Uh, wanna bet? The Duc 1198S isn't anything ultra special that cannot be had in an R1 GSXR1000, etc...

GAWD DAYUM! I heart bikes as much as anyone, but I could listen to that Ferrari motor all day long. FOOOOOK!!

You'll pay almost $160-$240 just in labor guaranteed at a shop. Then, add parts... Shop labor is $80/hr typically. Reuben is cheaper than that and while he does a bang up job on race bikes, understand the amount of detail and workmanship involved in working on race machines. Now take that attention and detail and put it into your street bike. Just because he is a "race/track guy" doesn't mean he doesn't do regular street stuff on sportbikes. In fact, he has a slew of street guys that won't take their bikes anywhere else...
-
Another note to box them up and send them to Reuben. What you get charged at a shop, he can do it all and probably cheaper as his labor rate is cheap and he does a discount for Ohio Rider members... Plus, he'll do it right... Shop guys know ho to - don't get me wrong, but they slap it together and I highly doubt they have the proper know how nor the proper way to do it correctly. If you only knew how many guys who have had fork seals done and within a short period, they are leaking again...

Cleveland Cyclewerks: $3195 for 16hp and 12ft*lbs of cafe racer
Moto-Brian replied to Disclaimer's topic in Pics and Vids
Listen, I think it is cool he wants to get something out there similar to what a cafe racer is, but think about this... Through the years, there have been PLENTY of Chinese machines that incorporate some cool looking features like his upside down forks, "wavey" rotors as he calls them, etc. I'll use pitbikes as an example. There was a cool company that actually went to China and watched over and QCd their product from China. The idea was they offered a CRF50 with upside down forks, bigger front wheel, better hydro brakes front and rear, piggy back rear shock and tall seat and bars with 125cc motor and FMF styled exhaust. Thing was baller and it ran rather well. BUT... Big but, here... the thing fell apart all the time. While the company was always good about standing behind the product (I actually got a free replacement frame and a buddy got a new motor), it was still an issue of things breaking and parts just not as dependable and not near the tolerances of the Japanese counter parts... The thing is that the Chinese are making a lot of things for the Japanese like Kaw's and Suzuki's little ATVs, etc. These are top end Chinese companies and they are still not the quality as seen by the Japanese, but being in the smaller units, they are less to being abused and are not needing the tech as seen on the bigger units... Point is simple. It's going to be VERY tough to convince people to buy a Chinese no name machine without a name brand engine for only $800 (at retail) than a Japanese bike. Not to mention when other smaller bikes are heading this way (Shameless plug for the KTM 125s and 250s...) for maybe $1k more at most. Plus, add the Honda and the association of quality that is related to that brand. It's going to be tough and with the surge of cafe racer bikes being seen lately, it is still not a market that is huge here in the US. Plus, one of the cool things about cafe racers is the fact that you build it and ride it. An accomplishment that is tangible... Not bought... -
What's the story on the forks and rear shock? Is the rear a TTX and what kit is in the front forks? GREAT price considering the amount you could gt for the parts if you pulled most off and sold them. I might know someone...

Cool and mean looking. Kind of like a Warrior on roids a bit. Likey!

Bike is sold!!

You'd shit your pants at the idea that I have two mountain bikes with one worth over $3500 and the other over $2800... Bikes cost money. You take this one and compare to a 460 Wal Mart special with single piece cranks and thin wheels and my son would destroy it at Ray's within 30 minutes of getting there. It costs to get stuff... $400 motorcycle? It isn't like you are getting a 2010 R6 for that amount...
-
Not to mention the amount of effort to avoid heating up the rear tire, bearings, brake caliper, etc... I do not like the idea and see that he is really just patenting an idea that nobody else can expand on. I think the idea is cool, but at the early stages and from his drawings, not the best idea.

I will do it. Well, sorta... I wake up around 4am for the internet deals that are almost the exact same thing as if I got dressed and waited in line for the same damn goods. This way, I get to order it up and go back to bed. Within a week, I usually get everything and am satisfied. People that wait in line for essentially average products baffles me. Like the $98 19" TV from Walmart. There are better deals than that low end TV. Sure, you may pay $20 plus more for a better, bigger TV, but you can order it now, get it before Xmas and be done with it and not have to be standing in line with a sweaty fat guy breathing on the back of your neck...

question for dirt bike bike folks or those with engine smarts
Moto-Brian replied to cOoTeR's topic in Tech and Tips
I read it as it was not wanting to start by kicking... If it is hard as in amount of pressure needed to kick it, yes - issue... My suggestion and what I was going to do if I was able to get these from the guy was a complete carb tear down and clean. Would highly suggest that for you to start. Can't hurt - they've been sitting forever from the sounds. The 50 probably needs a new set of rings and the carb cleaned also... -
Gotta get this gone so, can deliver it also! Do it for the kids!

Trojan is not being able to be hammered with any scan program. Won't let me even start one... Takes weeks due to buddy that does it for me. It's the price you pay to get it done from him, I guess... But, the deal is that this is year two with the computer and the second time I am sending i out and the other one with the Google and Yahoo search virus. Can't be found with any of the suggestions nor the three virus detection programs I have loaded... I'm over it.

