  1. I assume that you have recently bought a battery at HNW for it to be under warranty?

    Otherwise, Damn!!??

If they are replacing 5 yr. old batteries under warranty, I am taking my bikes there for service from now on.

No...it's not 5 yrs old. Sorry for the confusion. I bought this battery from them in Feb or March. :)

  2. I agree with what was stated above. One other thing... Do you have any mods done? Intergrated turn signals, speed-o-healer, lighting? I hooked up some LED windshield washer thing-a-ma-bobs up to my plate light wires... Needless to say, I had the same problem. I cut them out and threw them in the garbage and I haven't had the problem since.

No mods...it's all stock except for the rims/tires...oh...and the customized crash marks :)

I took it to Honda Northwest, aka Ohio Motorcycle, which is the place I bought it. They were experiencing the same thing i was...which was this...

2 weeks after riding, i'd attempt to start my quad. the battery would be too low to turn the motor over. after 15 mins, my trickle charger indicator light would turn green, meaning it was charged. Sure enough, the battery barely had enough to turn the engine over once.

At HNW/OM, they took it to the super secret back room to charge it. 5 mins later i hear the kid telling the older employee that their charger went green...and that the tester stated that it had no juice. Then the guy went back to the super secret back room to charge it. After 30 mins or so, he spoke to the older employee...i couldnt catch what he was saying. But he told me that I'd have to leave the battery over night so they can charge it to the warranty specification. :confused:After that, if it doesn't hold a charge, I'm guessing they'll give me a new battery.

  3. It means the alternator is good, at least on a car. On a quad, i believe its called a stator. Check for shorts to ground and shorts to the hot side of the battery. Check the ground for voltage. Remove ground to battery, but meter lead on ground wire and the other lead to a frame ground. if you have voltage, you have a short to ground(hot wire contacting frame or something).

If none present the battery may be bad. Is it new? If not, get a battery. Glass mat. It is probably the issue.

    Good luck, electrical gremlins suck.

Thanks, i'll try this...more to come.

  4. After a short period of time, my new battery has no juice to turn over the engine on my 2003 Honda 400ex. I'm unsure of the the definition of "short period of time"...maybe 1 to 2 weeks. Once I use my trickle charger to power it back up...no problems.

    I guess I have a short.

    Two things I've noticed...

    1. When charging on the trickle charger, 'red' light means that the battery is charging while the 'green' light means the battery is fully charged. While charging it this past weekend, I noticed that it finally went green...but then went red...and then went green...and continued this cycle. I figured that was proof enough that a drain/short was present. When I disconnected the ground wire and started charging again...the green/red cycle stopped and the light stayed green.

    2. After riding for quite some time and stopping for a short time to rest, it seems like my battery will be weak occasionally on restart. I'm wondering if there's a wire that's loose that cause this short/drain. (this is probably the worst case scenario).

Anyway, I have a hot/cold DC tester. Before I start taking the thing a part to see where power should not be when the ignition is set to 'off', I figured I'd throw it out to the forum. In addition to that...if i do get power in some odd place, I'm not certain that it's supposed to be that way or not.

So, does anyone have any suggestions? I like beer and I like to grill...so if you wanna come take a look at it...beer and food will be your payment :)

    Thanks in advance...

  5. so are you in zorro....or is that WAY TO early for ya

That's not too early for me...I wake daily at 6am. In fact, the earlier..the better! I might be in...getting LASIK friday...not sure what I'm going to be allowed to do 3 days later.

Nice work on the cornhole boards!!! I love the LED's...great idea! I thought I was smart when I asked Santa Claus for two shop lights on tripods...

Damn, we need to schedule a drinking/cornhole fest!

  6. Lunch at Tony Packos

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tony_Packo's_Cafe

Meet at Iron Pony at 9:00am. (map)

    Leave the Pony by 9:30am.

Take Westerville Rd North to 270 West. Get off at the 33 West exit. Continue on 33 West almost to Marysville. There, catch 31 North. Take 31 North into Kenton. In Kenton, catch 68 North. Take that 15 West just South of Findlay. This takes you to 75 North. Get off at exit 199/Miami St/65 East. Turn right onto Miami St. Turn left on Oak St. Oak St turns into Front St. Tony Packos (map) is on the corner of Front St and Consaul St just past 280.

Should take about 2.5hrs to get there from the Pony including stops. That puts us at eating lunch right around noon. From there, we can either ride 65 West out past Perrysburg, Waterville, and Grand Rapids for some very scenic riding or just head home. I have a feeling I'll be up for the scenic riding. Its a nice curvy road that follows that Maumee River.

I have some friends up there who are going to meet us at Tony Packos.

As always, there will be different groups. Some of you like to haul ass. You have your group. Some of you like to chill in the back, take it slow and just cruise. You have your group. And for those in the middle, you have your own group.

I highly recommend exchanging cell numbers at the Pony. This isn't a difficult ride by any means, but better safe than sorry.

    8. WhoDey

    9. SchmuckGirl

    10. RC51 John

    11. APCh8r

So much for the 15 minute rule. I can't believe this group is going to be riding this early...hell must have froze over in my absence. :)

  7. Take this for what it's worth...

My old neighbor used a rag soaked in kerosene on his silverado. He said it removed the wax build up and wasn't harmful to the paint.

...I'm not sure I would try it...but i saw him do in on more than one occasion and his truck looked nice.

  8. I was kinda pissed too that 104 was closed but it was still a great ride. I will have to go and find that guy in the blue truck so he can tell me how us riders will end up in a coffin, as statistic, etc, etc... And I think it was Zorro who had his rear seat fly off. I am glad someone behind you saw it go into the tall grass or it would have been long gone.

special thanks to John for keeping an eye on my flying rear seat!

  9. I noticed some of you guys said you didn't wake in time or slept past noon!? Damn, If you want to ride, you don't stay up late..:slap: Riding is more important to me than staying up late on 2feet, or in some of your cases probably, on all 4's. :D You either, love to ride, or you love to drink it up like an alcoholic. The 1st option is always the better. ;) Everyone is out having fun, while you're paying for your binging the night before. :p

I agree. Winter is for binging! However, I drank like a fish during the day yesterday and passed out early! I was slightly hung over at 7:30am, but by riding time...i was fine.

  10. Yeah, you were at the wrong place. Sorry, maybe next time.

Great ride fellas. Too bad 104 was closed. That road is pretty fun. Glad everyone made it back safe.

Zorro, I had you at the start!!! I felt like Matt Mladin coming off the line.

Rocky, Zorro, "YOU GUYS ARE GOING TO FUCKING KILL YOURSELF!!! AGGGGHHHH"

Cleaner, if by "start" you mean the first 10ft...yeah...you had me...but then what happened? :)

That guy sure was angry...I thought he was going to blow a gasket!

Thanks for organizing this ride/route...I had a great time.
