  1. Anyone in here ride through winter? I'm thinking about it this year. Ohio winters are pretty mild compared to where I grew up (New Hampshire), but can still be pretty cold. Every once in a while though, we have those 50 degree days when it would be nice to take a ride.
  2. I, for one, am totally a liberal shitbag.
  3. Yeah, the pics are of a Ducati 750SS. I still don't get it.
  4. I've seen it, but not this one, with the responders on the scene. My favorite part is the dude who hit him, standing around like a douchbag.
  5. I thought his testifying in character was appropriate, given the ridiculousness of the "thur tekkin ur jerbs!" argument. It seemed fitting. And hell, if fictional characters can testify before Congress (Elmo did), I see no reason why Colbert shouldn't.
  6. I don't get it. It looks like an ad to sell a Ducati, what's weird about it?
  7. Why'd they run the tags on it? Any change it was during a stop of some sort? I'd start driving around the town where they ran the plates, with your extra key at the ready (if you've got a set).

  9. It's probably not going to work out, back out while there's still time.
  10. 273/400. Just in case anyone couldn't tell where I lean. I'm pretty encouraged by seeing what's being said in here about Sarah Palin. Holy cow, I can't believe how some people I know actually support her, and want her to run for President in 2012. Quite frankly, I want her to run, also, but for very different reasons than my Republican friends, I'm quite certain. One last thing, I wouldn't really compare the Palin and Obama approval ratings. She's likable enough (if you can get past the cutesy language and the lack of understanding of government and policy), but most people don't want her to be President, according to every poll I've ever seen. Even most Republicans don't want her to be President. Approval ratings don't really mean anything - it doesn't say anything about electability. There's no way the Republicans would put her up against President Obama (or any Democrat with a pulse, for that matter), unless they don't really care about 2012 (which is possible - the Dems put up Mondale in 1984, Republicans put up Dole in 1996, with no real expectation of a win).
  11. I read that earlier today. Anyone else catch this? Brando rode a Triumph Thunderbird (his own, actually) in The Wild One. I've actually read that the movie increased Triumph sales.

  14. I was working at LexisNexis at the time. I had a daily routine of checking the nights email and reading up on CNN in the mornings, and saw an alert that a plane had crashed into the World Trade Center. I saw the photo, and my buddy and I made jokes about how a pilot could possibly miss a building that big (they initially suspected that it was a commuter plane). When the second plane hit, we realized what was going on. All work pretty much stopped, and we huddled, about 15 people, into one cubicle watching a 6 inch black and white television, which is where we saw the towers fall. We knew that we had coworkers in the building, but didn't know if they were there at the time (unfortunately, they were). At that point, they sent us home to be with our families. I cried on the way home, when the heaviness of the situation really hit. I spent the rest of the day glued to the news with my wife, mother-in-law and brother-in-law.
  15. I think it's a matter of age. That is, the age of the religion. Islam is a relatively young religion. Consider burning a stack of Bibles in 12th century western Europe (Islam is approximately 1200 years old). Christianity has had more time to evolve (and that evolution was probably hastened by the advancement of the western world).
  16. I should have said "families of victims" (though, you'd have a hard time convincing me that those who lost family on 9/11 weren't victims). Given the context of this discussion, this should have been not just apparent, but blatantly obvious. Does the name calling make you feel better? Therapeutic, maybe? If that's the case, I invite you to call me "jackass" and "liar" when you may find yourself in times of stress. We all know that hysterical ranting and childish name calling can serve to soothe stress and day to day pressures. Cheers!
  17. They weren't rioting in the Astrodome. They just weren't standing in line. No one was killed, no one was trampled to death - they were just hungry and wanted to provide for their family. Fucking right I'm going to defend their actions, like I said, if my kid is hungry and thirsty and has been a week without a meal, I'm not waiting at the end of a 25,000 person line, either.
  18. Historically, Muslim extremism isn't even close to pervasive as Christian extremism. We can go through history and make a body count, and I can pretty much guarantee you that Christians have killed far more in the name of God. Part of that could also just be that Islam is a relatively young religion. Those weren't necessarily Muslim extremists, though. Those were people who consider the United States, through our alliance with Israel and our presence in the Middle East, to be enemies. You don't have to be a religious extremist to celebrate an attack on your enemy. In most Muslim countries, you do not have to "sneak" a Bible in. Saudi Arabia and Afghanistan are the only two with outright bans of Christianity, and most countries, even with Islamic law, either tolerate Christianity, or have a sizeable Christian population. I'm not even sure what this is supposed to mean. Who are the "wrong people?" The brown ones with a Koran? The white ones burning the Koran? The Americans who want to erect a building?
  19. The rage from his supporters is probably the same place as the conservative rage when Dick Cheney claimed that anti-war protests would only put the lives of American troops at risk. The only real difference is that the anti-war protests actually made sense.
  20. "They" aren't threatening violence if the mosque is moved, as far as I know. The Imam has said that if he were to move it now, it would be harmful because it means that radical Islamists are controlling the discourse in America. "The Muslims" aren't out to get us. Radical extremists may be, but there are few of them, in the grand scheme of things. And radicals aren't threatening with their "religion of peace," anymore than Eric Rudolph killed people with Christianity. Crazy is crazy, religion is just an excuse.
  21. I wouldn't say that, but I think it would make clear that terrorism works - that's exactly what Terry Jones was attempting to do. He knew that burning the Koran in a public display would have put troops in harms way. That's terrorism, if you ask me. Trump was turned down, as were others who offered to purchase the property - there is already a business arrangement in place, and I can't imagine that it would be good business to break one contract to enter into another.
