  1. Q: "why did you come to Ducati Island?" A: "to see if we could find you some tighter pants. You're making a valiant effort, but I think we can completely cut off all circulation to your legs."
  2. initially, i thought "i've only bought a couple things there," but that's nowhere near right.. mental math says at least $450, plus all the stuff i'm forgetting... iron pony is kind of cool, and at the same time, kind of lame. I asked one of the sales guys if htey had "knee pucks" and he didn't know what I was talking about. he understood "knee sliders," but they don't stock them - he'd have to order them. if i wanted to wait a week, I'd just buy it online for less $... Their tire prices aren't awful though.
  3. you can get an AVGsport "forza" 1-piece for $290 new if you search for them online. That's about the cheapest new suit i've seen. otherwise, the WERA board is your friend. There are a lot of racers who started off a lot thinner than they are today
  4. if you're doing more than 2-4 trackdays, they're worth buying. I got mine on eBay for $122 shipped. Older, but never down. Fieldsheer - not some no-name brand either. A layer in-between is a good idea even if you own them. Under-armor, or an under-suit make leathers a lot more comfortable, not to mention easier to get on and off. I think mine are 44's. I have another fieldsheer 2-piece set that's a 42. got it free on the WERA board, so the deals are out there.
  5. I think it's $75 with NESBA (and a $500 deposit). Aren't they at Putnam this weekend? if so, I think you want to talk to Marshall Skloss with Turn One Racing. Unless i'm mistaken, he'd be the one renting/bringing suits. marshall@turnoneracing.com (not turn1racing.com)
  6. same. actually, i think i have indians tickets for that afternoon... I'm not sure i can stomach that much disappointment sober.
  7. that was nowhere near "real life mario kart..." get 8 of your friends together on a kart track, and start throwing banana peals and turtle shells at each other while you race - then you can START to make 'mario kart' claims.
  8. 6 months old? are you unable to send it back to compaq, or have it repaired under warranty?
  9. in '86, the Ninja 900 (the first "ninja" in the US) was the fastest production bike available. top speed was 155mph! it was really a 908cc engine, that they later halved to make the "LTD 454," which was bored out to 498, and used in the Ninja 500 ...so that picture does have half a ninja 500 engine in it. sort of. The original post makes me think i should invest in riding pants. makes me feel a hell of a lot better about my jacket and gloves in the heat. where's QuickZX9R??
  10. oh - another thought is to talk to friends in other states. Ohio has pretty strict rules about titles, proof of ownership, etc. Other states don't. some of the less strict states will just run the VIN, and if it's not stolen, hasn't been registered in X days, and you have the keys, they'll title it in your name - or rather, in your out-of-state friend's name. he can then sell it to you for $1, and all you pay is the VIN inspection fee, and you have to pay for an Ohio title. but it requires a friend you trust, or they'll just keep the bike; and you have to do the research as to which state(s) are the most relaxed.
  11. do you know anyone who is a notary? I have had friends 'fudge' some stuff on titles for me. Well, not really 'fudge' it, just notarize the signature after the fact. What does the title currently say for "purchase price?" I've never put more than $1,000. the fee for transferring after 30 days is only something like $25. not much at all. the taxes will depend 100% on the listed purchase price. my track bike isn't titled in my name. I HOLD the original Wisconsin title, but it's 3 or 4 owners removed from what the title says. In order to get it into my name, I'd have to trace back the chain of owners, and they'd ALL have to register the bike in their name, pay the taxes, and transfer it to teh next guy... the fact is, whoever's name is currently on the title owns the bike. Your buddy doesn't. if the cops run the VIN, 'my' bike comes back to some dealership in WI... but it's not been reported stolen, and the dealership is long out of business. even so, i can never register it for street use. your alternative here is to buy the bike w/o a valid title, and then pick up a frame that DOES have a valid title, and switch everything over. the frame shouldn't set you back more than $400 or so. If that's less than the taxes, go for it.
  12. so this is a healthcare debate now? or is the thread still trying to suggest that Americans allow Obama to get away with things they would have crucified Bush for? (and no, i'm not even remotely suggested Bush was Jesus - it's just a figure of speech). Frankly, I think Obama does get away with a lot of things: 1) because the majority of Americans WANT so badly for him to be right, regardless of whether he or his policies are. 2) because a lot of people (media included) are timid about criticizing a black president, lest they be accused of racism. 3) because George W. had the reputation (deserved or undeserved is irrelevant) that ANYONE would be better than him. Frankly, I'm not an Obama fan, nor am I a die-hard Republican. I can get on board with being called a "conservative" in fiscal discussions, but my views align most completely with the Libertarian party. Love Obama, or hate him - voting for him doesn't mean that you automatically have to agree with, defend, or count yourself responsible for every single policy he signs or (mis)step he takes! The fact remains, he IS our President for at least three more years. Go ahead and voice all the opinions you want, but choose yoru battles. if you're going to stifle National Healthcare reform, let's make sure that's the most pressing issue, and debate with a purpose. It's going to pass eventually. Change focus from outright objection to damage control. Realism goes a long way in politics. Idealism just breeds frustration. Bob Barr 2012!
