  1. Holy hell... I cannot believe I made the title of this "powdercoated needed" and diddnt realize it until now. I am a jackass.
  2. Dope. Ill check him out then Udell. Elyria is closer than Sandusky.
  3. Noice... sounds fun. I want to have something along those lines one day. I would settle with a dual sport though, but i bet its no comparison.
  4. Hahah.. yeah.. The harbor frieght setup is just the powdercoat spray equipment? Cant you just use a normal oven to bake your parts if they are small enough? I pmed Mike and gave him my phone number.
  5. Do it. Build the go cart and have your fun then sell it too.
  6. Does he has an oven large enough to fit multiple people in? cos its gotta be pretty big for the pieces my dad wants done.
  7. Awesome. Thanks man. I appreciate it much. I wish i had some RC51 rims for him to powdercoat... haha...
  8. I have some small bits I want powder coated. My dad also has some things he wants done for his car. The reason why I'mo posting this is because instead of chroming he wants to get the trim for his car done in black. I think they are somewhere around 6 to 8 feet long. Does anyone know a powder coater with a oven large enough to handle that kind of item? Thanks guys.
  9. Nice, Great thread. I will keep this in mind if i ever go to a dealer.
  10. yeah i measured them all but im just not confident on my measurements. first guage drags a bit, second gauge drags and feels healthy and the third still fits but drags too much it feels like. I think i got it good. I just measured them all twice and thats it for today. Going to measure them again and when im sure i got it right then ill pull the cams and check the shims. I have been workin slowly for like 5 days so it seems pretty manageable. Definitely worth saving the 8 hours of labor at whatever ungodly rate the dealer charges. I have Sills Honda pretty close to me so i called to ask about the adjustment and after he quoted 3 (check) and 5 (adjust) i said i had my bike part and am checking the clearances, hoping they would take the bike as it sits and just check the valves and adjust them but dude "doesnt even want to touch it" because i opened it up already. seemed kind of like a prick. I bet if i put it all back together he wouldnt have a problem charging me 3-500 bucks to adjust them
  11. im positive that the cams must come out. once i got the gas tank, air box, throttle bodies, radiator and valve cover out of the way the valve clearance doesn't seem nearly as hard. I just called cleveland akron honda and they said they'll swap me shims no problem, so im not too worried about getting the right ones. Im just worried about getting all the clearances properly measured and once im sure of that then i can pull the cams and buckets out to measure the shims. Exhausts are sopposed to be from like .009 to .012 and the intakes at like .007 to .009 or something like that and my exhausts are like at .007 and the intakes are around .004. It seems easier too doing it bit by bit, I started taking the bike apart last tuesday and as long as you dont try to get it all done at once it takes a bit of the load off your mind. I just have to keep telling myself to take my time...
  12. I am getting the feeling of it a bit. The .005 wont go in but the .004 will. But I can feel if it is easier to get past the cam , or it feels the same sliding back and forth, but some it seems like there is a little too much drag on the guage. Mine have a slight bend at the end of each guage, they are not completely flat. they look sort of like this: ____/ only not such a extreme bend. My valves have buckets that the shims are under. This is definitely different than the Ninja 250 valves when i did them. This seems easy though, just check the clearances and write them down, then check them three more times just to make sure the numbers are right, then you just pull the cams, check the thickness of all the shims and do the math for the differences, then just triple check the numbers again and put all the right shims in all the correct places and button them up. Seems easier than the 250 valves in the sense that you dont have to check clearance, adjust the valve then rotate the engine and do it again. As long as you get all your numbers right you just put in the correct shims and you should be good to go. If as many of mine are off like how they are i think i just wasted money on the shim kit, im betting i am going to need more than three of some of these shims, and thats all that came in the kit. Ill have to see after i do the math. Every one i have checked so far have not even been close to what the clearances should be. On the bright side it should run beautifully when it is all done. If they were that off it should feel like a brand new bike. I just saw that on some of these shims HOT CAMS is spelled HOT CMAS. oops...
  13. Yeah that s where im at. My intakes are sopposed to be .007 to .009 and the .005 is hard to get in, like wont clear at all and the .004 seems too easy, but it still has a little drag. You should be able to get teh bend of the guage all the way past the cam lobe and through the other side right? these are the first two i am checking and they are WAY out of spec..... Im just making sure that i shouldnt buy better feelers..
  14. The feeler guages I have are from like .001 to .010 (i think). Is that what you guys use on your bikes? I am wondering if i can or should get some that are more accurate or have smaller or in between increments.
  15. Been slowly dismantling my bike and cleaning parts over the last four days. finally got the radiator off and the valve cover out of the way. Those throttle bodies do not like to come off when those boots are cold or stuck on good. now just have to measure my clearances. hope i can get the cams back on time okay, thats the only thing im nervous about.
