I'd say that you've been to Putnam more than enough times to have the status of being ready for racing there in terms of laps run...
-
This is by far the ABSOLUTE best comment I have ever heard and needs to be in the minds of EVERY track day rider and new racer. I cannot stress enough that it has nothing to do with lap times and more to do with you as a rider. This coming from a student/new racer is awesome to hear. Being humble and realistic will only get you where you want to be quicker and result in a much more effective conclusion.

Q2s should be about 30-32 depending on track and temps front and 27-29 rear depending on the same factors. For track use...

Compression Damping screw stuck all the way out
Moto-Brian replied to JStump's topic in Tech and Tips
Uh... I said call and if it needs to be fixed, UPS rates for forks is pretty cheap. By the sounds of it, they probably need serviced pretty bad and worth the time to remove and ship and install fresh and ready. If not, you can play internet diagnostics and try and fix it or save the time and effort and go where a few people have recommended... Good luck! -
Compression Damping screw stuck all the way out
Moto-Brian replied to JStump's topic in Tech and Tips
What you have done is essentially damaged the compression adjustment screw. It is part of a component that is in the lower fork portion of your suspension. You DO NOT need a new fork tube. However, it sounds like it needs replaced for whatever reason and to do that, it will need to be removed and replaced. From the sounds of it, you are not 100% sure of what you are doing and thus, it is suggested to take it to someone that is to save you not only money in the long run, but to get it working the way it was designed and should. Reuben is a sponsor on here and offers a discount to OR members. However, not sure what the damage is or if he can even repair it, but give him a shout and have the bike with you to answer any questions he may have. His number is 317-850-3884 -
Gonna try. Never been there so, it would be cool to ride there. You looked awesome this weekend, man. Smooth and you were riding well!

Not sure on the rolling eyes smilie??

Trust me, man... I'm old!! I feel better on a bike than ever before, but I am slower!

That's the next step after track days. Guys are always wanting to try racing, but are somewhat worried about the racing vs track days. The first time is probably the scariest and once it is over and you get it under your belt, the learning curve is so much faster than track days, you won't believe it! I remember my first race weekend. I was an aggressive and decent street rider and thought racing was going to be easy. I was blown away and even told my dad that I probably should quit and not do it. He told me he'd do whatever I wanted, but thought I should at least try it. That was 1994...

I will echo Craig's comments on how you looked. You were smooth and predictable and there wasn't a single time in practice or the races that you made ANY erratic or weird changes or moves. That means a ton more than a fast lap in my mind. Lap times are silly sometimes. The idea is to become a better rider and the speed will follow. You and Craig were awesome as I can fully trust to be as close to you in mid turn as anyone I have ever been around and feel secure you won't overreact or make some strange change to cause an issue. I liked what I saw in terms of body position and how you were running through the turns. Head was good and the speed was consistent. Great job to both you and Craig. Next time, I'll slap your leg or something, but in the past, I did that once and the guy ran off the track as he wasn't expecting it and he thought he clipped me! I don't usually do that anymore...

That's right folks, if you want some great competition and some decent sized grids, Moto Series is in the back yard and has those things you desire. I ran my second round and had a blast! The people, the racing and even vendors are all out in force with these guys! I was always a guy that was a bit skeptical of the series and even had some reservations to send anyone that wanted WERA type racing to them. But, after good friends Wrobel and Neyra convinced me to run there, I have had a GREAT time and had some awesome racing. There are a lot of ex-WERA guys there, a lot of locals and a great mix of talent that can offer even the most competitive guy an option. They also have a cool endurance program where you can run 20 minutes, 40 minutes or 3 hours with a team. The 20 and 40 are solo and are awesome. BIG turn out for the 20s. The best part really is the fact it is all one day! 1-1/2 hours of open practice and they will separate the groups at the end. They start races before lunch, take a break and then start up again an hour after. They run the sprints and roll right into the 3 hour. Trust me when I say that you better be in shape!! I ran two sprints and the 20 minute race and I was BEAT!! Damn young pups. Anyways, I know a lot of you on here travel stupid distances for racing and are missing a great series that has grown and got grids that are larger than what you see regionally. Also, the talent that comes there is enough to give anyone some solid racing. There are a ton of LW racers and a good number of 600/1000 guys for sure. I think our 600/100 grid was to the tune of something like 25 guys or something? Haven't seen 20 plus in those races for a LOOOOOONG time. The event is well run, easy sign up and tech and the program is well oiled and runs really well. Low red flag count, low crash count and while Nelson isn't Mid-Ohio, it really isn't as bad as I even have said before. The idea is the fun, the competition and the fact that it is here in Ohio! The people that run it are awesome and the racers are really good. We have AMA caliber guys here and we even see guys choosing this series over others! The grids were really big and that is a weekend that ran in tandem with the Cycle Jam... On another note, I know a lot of you do track days and MAYBE have wanted to race or at least try it out. The series is LOW PRESSURE! It does have some really awesome racers coming out as of late and the competition is really good, but it is also (And, I have always said this) a GREAT place to get your feet wet. The racers are fast, but they all want the same thing - to have fun and make it to work Monday! No cut throat BS racing where there is a large pile of cash out there and people are making desperate moves to win a race. It is a great chance to at least try things out and above all, it is 3 hours from downtown Columbus. The best thing to do is get licensed and try it out. I think you'll be amazed and you will want more. Save gas, support a sponsor and get some serious competition to make you a better racer all in one! Off the podium, but I had a great weekend and had a great time.