  13. ^ actually, that's a decent reason to have a facebook account for your legal name, even if you hate facebook. one of my (former) coworkers had an account that her friends set up as a joke. it listed her as a 'swinger' and had some interesting interest (KKK chapters, etc.). I don't think it had any real consequences, but the potential is certainly there. Just create an account, and make sure any notifications go to your legitimate email address. maybe log in every few months so it stays active, but empty.
  14. the weather's clear all week. I should never have taken my track bike out of the truck! I'll be riding the street bike to work/school all week anyway. has anyone else registered? I'm psyched to get back. My goal for saturday was getting into the :08's, and I ended up in the high :06's instead, taking 3 seconds off my previous best. I've had worse surprises for sure! anyone is free to laugh at my times all they want. I'm just happy to be showing some tangible improvement

+1 I cite Mat Mladin as evidence. the FAST guys are the assholes
  16. eh, i wouldn't see him regretting it unless he really likes the way an inline 4 revs. my F2 with -1/+1 gearing would pull my buddy's SV at the track, but not by much at all. part of that was the fact that JB is probably 160lbs, and i'm more like 180, but I think the SV has a serious weight advantage on the F2/F3 as well. Makes it "feel" like it handles and accelerates better. I'd call an SV/Gladius an upgrade.
  17. not exactly... THERE you go! unjust as it sounds, you want his public defender to do a good job. A shitty (or biased) public defender means that the prosecution can lay back and take it easy, potentially making the appeals process easier, which not only costs us even MORE money, but also increases the likelihood that the douche will be out of jail sooner, or have a legitimate reason to claim he didn't receive the fair representation promised in his Miranda rights. blah blah blah... the point is, a publicly appointed attorney's job is to make sure the prosecution does ITS job fully and completely. You think they'd sleep at night otherwise? The real crime (ok, in retrospect, this sounds retarded after a cop and k9 are shot, but you get my point) is that prosecutors don't make very much money even when they do their job well... they start around $39k (with triple that in loans from law school). the main allure is government benefits and retirement; well, that, and they should have NO problem sleeping at night. i hope i remember to follow this case, and the condition of the victims. full and speedy recovery to both. poor pooch... makes me feel less bad about feeding my dog all those french fries last night.
  18. so anyone tempting the weather and going tonight? I have class until 7:15, and didn't ride to work based on the forecast.
  19. as much as I hate drilling bolts on the bike, we could definitely do it. I should have three 1/16(?) bits in the tool box. the bigger problem would be hoping the drill battery lasts long enough. I'm sure someone will have a generator though. or, if you don't mind draining the oil, using a bolt-jig (not sure what else to call it) makes things faster and easier. I'll have that with me as well.
  20. Ray (BeaveRun photographer, for those who haven't been there) likes to give me shit for it too. scroll all the way down - http://www.pbase.com/ray645/image/112140550/original and cut me some slack on the pics. that was my first ride of the season and still on my old bike. I also had strict instructions from my (now) wife not to crash 20 days before our wedding... the Steelers Yamaha might be a good photo-op I'm more of a "'boo' as you walk by" Browns fan, not a "throw beers at you and make your small children cry" Browns fan. Besides, what real 'debate' could I offer this season?
  21. those are all 'recommendations' unless you're riding Advanced. even so, I don't think those are 'high' or unreasonable. If that's all that's stopping you, I'm happy to lend stands/tools/help safety wiring, flushing coolant, or whatever. Just PM me, so I know to bring distilled water, or whatever's appropriate.
  22. i thought we kissed and made up? I hadn't heard anything about BeaveRun being in receivership, but as I said, unless the track marshal was giving us misinformation, every weekend for the rest of the season has some event booked. I would expect the courts to allow and encourage those to go on as planned before suggesting a sale. with any luck, the group that was looking to buy Nelson Ledges could get BeaveRun for a steal, and finish that addition they've been 'planning' for so long.
  23. all their defensive driving stuff with law enforcement. That's what leaves skid-marks in the middle of the front straight, etc. I don't know exactly what groups it was, but Summit Point has a similar arrangement now. edit - here. from the BeaveRun photo site: and I don't know exactly what kind of FBI training, etc. they were doing on site, but the track marshal was telling us they were paying a ton of money, but were a bitch to work with, because they didn't want him cutting the grass anywhere while they were trying to instruct, etc.
  24. I saw that a few people did the fasttrax date at Beave for the same price a while back. Apex2Apex.net if you want to sign up for this event. considering I normally pay $170/day to ride Beave, I couldn't really pass this up. never ridden with apex2apex before, but I'm going to check them out, and their racing school is FREE on 9/4, when you purchase the trackday. why not? I'll be riding the new (to me) Cleveland Browns Honda in "I" group. any takers?
