Do they have to? People show up on a bike, it's bike night...

My mistake - the 2015 schedule. I read this thread weeks ago and either disregarded or failed to note the 2015. http://forums.13x.com/showthread.php?t=315068&highlight=Putnam If it was an April Fool's joke, Sean played along. **edit - I just caught his comment about the 2015 Indy GP... Nevermind. over a month later, and I'm still falling for it

hahaha - good luck. It's really not very hard once you realize how you need to do it, but I made a lot of errors getting to that point. the biggest thing is to make sure your "inside" spokes are under the "outside" spokes before you start actually inserting the spokes into the nipples. Then there are some tricky issues with the shorter spokes, because the spacing on the hub is so close to even that you can't tell which way they are meant to angle. ...You'll see what I mean!

Did they or are they transitioning to new ownership? I always suspect that's the case when someone suddenly sinks money into a track. WERA racing there is also a sign that something has changed. I know Sean had some trust issues with the current (previous?) owner's son. If I understand that conflict correctly, the son told Sean one thing, then later the father disagreed and claimed his son would not (or should not) have said that. Son then claimed he never told Sean WERA was allowed to ___________. Sean confronted them both with an email from the son saying exactly what they were claiming would not have been and was not said... Their refusal to admit their mistake has kept WERA from racing Putnam for years, but it's on the 2014 schedule.

I just laced up my new hoop with (some) new spokes and a different hub. let me know if you want some tips. It's a bit of a puzzle, and doing things in the proper order would have saved me a TON of time and frustration.

I have been busy at work this morning, but I'll check at lunch for the one I had. The generic Amazon gear indicator should work fine though. Some work on engine RPM and speed, and others just "count" how many up and down shifts you make. shouldn't be too expensive though.
-
on the contrary, ridden well, Nelson is "crazy fast." Average speed is over 100 mph if you do it right. The straight just isn't that straight.

I made a small wooden stand that has (knock on wood) worked pretty well. it fits inside JB's crate nicely for transport too. I probably over-built it, but I figure that's better than the alternative. take a look in a couple of weeks.

I don't consider that a problem. Bike money is just as green as car money, and we dont' abuse the track surface as much. The tracks should be happy to have us. Having the track itself be booked solid is also good. I means they are going to be around for a long time, and be able to afford the maintenance and improvements. (read South track!)

I don't think it's BS. There was an agreement-in-principle to sell the track a few years ago. It was indeed abandoned due to the tire walls. I seem to recall $1 per tire to dispose of them properly. They estimated over 1,000,000 tires. That sounds stupid high to me, but I bet there are a lot more of them hiding that any of us realize. Then there's the repave cost. I would guess they would be looking at $200k just to resurface the parts of the track where we're leaned over, and some of the major problem areas on the straights. A full re-pave would likely be at least double that. But repaving means higher speeds, and the need for more run-off in some areas. The track simply doesn't have the land in some places, and there are swamps in some of the other areas. I hate to say it, but I think the track is just going to continue to deteriorate. Someone might be willing to make the repairs, but not pay the asking price on top of that...

I would not have thought of it that way, but you're right. lack of an M endorsement gives the officer "specific articulable facts" to believe that a crime is being committed. The fact that he was mistaken is irrelevant. The theory is that punishing their behavior achieves no purpose when they have a good-faith belief they're investigating an actual crime.
-
Try searching for LED shift lights. The only annoyance I had with my gear indicator was it would "hunt" while the clutch was pulled in. I believe it "knows" what gear you're in by reading the rpm and speed. So when you pull the clutch, it reads 0 rpm during that time, and just displays a flashing 0

Perhaps one of the site sponsors could enlighten us on the differences in shape between the various scorpion models. My EXO400 was great. I actually wore it on Saturday. But it's too small, too old, and sweat-stained. I'd love to replace it with a newer scorpion model, but obviously it needs to fit my (long, narrow) head.

That sounds pretty unacceptable and not very safe... I don't expect Todd to be responsible for the condition of the track, but I do hope he vocalizes some frustration with management. I wonder what it would cost to have 8 PIRC rounds and 2 Nelson rounds...

Like I said twice already, I can argue it either way. It is totally reasonable for police to randomly run plates. It allows then to track stolen cars, catch people with active warrants, and even impound people with enough parking tickets. Stopping a rider because the registered owner of the vehicle doesn't have an endorsement is trickier. I do think it's reasonable to assume that the owner is likely to be the "driver." That said, there are a lot of scenarios where that wont be the case. But a traffic stop is not a "search." Until it becomes unreasonably long, I don't think it's a seizure either.
-
Maybe the rumors are finally starting to become true. Nelson Ledges might be a few short years away from "that bad."
-
Cops routinely do a lot of things that aren't necessarily legal. Police don't need probable cause to run plates, just to initiate a stop. That's what I meant when I said I could argue it either way. Is knowing the vehicle owner doesn't have an endorsement probable cause for a stop? That's what I could argue either way.
-
I don't like the sound of this... What were the lap times like?
-
Which side do you want to pay me to argue on this? I can see both sides

How much do those run though? -
I may be describing it poorly. If you're aware of the different offsets, that was what I was referring to. Are they breaking uniformly at the hub, or randomly in different places on the spoke?
-
Something is not right. I know a lot of 200+ guys who don't break the XR spokes. I crashed mine hard and only broke 3. 13 is insane. JB has a spoke torque wrench. My guess is yours were either too loose, or your hub is off-center, causing mild hop. That's basically like slamming the wheel into the ground every rotation. I don't want to ask dumb questions, but are you certain you put the spokes on the proper side of the hub? The offset on the hub side is different for right versus left.

I had one on my 2003, but I don't recall what brand... There is a guy who makes LED shift lights and gear indicators for cheap though.
