  1. Ask this in the WERA forum vintage section. The 90's 600's are "vintage 7 middleweights." From a mph:dollar perspective, they are the cheapest option for sure. A first generation SV650 would be the next step up in price, and step down in top speed. But I believe lap times would be pretty comparable. The SV chassis and brakes are certainly a decade better. Suspension (stock) is about equal, which is why the SV is cheap to buy. You should find fully set up examples of either for $1500-$2500. Especially if you are willing to drive a little to pick one up, and not picky on title status.
  2. I wish I could take that high and mighty approach, but I attempt to wheelie the XR pretty much every time i'm on it... Either in the pits on the way to the grid, or on the cool-down lap after the race, I'm going to try to pull the front wheel up. I do make an attempt to only try such tomfoolery when my mistake is unlikely to affect others.
  3. It wouldn't be a bad cheap toy, but for the $2k asking price, there would be better track options. (assuming that's the only thing you want to use it for) My F2 had aftermarket suspension, woodcraft rearsets, race bodywork, stainless brake lines, and some kind of aftermarket exhaust. Probably more stuff I'm forgetting as well. I paid $1400 for it with a clean and clear title. The 90's 600's (particularly Hondas and Kawasakis) are really pretty amazing values if you're looking to get into track riding.
  4. Are you trying to tell me that it's not a good idea to take away your ability to brake and steer while there are other motorists around? Next you're going to tell me that a headlight shining up in the air is less visible than one aimed down the road...
  5. man is my suit beat up and ugly by comparison... And I never noticed "Alpinestars" was plural until just now.
  6. I think this sums up a large part of the problem that goes un-addressed quite often: The US (and Canada) is really large to have a single pro series. I think AMA Pro's East & West division for the SuperSport class is really the largest any series can be at this point. The travel costs just become too much for teams to run the full series right now. DMG screwing things up with the 6 round 2014 schedule actually helped demonstrate that this year. There are fewer truly professional teams on the grid, but the grids themselves are about the same number of bikes. Jordan Motorsports and EBR moving to WSBK were moves made at least in part based on travel costs and the like. I have seen this posted several times on the WERA board, but never here to the best of my recollection: The AMA running at Laguna Seca and New Jersey Motorsports Park is just a huge ordeal for teams to make both rounds... I don't think it would be unreasonable for there to be 3-4 U.S. regions, and then have a double-header (or even a triple-header) "Grand National" style finale somewhere in the Southern/Central portion of the U.S. (probably Barber or COTA) at the end of the season.
  7. I'll have a bunch of them when I can think more, but these couple jump out at me: - while I was roofing (friend's dad owned the company. I just helped out every so often, because it paid more than my regular summer gig), these idiots named Cedric and Ronulous were at journeyman status. They were paid members of the crew, but admittedly there to be taught. Knew more about roofing than me though. Anyway, we're on a job site, hardhat zone, all that jazz. We're carrying rolls of felt paper, edge guard, etc. up the ladder, and because it's a ROLL of felt, you have to lay down a bundle of shingles to keep it from rolling right off the roof. Well Cedric and Ron decided they could safely set the rolls perpendicular to the edge of the roof, and that would be okay. It wasn't. an 80 lbs. roll of felt paper rolled off the side of the roof, and fell 40 or 50 feet to the ground. Had anyone been under it, they would have been badly hurt. That is just the kind of thing that cannot happen. Ever. It was not their first act of stupidity, and they were fired on the spot. This was their second week of work. - my other job had "mandatory" overtime on Saturday mornings. It was an assembly line outfitting empty Ford Econoline vans with tool boxes and bulkheads, like your cable guy drives. So I show up at 7:00 on Saturday, but half our line, plus the forklift driver aren't there. Then one of them walks in and says, "hey, the other guys aren't going to make it today. We were all riding together, and got pulled over. 3 of the guys have warrants for nonpayment of child support, and one got a DUI." The guy telling the story also had a warrant, but the cops didn't have enough people to respond to arrest them all!
  8. If they can rationalize the profit loss with marketing/PR gains, then sure.
  9. So the Internet says the EX250 is good for 37.4 horsepower. The dyno says 24 :-) http://www.kawasakininja300.com/forum/8-ninja-300-general-discussion/120-dyno-shootout-honda-cbr250r-vs-ninja-250-vs-ninja-300-a.html
  10. I also thought the stock EX250 also put out a tad more than 25. Was thinking closer to 35. It's a liquid cooled 250 twin that spins to 14k RPM... Liquid cooling is good.
  11. I copied the info Brian just posted and added it to my original post :-) Super pumped for this event already.
  12. Forgot to post here, but there is a clean water fill available at PIRC. It's over by the big track, near the pit entrance at the bottom of the hill. Others have filled their tanks there in the past. Not sure if that's "allowed" or not, but it's been standard procedure from what other RV owners are telling me. I've seen it used to spray the mud off crashed bikes, but forgot about it...
  13. can one purchase a package to view it online? I would pay a reasonable amount of money to watch this series, but there's no way I'm paying $100/month for cable or satellite TV to do so. Frankly, I think online subscription is the way of the future for virtually all "television" networks, but that's somewhat beside the point... I'll be looking into MavTV over lunch now.
  14. Like I said, I've never ridden either, so I have no idea what the comparison would be. Actually, the XR100 is pretty much the only dirt bike I've ever ridden. what's the power difference? are we talking the difference between a ninja 250 and a ninja 363, or more like 650 versus 636?
  15. I think that would be a really fun comparison to do some time. I have never ridden a 400 or a 450, and my seat time on a 250 is extremely limited (like, tried it in a parking lot without a helmet on). I would speculate that a 450 would accelerate much better at low RPM, and thus, as you suggest, give the singles a big edge on a kart track. But the 250 should kill it on the top-end. What I can't even begin to speculate is how a dirt chassis feels in high-speed corners. The EX250 is hardly a race chassis, but it's at least set up for street use. Then the 2008 EX250 had to go and change everything with the 17" wheels. The rubber options really opened up, and made the prior generation pretty uncompetitive in a racing environment
  16. Summit Point Jefferson Circuit is even better still. Although I believe they extended the track there... Some orgs will not allow supermotos to ride on any track where they deem closing speeds to be a major issue. I cannot speak for N2, but I know NESBA only allowed Motards at Jefferson (in this area of the country).
  17. Nice. I don't have a belly pan or steering damper on the pig, but I drilled most things to race spec in the process of cleaning and inspecting.
  18. What are their safety wire rules for "I" group?
  19. You should have seen Will's bike last year. Full race spec 650 from what I was told. He ran the whole track in 2nd gear and couldn't keep the front wheel down. Hopefully Stump will show up to PIRC. That dude will put on a show on a 450. I believe he is technically a pro flat tracker. Not sure if it's his brother or his son who has raced AMA pro at mid-Ohio, but JB and I were sitting near their fan club in the keyhole last year.
  20. So this "tv" deal... Does anyone actually get the station it's airing on?
  21. This sounds suspicious to me, if only for the fact that it would require that Glock, a large firearms company, does not have its own in-house counsel. I find that hard to believe. It's possible they farmed out trademark work to an outside firm, but still...
  22. when is that 450 making an appearance at CRP?
