  1. Riiiiight... He got the job well after the issues. Trust me. Oh, wait... Gotta be quiet or I'll get blasted by the owner again... The only word I can think of is "karma"...
  2. Uh, OEM will do perfectly fine with full synthetic oils... OEM is designed and engineered for that said motor. K&N and others are merely copies and are tradionally not as good. The best aftermarket filters are Vesrah as they work directly with the OEMs and actually build a lot of their OEM parts, etc... But don't go thinking that OEM filters are bad if you use full or semi synthetic oils...
  3. We use WD40 at the track and wipe off. Simple, works with o,d,x,etc ring chains...
  4. You have a bike lift because you don't own a sportbike... Otherwise, you cannot lift a bike with a stand that is used for cruisers and MX machines. When you say "daily use", you understand that they are only using it at home as they obviously aren't carrying them on their shoulders while riding so they can use them at the burger joint, right? Basically, the storage idea makes perfect sense as a bike is MUCH wider on the side stand than a rear stand. But, to each their own. I use a rear stand on all the bikes - even the street ones I work on or the street ones I have ridden because of the fact that I can get to things much easier. Chain, tires, cleaning the lowers, etc. All easier with a rear stand. Oh, and my bike doesn't have a side stand so... Guess I'm a HUGE squid...
  5. Who? Travis? Not in a million years. He can do it in his sleep. When we saw him trying to do the 360 backflip for X Games, we were so amazed at what he was doing. It was almost confusing as to what was going on. Once he got enough sessions in before the video leaked, he still wasn't sure and I think he's going to show everyone that he can set the bar even now...
  6. I understand, but realize that he's a pro athlete capable of things we mere mortals cannot even touch. That being said, Ben Spies can ride a person two up in a manner that is well within his limits, but well beyond the limits of someone else. However, if he'd crash riding WELL within his limits, it could be a situation that causes the death of someone. Does it make it better that he did it within his level of ability? Or, because it was well beyond our limits, it was crazy?
  7. I'll give credit and say we've seen plenty of guys on Busas and ZX14s that do a decent job at the track. Of course, same ability level on say a GSXR750 or even a 1000 and they get toasted... The point is that it can be done - hell, I've seen worse do well at the track... BUT, if riding something that is more design specific, it makes life a lot easier. I appreciate the guys that can do it. It says a lot about them. Riding something more suitable is much easier and these guys aren't going to take the easy route. Kudos to them...

  9. Paul - I just now checked this thread due to the helmets and the trailer deal... If you still want it, it's available...
  10. Oh, he's seen it and actually helped with it a bit. It was done almost a year ago... As for the Corvette comment, you (Not you, Nick - the other guy) need to watch 199 Lives. You'll get a better understanding of what occurred and how Travis felt... He's by FAR one of the best personalities in the business.
  11. Ok, so the scooter will not start. I believe it is the petcock and the way it works is off vacuum and the race fuel over the years has appeared to dry it out. I kick and kick and kick and kick... Has spark and there's no hole in the piston from what I can see. I was thinking of tearing the motor out and doing a little winter project on it, but I don't have the time or energy. SOOOOOOOO.... I will GIVE the scooter to whomever buys the trailer for $1500 along with the helmet of their choice, Pingle removable wheel chocks, etc. I will take package #2 and add a street jacket from the SHIFT 2010 inventory I have. They are all sized LG men and size MD women... Reduces the package from $1700 to $1600... I edited the above deal, but understand the scooter doesn't run. Will be together and ready to roll, but will not fire... Oh, battery is dead too!!!
  12. Fusion- If you are for sure sometime today, shoot me a call (I PMd my number to you) and I can hold it and tell this guy it is sold...
  13. Got a guy from Marion coming today, I guess... I'll keep ya posted.
  14. Bump for updated price and since it is Halloween, I thought I'd add some candy to sweeten the deal. Read the top of the ad to find out what I am willing to ad. If the helmets don't fit you, understand that you can easily get the asking price in my helmet F/S ad on Ebay. I just cannot sell them there as it is a conflict with my shops. You can, though... I also added the Pingle removable wheel chocks. Coming in the new one, so you can have these... Need this thing gone in a couple of weeks.