The thing is if a guy is talking brake fade on higher end systems, they could very easily be braking harder, running faster and turning quicker times and causing extreme stress to their systems. Also, it could be that the guy doesn't maintain the system like they should. All are variables and certainly not saying anyone is slower or faster, but that example is not the reason to stick with a certain pad... The fact is that EBC is widely used because they are inexpensive. Doesn't make them the best and I definitely wouldn't take the word of one guy...
-
I've personally met and talked with Gary and was a HUGE fan. Note my sig I have used for a while now... The guy was amazing and was a BLAST to sit and listen to stories. The best part of it all is that he was as humble a guy I had ever met... This really sucks and leaves a hole in my heart at the moment... God Speed Gary.
-
You also have to remember that if someone has a pad and rides with them and feels they are the best, they most likely haven't used others in extreme conditions. If you want really good answers, call a performance shop that works with higher performance bikes and see what they recommend. You just had Riders suggest Vesrah basically. I highly doubt that EBCs are used in that project R1 or BMW...
-
Supers are old school. The newest stuff is even better... EBC is junk. It's cheap and easy to get and therefore, people buy them and seem to be OK with them. If you want life, buy OEM. If you want performance, buy something like the high end Vesrah, SBS, Carbon Loraine, etc. DP is a cheap brand also and similar to that of entry level any brand. They would be at the level of what I consider EBC to be at. The EBC comment is not true as most Japanese stuff is more likely Vesrah or similar...

Been that way forever. I've had a few scooters and each had to be endorsed, insured and tagged as a motorcycle. In fact, when I worked at a motorcycle shop in the late 90s, we rented scooters for guys to use for the motorcycle tests... Anyways, it has to be tagged and is considered a motorcycle...

Jeff- Are the fork internals stock or Ohlins also?
-
This sucks... I must say it is one of the cleanest and unique painted bikes I have seen out on the track. WELL worth $5k as I know he had some really good bits on there. Good luck with the sale and will call a buddy that has shown interest.

Thanks, man!

I might do the Mini 20. Depends on tires...

Not yet. We are waiting on the appraisal and the title stuff. Should know more in a week or so...

Ok, possibly going to need a 0-40 hp compact tractor. Not looking for the brand to buy of anything as all that will do is cause a feud. I am looking for something someone may have a line on or can help in buying one. Essentially, any deals out there? Looking at the Kubota 20 series, JD 20 series, older JDs and Kubotas also. May be tempted with another few names out there, but unless stupid cheap on new, I am looking used. Anyone got a line on anything, I want the following: -Loader on front -4WD -60" plus mid deck mower possible extras: -Rear blade -Snow blower Have been looking at a used Kubota 2630 to give an idea of what I am looking for...

You're the guy that I want to shove a stick into their spokes as they pass buy sounding like they are running 200 mph when only doing 30... That's horrible for the bike and a complete waste of funds. Packing is something that is needed and helpful to your machine. But, as you mentioned - to each their own, but remember, ignorance isn't bliss...
-
Or do what most giuys don't - repack your cannisters and you'll be amazed at how much quieter they are. 2 Bros stuff is junk and is poorly packed to start with.
