  1. LEDs are just a dream for me right now. Novice group. What's a reasonable time-frame to expect to move into Intermediate? I know some people probably do it in 2 weekends, but is 4 weekends a realistic goal? $170 bought a whole weekend at Grattan last year
  2. anyone have updates on the expected date of completion? I saw satellite images of the track and it was barely started. but I don't know how old the satellite pic was!
  3. ^ yeah, don't be like me and write in two months of 2007 dates wondering why everything is on Monday and Tuesday instead of Saturday and Sunday (leap year) before you notice that you have to scroll down. Any word on why there's no Grattan dates?? Last year's schedule says it was $95/day, which is awesome. I'll be at EVERY grattan event if that price holds.
  4. does anyone know what a day at Grattan cost through STT last year? they don't have pricing up until the 1st of the year, but I know grattan was super cheap through NESBA last season. And currently, NESBA has NO grattan dates posted for 2008! all that fresh asphalt going to waste!
  5. Keep in mind that if you fight the ticket and are found guilty anyway, you have to pay court costs on top of the fine and insurance increase. Yes, they are wrong on the night-riding thing. Good luck if you fight the speeding ticket, but I would plead 'no contest' to the speeding part and not guilty for whatever the night riding portion costs you. be nice and be remorseful. Judges like it when you feel bad. they hate it when you're defensive and indignant. Like you said, you're effed on the speeding part, so all you can do is apologize for that and hope for the best.
  6. Just like anything else, the internet (let alone specific sites) is what you make of it. You can use Myspace to hook up with teenage girls with daddy issues, or you can use it as a place to have free hosting for family photos. I'm 'friends' with UD Cleveland Alumni. That yielded at least 2 job interviews when I was looking. Although the pictures i have posted may also have been the reason I didn't GET one of those jobs! hahaha It's the person that makes it creepy or not creepy.
  7. Did you buy the 1000 near cleveland?? I swear I rode by that exact bike (and the house in the background) a few months back. Probably in Independence(?)
  8. I was wondering what the guy in the video actually DID as well... All I can think is that he either locked the rear tire (cold and new), or he spun the rear w/ too much throttle, or a dumped clutch. But where did he think he was going w/ a wrist full of throttle??? There was a car in front of him.
  9. since my bike will only pull ~120 (and that's w/ a 150 lbs japanese rider), is it fair to request that I not blow $70 on a tank cam?
  10. i am 24 and have a myspace account that a created in college. I check it maybe once a month. It is a good way to self-promote. Might be the best thing to ever happen to bands no one has heard of. I suppose you could do the same if you were looking for racing sponsorship etc. (post videos of yourself riding, post pics of you w/ trophies, post your sponsor's logos, etc.) Like I said, I check mine about once a month, and mostly to see how fast my cousin's kid is growing up and find out what my college roommates are doing. it all depends on how you use it. I don't 'friend' anyone who i don't actually know, and you have to know my last name to request to be my friend. http://www.myspace.com/akacrad my page sucks. except the pictures of me wasted. those are at least funny.
  11. are the full-length videos worth buying? i've only seen the youtube previews.
  12. how long does a bike have to sit before the carbs need to be cleaned? as winter approaches, I'm wondering if this is something i'll have to do every spring... I do run the bike at least once a month in the winter, but what's a "long" time? 3 weeks, 3 months?
  13. "Walter? you brought a pomeranian bowling?" "I didn't bring it bowling, Dude. I didn't rent it shoes. I didn't buy it a beer. It's not taking your fucking turn."
  14. campus is what it is: an eclectic mix of desperate homeless people, wannabe thugs, and drunk students. I didn't go to OSU, but i visited people a lot (still do actually) I lost both side-view mirrors. One to vandalism and one to a hit and run (my car was parked both times) I would try parking some place different for a week or two. See of anyone else's car is broken into in the area. after that, just stop fixing the window... sell the malibu and buy an escort to use til you graduate.
  15. just got back from spending 6 days in Tampa... Florida really is "where Ohio goes to die." my girlfriend's grandmother literally put on her turn signal 2 miles before her exit while we were in the car with her. I offered to drive the rest of the visit. I think anyone over 60 should have to re-take a modified driving test yearly. Nothing major. Just some basic real-world driving, and a short highway stint. they have "daytime only" restrictions. Maybe there should be a different colored plate and "no highway" restrictions as well.
  16. it's like insurance companies forgot that though... Compared to other bikes in the same performance range, it's dirt cheap to insure. Hundreds less a year.
  17. of the 3 i suggested, the ZZR is the fastest (top speed, and acceleration), then the FZR, then the Kat (GSX-F) They're all between 140 and 150. To put that in perspective, the GSX-R is only a few tenths of a mph faster than the zzr... (according to bikez.com)
  18. All modern bikes are safe; there are only unsafe riders and unsafe riding conditions. Just know what you're getting into as far as insurance costs on a 600. if you MUST get a 600, consider the ZZR600 or FZR600. Both are great bikes, and MUCH cheaper than their FI counterparts. and PLENTY fast. I won't knock the Katana 600 either; i've just read they're heavier and that makes them more prone to drops (for newbs and experienced riders alike)
  19. my girlfriend works for a non-profit org on the West side, and one of the teachers who was shot is a very active volunteer there. She's only met him in passing, but said he seems like a genuinely nice person. I guess that's not important to pissed off 14 yr olds... I really don't understand why ALL schools don't have metal detectors installed... Yeah, it's an investment, as is security to man the doors, but how can they not rationalize that cost?
  20. thanks for all the helpful replies. I have found AGV leathers for as low as $291 for a one-piece suit. I severely underestimated the cost of boots, but that's offset by the overestimation on leathers, so I'm still on-budget. The new helmet is just somethign I need to pick up anyway. one of mine is just getting old, and the other one is kind of small now that I have hair instead of taking the 1/4 inch buzzers to my head every 2 weeks someone said not to get into racing w/o enough money. I'm interviewing for a second job after work today lol. Nothing major, but enough to cover tires and track time, I think.
  21. I suppose 2 bikes would fit in a flair side, but your anchor points wouldn't be as far apart. In a standard bed, you'd have the tie-down anchored at an angle away from the bike. In a flair-side, it'd be more vertical. whether or not that's a problem, I don't know.
  22. What time would it be on Sunday? ironically enough, I'm going to be in Columbus this weekend. new as I am to this forum, it'd be great to meet some of you guys before the snow hits.
  23. ^ i've never tried that, but it sounds like it would work. Anyone ever put one bike in forward and the other in backward? I'm asking because I do have a Ranger, and the bed is quite a bit smaller. But then again, so is my bike. I'd be looking to move two 500s or a 500 and a 250. P.S., anyone with a hitch can rent a Uhaul motorcycle trailer for $15/day. That only holds one bike. their 5x8 trailer can only hold 580 lbs (or should) so for $15, you can put ONE in the bed and one on the trailer if 2 in the bed makes you particularly nervous...
  24. thanks for the info. I'm already on top of it. Any chance you can rent leathers? the cheapest set i've found is almost $500. $500 for leathers, at least $60 for boots, $40 for gloves, a new helmet, and new tires, plus the cost of the novice class, all of the sudden I'm over $1,000 My bike only cost me $1,500!
  25. ^ only if they have a 'you break it, you buy it' rule and something signed by you