  15. They rent, as well. Which, is actually the best way to do it... Drive up the car and ride their stuff...
  16. Got the rig ready for indoors at Ray's Mountain Bike Park. For anyone that doesn't know, it is the COOLEST and SICKEST park out there... Here's a linky: http://www.raysmtb.com/ If you have a Dirt Jumper styled bike or BMX bike, you are set. If you also have a Mountain Bike, they work really well there, too. They have a LOOOOONG indoor XC style path. We used to take our mountain bikes up, but I bought a DJ just for this... If anyone is interested in going up, we try and do Wednesdays during the week when available and obviously the weekends...
  17. Listed on CL late last night. Have 10 emails asking to look at it and at least 5 asking for stupid trades... Anyways, if any OR person is interested, $1400 and delivered within reasonable distance. I know it is only $100 off, but I think it is really fair considering the stuff inside, etc...
  18. The thing is that you can actually hurt yourself more than help yourself in certain conditions. Meaning, if you have a bike w/o studded tires and ride on a frozen pond, you aren't really learning anything. Whereas, if you have a bike WITH studded tires, you will learn more as the bike is adapted to the conditions. What I am saying in our sport is if you are tooling around at a really slow pace and working more at staying upright, you are learning to survive - not anything that will apply to when the conditions are better. If you are sliding around at points and just simply trying to stay upright, those inputs are far from what you'd use in normal riding. However, if at say Barber you race no matter what the conditions, riding in the rain will help in both wet and dry conditions. Rain riding allows you to learn things that the bike does for sure, but actually teaches the art of being smooth vs. just plain old surviving... Probably making this sound confusing... I re-read it and feel it isn't typed as I am thinking. Oh, and Yota - yes. You need to ride Barber... I was going to go, but it is always booked at the end of the year and the first event. I am thinking about a mid-season trip or even a possible race there next year. Plan now - you can ride share if you'd like...
  19. Yes, I was directing the Buell Days with Ken and Nick. The point they were making is that you need to focus on the basics, really. The fact remains however that when at a pace that is quicker, you need to be more precise in what you do. The inputs you put into the bike are more important the faster you go. Ability will get you through ANY condition. The conditions will certainly make things tougher, but adapting and riding to suit is again ability. Think riding in the rain vs. the dry... Takes a bit more ability to ride it fast when wet, right? You can still ride in the rain at 4 minutes a lap, but to do it at half that pace takes a higher level of ability... The fact remains that even if the tires did cool, inputs are important. He rolled off or trailed too much brake. It really is that simple... Less roll off or less trail (Getting more done up and down vs. full lean, etc.) would have resulted in not falling down. He loaded the front. It's basic Physics. As for me running AMA, yes... Wasn't any good.
  20. Grattan. Temps were 45-50 degrees. Notice the winter gloves and hoody sweat shirt. Michelin 2CTs... Photo by Jig Moore of Heavy Penny Photography Grattan. Too cold to remember, but early morning session. Frost on windscreen, frost on the grass. No warmers. Pilot Power One Commercials... Photo by Jig Moore of Heavy Penny Photography We literally had next to no crashes due to cold weather. There were some that crashed due to tucking the front and one from a rear end breaking loose and high siding. Thing is simple. Throttle control and less trail breaking will lead to better results. I've told our customers this before... Cold weather on cold tires should be approached like rain or wet weather riding. Braking done early, proper throttle application at mid corner and on exit. Smooth and consistant will win out every time. As the temps get better, the aggression can increase. Ability tends to dictate at what level that aggression suits the rider in question...
  21. Not being a critic. Just saying that rider error caused the crash. Loading the front and while the tire could have been cold, in three to four laps, it shouldn't be to a point to come out from under you. You load the front with throttle or brake. Basic stuff... He runs warmers... Tires should have been up to temp by that stage. Hell, even so, if they weren't, he still caused the issue. Blaming it on cold tires is clouding the fact that the rider caused it.
  22. Or, there are actually guys that ARE quarterbacks and have made enough mistakes to know...
  23. Cold tires don't crash riders. sure, it has some weight at times when pushing, but it is amazing at what that right wrist controls... We were up at Grattan the weekend before with temps so cold, there was frost on the grass in the morning... The temps never got above 50 the first day and was windy. Times were not too far off typical track day pace... Point is that rider error is what caused the crash. tough pill to swallow at times and tough to honestly say, but even with people criticising the riding style, it isn't what caused it. Mike rides well and his riding style is fine. He loaded the front by either throttle or trailing too much brake. I vote trailing too much as that corner is notorious for it...
  24. He trailed too much brake or was slightly off throttle. That turn gets them every time... Cold had nothing to do with it.
