For testing purposes, I rigged a short post for the antenna and zip tied it to my directv dish post. I don't want to remove the dish until i'm 100% certain i'm going this route. as of now, the antenna is about 15' in the air, about level with the peak of my roof line. I am getting approximately 40 channels. I get all the local channels, plus some Hispanic, hindu or something, and a bunch of other crap I'll never watch. Thursday night football last night was crystal clear. I think the picture was better than DirecTV. Once I decide to remove the dish, I'll get a taller post and mount it to the dish post, which will put the antenna approximately 10' higher than it is now, for a total of about 25' in the air. Between this and kodi on amazon fire stick, and Netflix, I should be all set... EXCEPT FOR BTN, which is really starting to piss me off. I NEED TO GET BTN!!

How are you going to mount it ? on your roof or in the attic?
On the roof in place of the DirecTV dish.

yes, Omni-Directional is what you want
Actually, after a lot more reading last night, multi-directional and Omni-directional not the same thing. Either way, I ended up ordering this:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EPP5ZSS/ref=od_aui_detailpages00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I won't be able to install it until this weekend, but I'll update once it's done.

Antennaweb.org will help you decide what style antenna you need and what direction to point it.
Entered my addy and here are the results:
A Small Multidirectional Antenna is recommended to receive this station. Look for the CTA-certified Yellow mark on the antenna's box.
So, I need an Omni-directional then, correct?

I've been doing research on the hd antennas. I didn't realize there were so many options. Directional, Omni-directional, powered, etc. So, what do you use, recommend, any suggestions on installation, etc?
I am in Canal, but not in a housing development. I am surrounded by farm land. Ranch style house. A few tall trees, but not a forest. I was thinking about a long range Omni-directional, but read that those can pick up a lot of interference, which may result in a not so good picture.
Since I currently have DirecTV, which I am working on cancelling, I was thinking I could use that post to mount the HD antenna on. Would that work?
Do all of these antennas have to be plugged into power? How does that work? I don't have an outlet outside for one. I can't really find any info on the power piece.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

How much will you be selling your current mower for? Seriously interested, if the price is right.

What is the best add on for BTN?
-
I'm figuring it out slowly. I'm watching ESPN through it right now. I need to see how many college games I can watch today with this. Any good college football add ons I should get?

So I got fusion but now I have no clue what I'm supposed to do.
-
https://www.tvaddons.ag/config-wizard-kodi/ Here you go.
I don't have "fusion" in my list from these instructions. What now?
-
Where do I even begin on configuring the fire stick w/ KODI?
-
you won't regret it.... make sure to install Excodus
Can you point me to instructions on doing this?
-
dude, seriously, get a couple fire sticks, load KODI on them and call it a day.
I have a fire stick already. I need to look into doing this.

Does that box connect directly to a coax cable outlet on the wall or to your modem/router? My bedroom 1080 TV is connected straight to a coax and the best resolution it gets is 480 without a cable box.
It has Ethernet and wifi. I tried both. Picture quality was the same.
-
Probably bought it from best buy for $90 lol.. brb ordering a 10-pack off amazon for six bucks
Nope. Came with the box.

I sent him an email telling him that 720 and 1080 are both most definitely HD. Here is his response:
And again I'll disagree
Sd 480
HD 720
Blueray 1080
Ultra HD 1080
4K
8k

Of course 1080 is HD. You either misheard them or they're a potato. Most TV shows on normal cable are broadcasted in 720p though, and some are 1080p.
That was a direct copy/paste from an email he sent me; not misheard. I'm returning this effing thing. They are idiots.

So, in my quest to cut the cord, I purchased a box to watch tv, movies, etc. What I'm finding is that all of the tv shows are 720 at best, and it's grainy as shit. The hdmi input on my tv is set to 1080, the box is set to 1080, gold plated hdmi cable, 30Mbps internet speed tested through the box. It's horrid trying to watch tv shows through this damn thing.
So, I emailed their support asking them if I'm doing something wrong or streaming the wrong thing, etc. Here's his response....
"I don't think there are many tv shows is 1080. But 1080 is not HD. 720 is HD. "
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought 1080 is HD. Discuss, please.

The anode rod is not what makes your water smell. What are you going to do when your water has Oder, but there is no anode rod?
Everything I have read says the same thing:
The most common cause of smelly water is anaerobic bacteria that exist in some water and react with the magnesium and aluminum sacrificial anodes that come with most water heaters to produce hydrogen sulfide gas, making the classic rotten egg odor. The problem is most common in well systems, either private or municipal.
-
Finally decided to break down and get this one.
The LCD panel on the front was messed up. Some of the letters weren't legible. I called their support line and will have a new panel on Wednesday. Let's hope this is the only thing that goes wrong with it for a very long time.
-
How is my post confusing? If there's no anode rod, then it won't need replaced or let the water get smelly.
-
Here's one without the anode rod, with a lifetime warranty on the tank, 6 year parts.
The annual cost is a bit higher than I'd like, but I'm sure it's a hell of a lot less than what I'm paying now and wouldn't have to deal with the stinky water.

Thanks for the responses everyone. With the AEP rebate, I'll start looking more into the heat pump water heater.
Please keep the recommendations coming...

There's nothing for the Amazon Fire Stick or Kodi... So, I'd have to connect my laptop to my tv. Or buy a Roku for that tv, right?
