They've also got a Caldwell bipod I'm interested in. And might have to pick up the maintenance mat while I'm at it for the range bag...

Got the VFR and the new Buell out and let them idle in the driveway till they got good and warmed up. Went down the road and back, about 10 minutes each. Very tempting to take off, but I had family coming over and still had to put on a pot of venison chili...

Many thanks, Tim! Hooked up with Darwin Thompson and got a refurbed Rainsoft system installed in about an hour and a half. Darwin is a straight up good guy with tons of experience and lots of good information. Great all around experience. Very happy with the new system.

Disclaimer - I have no experience with in-lines, but I've been hunting with a muzzleloader since I built mine from a kit from TC in '78. Personally, I wouldn't buy a gun this close to season and hunt with it. I'd buy it during the summer and spend time with it on the range. Warm weather is better for the job since you're not hurrying to get in out of the cold or short-cutting to get ready for season. Not saying you're not capable or anything else! Just my two cents. I've used my muzzle loader for ground hogs to keep me sharp and extend my season. Talk about fun! The good advice in posts in this thread condensed: Clean your barrel between shots for zero. Clean at least every third shot during practice Mark your ramrod. Very important Carry wet patches in a ziplock Leave your gun in the garage or trunk where it can acclimate to the cold before you load. Condensation is your enemy. Practice loading a follow up shot. Other tips: Occasionally check your load with your ramrod if you're walking around a bunch while hunting, especially if you carry barrel down. You should never have a problem with this, but shit happens. And if you decide on a more "trad" gun later and shoot round balls, this is a little more important. Make sure your load hasn't moved in the barrel (Marked Ramrod, right?) Carry speedloaders or premeasured powder in 35mm film canisters. Before you load your nice clean gun for hunting, snap two to three caps to clear any residual oil from the breach and nipple. Don't just zero at one distance, know your trajectory at a couple distances. My Hawkin is dead on at 100 yards and 6 inches high at 50... Big difference. Hope this helps.

Ahh... Cincy, right? Here's Hamilton County: http://www.hamiltoncountyhealth.org/en/permits_licensing_inspections/water_quality/private_water_systems.html

There's four basic softener/treatment companies that you can look into. Hague, Kinetico, Aqua Systems, and Culligan. Last time I did this, Culligan was the most expensive... Our system is an old Hague and it's on it's last legs. Our hardness is 28 and the iron is up there also at 4.5. This means that we not only get a softener system but an Iron filter component is recommended. All together, quotes for our house to replace the Hague are $3000 and up. Yeah, Merry freakin Christmas to me... On a side note, a softener system has little to do with the "drinkability" of your water. Whether or not you drink it will be based on whether or not you like the taste of well water and whether or not your water is safe to drink. As for the later, here's a handy link you may want to spend some time on: http://www.odh.ohio.gov/odhprograms/eh/water/PrivateWaterSystems/quality.aspx Here's another good one: http://epa.ohio.gov/Portals/0/general%20pdfs/HowWellDoYouKnowYourWaterWell.pdf and last but not least, if you're in Franklin County: http://www.myfcph.org/wqw.php Good luck. Reading and comprehending this shit will give you a migraine for sure...

Def agree with the above. No substitute for defensive riding. However, I notice how quickly a rider can disappear in the traffic in front of me with a dark helmet. Yet I seem to notice a white helmet much easier. Not that I buy into the whole "white helmets, flo-green riding jackets and loud pipes save lives" bullshit...

I'm not riding, but there's a BMW R1200 in the lot here at Riverside today... +1 to him.
