  1. well....I'm a bit behind on this. I've been busy working on and driving the car...that happens I suppose. I'll try to bring us up to speed on the ever-continuing science experiment that is having a Rx7 track car.
  2. For $50 I have an ash tray I'll sell you for the FD so people won't ask you why that hole is there. Good luck with the sale otherwise.
  3. Yeah I tow 5k lbs. they won't do that even with the hitch. But they're cool and fast for sure.
  4. Cool purchase. I just wish they could tow and I would have considered one more.
  5. He certainly had room to give did he say he just couldn't keep the car to the right and was fighting it keeping it on the tighter line? Bummer to hear your race ended that way, but still awesome you got to go.
  6. The ONLY turbo car I've seen handle track work very well are water cooled 911 Turbos. Evo, STI, 944 Turbo, anything aftermarket turbo, and sure as shit my FD all have a noticeably harder time at the track maintaining coolant and intake temps. I've been tracking a turbo rotary for 7+ years so it can be done, but it's always more work to keep it running appropriately. (big radiator, intercooler, oil coolers, ducting, water injection) If you're looking for a challenge and way to show your engineering prowess, then go turbo. To really prove it works though you'll need to do more track time than you're talking about.
  7. I know that you're looking to build something and obviously you like doing that, but you're going to want to assess what you really want to get from going to the race track. Do you want the fun of building a car and just seeing if/how it works on track? Or are you interested in learning to drive better and get some regular track time for fun? If the first, then build whatever floats your boat, keep it safe, and you can dip your toe into going to the track. Chances are you'll lose good money if/when you go to sell it, but you'll have a cool project. If the second, then buy the FC, drive the shit out of it, and enjoy.
  8. Love it. We should start a class here.
  9. That's awesome Matt. Congrats on making the runoffs and good luck. I'm unfortunately out of town until that Sunday so I'm not sure if I'll be able to make it up.
  10. So does this mean I can get a good deal on a 6 without having to re-up or change my plan? I'm still rocking an old ass 5 and it's finally on its last legs. Doesn't seem that the 7 is the savior that I was holding out for.
  11. Don't get a track habit. It doesn't take long for things to add up if you regularly go. I'd say for most driving faster cars it averages out to about $1k per event (entry, hotel if needed, gas, consumable parts). And that assumes you don't break anything.
  12. cheaper than writing off a $75k+ car. It all depends on what you're using to track with compared to the cost. For an Evo it might not make sense. For a GT3 I would any day.
  13. Bummer for sure. I've been there if you remember me writing off my old FD in the rain there last year. It sucks but after a while you'll realize the important thing was that you're not hurt (I'm assuming since you didn't mention it). Hopefully you can get it sorted. I'm still selling parts off of the old car. Haha.
  14. Anything from Home Depot is going to fail. I've never once heard of someone having long term success with those. If it's brand new concrete you have less prep to do but you'll still need some. To use Rust Bullet you'd still need to power wash it and completely let it dry for like 3 days. I'd recommend you not do any flakes/clear. Just do the base grey for like 3 coats and it'll be strong as shit. The only reason I did the flakes was to help cover up flaws in the older floor.
  15. Did rust bullet on mine. Had some pieces come up where my wife's tires are. After talking with the vendor and trying some tests we think the concrete there was just smoothed out from years of cars being parked there. I'm going to scuff and reapply when I get time this fall. If you have any doubts on the porosity of your concrete then sand and be done with it. On the side where my car is I use jacks and jack stands directly on it without issue.
  16. I kinda thought the $5k budget was a joke?? Or was that just the buy-in range? Cause tires, brakes, and good safety equipment will eat up your budget if not. The Nissans posted in this thread are good options. Miata is a great learning tool, reliable, and cheap but not different like you're looking for. If you're also willing to do so,etching often done then look at an e36 BMW. plenty of parts and support, great driving cars, way better rear suspension design than the e30, and it'll at least seem like it's got some motor to it (at least in m3 form if you stretch the budget).
  17. Looks awesome Clay. Glad to see it come together
  18. Smokey

    Thanks Bob!

The wheels play much better in person. Car looks great
  19. I've been keeping an old Corbeau seat that I thought I'd eventually have my own frame made for....but it's pretty low on the project list and something else always takes priority.
  20. Just to clarify they're brown right? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. Pics of the play seat? Which model was it? Any interest in separating from the G27?
  22. Glad to hear they worked out. I'm hoping to get time to take apart the doors before my next track event, but have to tackle the mechanical stuff first.
  23. 3 episodes in. They do such a great job with being period correct that it draws you in further.
  24. Worst harness install/use EVAR! Seriously all I could think about no matter how great the other achievements.