Is the entry level GHz good enough for speed?
-
Ok, Mac guys... What do I need to look for on these iMacs? I see different GHz and obviously different memory, etc... Best choice for mild graphics stuff and basic business (excel, word, etc)? I was looking at 21.5", but for $300 and the same processors, memory, etc I can get 27" As for the Macbook Pro, I really am not sure on a small 13.3" screen... But, the price jumps big to the 15.4"...

I agree, but if rendered useless after a year due to spyware, trojans, viruses, etc., I have to have the damn thing fixed and pay a guy to do it, probably have to upgrade sooner rather than later and overall, I end up spending the same... Buddy has had Macs and the only reason he buys a new one every once and again is to step up to newer technology. But, he doesn't a whole lot due to he uses them for home based stuff... No issues... I'm not going to argue price. At this stage, I don't care of the price. It has to work, work well and do the same thing... According to this grid above, they both do the same thing and the same results. May cost more, but to prevent me from pulling it out of the wall due to freezing up, etc., and throwing it into the windshield of my neighbor's car, it's worth the extra cash...

suspension seminar in cincy this weekend. 11/20/10
Moto-Brian replied to gixxie750's topic in Tech and Tips
Really, you can get a lot of info from OTT's how to series of videos. I'm not bashing what is being done down there, but it is going to be very basic and general. Not bad stuff to learn, but you can get a lot from OTT if you miss out... Here is probably one of the best vids I have seen and a GREAT tool to watch and learn so you can understand tire wear and how suspension settings can fix or hurt it... http://www.onthethrottle.com/howto/dave-moss-unsprung-tire-wear/ They also have a good series as of late, also... Part 1: Great look at what the factory guys do to their suspension and a GREAT example of why if you race or track day, you need to get your suspension serviced. Listen VERY closely to what is said at the 6:22 mark. http://www.onthethrottle.com/races/graves-motorsports-suspension-technician-chris-lessing/ Part 2: http://www.onthethrottle.com/races/part-2-with-chris-lessing-graves-motorsports-suspension-technician/ -
These are AWESOME additions to ANY person who is doing track and racing for that matter... Unless you are top 5, you really aren't going to notice the difference in 20mm vs the 25mm kits. However, these are going to make a WORLD of difference in the way your bike handles. In fact, these suspension components are the biggest thing you can do in terms of mod for your bike. PERIOD. Exhaust, motor, carbon fiber, electronics, etc... All are nothing compared to good suspension. Bikes are getting put to bed soon for winter and is a GREAT time to unbolt and ship over your forks and get a shiney new rear (BAD ASS) shock and a fresh set of improved forks. Slap those puppies on in Spring and you'll swear you were riding a Katana all year prior. Reuben is one of the absolute best out there. He just got back from an Ohlins school and is doing a race based school with the one and only Thermosman coming up. If you want a guy that is going to have the ABSOLUTE most current ideas, knowledge on the newest setups, etc., Reuben is going to be that guy... Plus, it is my goal to get his skinny ass to the tracks more to talk shop and be out with the peeps...

Well, it is a big issue, but I think a lot has to do with a lot of internet use and these BS attachments that come with anything you download or install... Maybe i am wrong and it is really based on my 11 year old playing games online... I go to maybe 6 sites a days multiple times... Nothing else... Whatever it is that is the cause, I have friends with the same scenerios with PCs. I also have friends with the same "environement" with Macs and have zero issues...
-
Well, we need a laptop and it got me thinking. I have a laptop for work and one that I used before, but we need a new one... So, it got me thinking it was time to consider an Apple... Then, both PCs that I had built and rebuilt are at the same stage they were a year ago. Trojans, viruses, etc. It's a pain in the ass and if anyone knows me well enough, they know I am impatient. I'm tired of every year having to take the thing, drop it off to a guy and be w/o for weeks... I also used Macs when I was doing graphic design stuff (Hence the outdated Freehand) and really seemed to not hav much issue other than memory space. Did have some crash issues when running a lot of heavy programs at once, but I cannot think that will be the case at home. Essentially, I will do light design stuff for myself and friends, but nothing industrial, if you will... Pretty much just at home and using on a daily level. I do a lot of Excel, Word, PDF stuff, etc. It'll primarily be for my work and my wife's work. That being said, I don't want to be sitting there in a year wishing I had more memory and more speed... I was looking at the entry level 21.5" iMac and the 13" entry level Mac Book Pro. I guess what I was asking in this thread was: 1) Are these good for heavy office based stuff. 2) Are these entry level versions sound enough and going to be quick enough, have enough memory, etc... I mean, I have a 32GB iPhone and it is maxed... I don't want what I have with the iPhone here with the iMac... Know what I mean? 3) Yes, it sounds like I am sold on Mac, but if someone has a credible response to make me think otherwise, I am open to listening. I'm not interested in the PC vs Mac solely because it is what you're used to and you are afraid of change. I get enough of that when people talk iPhone... Anyways, clear as mud, right?

I am pretty much going to convert to Mac. I am going to keep one PC, but will be getting a MacBook Pro and a iMac for the desk stuff.... Now, the big issue is what should I get? I am really just thinking entry level and trying them out and running with them for a while. Grabbing some graphics programs as I am currently running Freehand, Illustrator, Photoshop, etc... Anyways, want to hear reasons not to or reasons that I should. Pretty much no deals to be had out there on these things. Any suggestions to add or to avoid?