  16. I just mic'd out a shim and mine are 7.48 for the CBR so its a good thing that the dealer had them. Good luck. I just had to go buy a 12 inch long screwdriver because I diddnt have one long enough to reach the #2 throttle body. You have to go through the frame I had one that was just a tad too short.
  17. Ive got both a stock exhaust and a muzzy system. I was thinking about putting it back to stock after I put the valve that i bent back in the head. What is it worth to ya either way?
  18. I'm glad this bullshit happened. At least now we know more about eachother and where we stand. I won't be doin any riding for at least a week and a half I'd say. Too much cleaning and maintence.
  19. Haha. Yes quite a bit of drama. I am not mad at anyone. Who doesn't have issues that they need to work on? Personally, I would never meet up with some riders who's skill level I am not aware of and expect them to ride like we were. I don't know why it seemed so fast to me, I never felt like I was over my head. I never felt like I was close to my limits or my bikes. There's nothing that I can say that I havnt already. The insurance is the way it is because I am switching companes and I knew I would have my bike taken apart for a week. No sense in upping my insurance if. Wasn't going to ride it bike. Yes I have rode about 700 some miles so far this year with my insurance under par. That's my choice and I never put myself in a position in traffic where I feel I am not seen or in danger. Riding is about risk managment. We all set our own pace and comfort zone. That day I was not in my own zone. Atleast for a begnnng of the season ride.
  20. Yeah, they may. I was hopin that I could find someone like myself that would let me use their kit, but I just ended up buying them. Find out the diameter of the shims you need or figure out if they are all the same and I'll bring that kit for you. What part of NE Ohio are you in?
  21. I jsut bought a hot cams shim kit for my CBR f4i. If they are the same size i wouldnt mind giving you what you need. After I find out what I need to do with my valves. Have you ever done a shum under bucket? This is my first time. Maybe it is a different style than my CBR. not sure.
  22. If there are rides organized out of QSL valley view you should attend. It is right off I-480. Udell is a cool dude and I'm sure he wouldn't have a problem meeting up with you and coming in together. You'll get better with your sense of direction.
  23. I do understand riding pretty well. Like I said, at the moment I do not really have any insurance above the minimums and a horrible rear tire. It just didn't seem right to me. I don't know. Maybe with more ride time my opinion will change. I rarely go out and hit twisties that hard. Something just didn't feel right to me. Specifically what happened to rub me wrong was the turn that put that car in the middle of our group. Also how you were cutting the corners on intersections. I remember the one turn (intersection) I had kid on the R6 (sorry, don't remember names) cut act across my line. I will get on it in twisty parts of a road, but I save that for when I am on the road, not when I am turning onto a new road. Maybe I was too close and if i would have been further back and that wouldn't have bugged me. I usually ride point and I stay on the inside of the lane and I expect who I am riding with to stay on the outside while turning so we don't get too close. In the end it think it was my situation with the bike as stated before, and my unease with the road and weather conditions. Also I thought that the group was too large. Maybe on a more open road, but those last few turns were so tight it was hard for everyone to stay on the same page. I saw that Jreese was holding back and everyone had differing levels of experience. So with more coordination and having things set up such as a route, meeting places, and pre-planned stops it could be better for us all. along with having two groups when there are less experienced or timid riders.
  24. Going into a blind curve for the first time is a bad way to judge the turn. To really be comfortable you need to know what the other side of the corner looks like. It could open up and youll have to roll on the throttle or it may tighten up and you have to learn to trust the bike. You'll get into a corner too hot and think you cant make it. Sure, sometimes that is the case but more than likely just push on the bar and the bike will take it tighter. It feels weird at first, but the more times you see the bike takes the bumps or the tighter than expected turns, the more confident you become with your machine. Another part of the cornering is knowing when you want the apex to be. You cant really get the right line on a corner you have no knowledge of. That is why they teach you to delay your apex. It allows you to see more of the corner before you run into trouble. Before I took the MSF class I had already read a handfull of books on riding. Some of the things they teach you in the class go against what you learn from veteran riders. MSF says dont cover the front brake, but i bet that most riders do. I should re-read them all myself but I wouldnt have a problem lending them out. Being smooth is the most important part. After you learn to be smooth than youll find the speed comes easier. At the beginning of the season i am just so excited to be riding that i mash the throttle and dont care so much about how smooth I am shifting. As time goes on you get into the groove and it makes me feel better personally when I am riding smooth. That is another reason why I like the rain and having a passenger. To me, just daily riding seems too easy. Having the extra weight or poor road conditions forces you to adapt to them. when you can be comfortable with extra weight or poor conditions then when you have the good conditions or you are alone you know that you can push it way more. The more miles you ride the more comfortable you become. The more times you have "Oh shit" moments, the more experience you gain from it. Riding a bike is about having the skill to operate the machine, having complete trust in your abilities as well as the grip of your tires. No matter how far you think you come close the edges of its performance, just know that only comes from your mind telling you that. You would be suprised to see what is possible.
