday at the Mexican restaurant, and that was quite an entertaining affair. You guys are a hoot! The ride went quite well, we kept the whole group together, beautiful weather and EVERYONE rode great!! Sorry, we didn't know you guys at the gas station were part of this forum group or we would certainly have stopped. I was the guy on the Orange bike. Hope your ride was great as well. Kudos to the guys who came down from Youngstown, glad you could make it and you guys are good riders. We'll have to do it again. Next ride will include Rt 83, we rode it on the way home and it was as good as Rt. 337. Smooth, less blind, no gravel. Highly recommended to everyone on the forum. It goes from Coshocton down to almost Marietta. Sorry more of us didn't get to go but after reading all the posts I understand. Perhaps next time... Anyway, great time, and thanks for coming all that could make it. And I loved the response "and my bike catches fire every 100 miles or so" in one of the posts; as the commercial says, "priceless." Just remember, if we were attacked by aliens, we'd channel all this energy and every one of us would be fighting on the same side.
  20. Count me in too...! Marietta is a good ride.
  21. Looking for one to mount on my bike. Let me know please!
  22. If the Repsol got totalled there would be a GIX 1K purchased even before the insurance check arrived in the mail!:thefinger:
  23. I bought one and it's my first "smartphone" and I really like it. Yes, it's not perfect, nothing is. But I feel it was money well spent, for me anyway. It's small and thin enough to fit in my riding jackets without a problem, I can look up weather maps, regular Google Earth maps and websites while out in the field quickly enough, and the screen is as clear as a bell. I'll buy the improved version when it comes out but for now this works well enough for me. Yea, 3G will be great but I was in the cellular industry in '98 when they said Bluetooth was coming "soon," and it took YEARS for it to finally arrive. The iPhone is really a small computer and it's great that someone brought something out that will get all the industry to step up to another level. If nothing else, this will be the breakthrough that will get the ball rolling to better and better handsets in the future that really deliver. This is the CBR900RR of the smartphone era, you watch. And I never owned anything Apple, before, not even an iPod. Gawd, now I own both an Apple product AND a Honda...what is happening to me? Have I taken crazy pills by mistake? What happened to my Gixxer and my Nextel?
  24. Last year in the camping area that is on the left when you enter the front gates the cops patrolled it so much that they were shutting down and threatening to kick people out who were revving their engines. It was locked down, for sure. Quietest Mid-Ohio I ever saw at night, last year was. :(
  25. Is is still dirty? Be careful because it often is.
