DAMN IT! I went out to start the bike and its back to running on one cylinder. I ordered a used CDI from ebay - if this doesn't fix the problem I'm selling this pig cheap or parting it out. Take the money and buy something that actually runs. Man, I'm po'd. I traded a perfectly good running EX500 for this thing and I get a bike that looks like it came from underwater. Freakin' screwed over. That guy that traded me can KMWA - I'll melt that extra key I have before I send it to him.

I cleaned with warm water then alcohol, then soaked/splashed the connectors around in a cup of alcohol - got a lot out of the connectors! The rear cylinder is hot again! w00t! Time to ride until I find something else wrong with it. But thus ends a 2 weeks search for the reason!

OMG! That looks better than sex!

$500 buys a lot of cleaning on my part I washed it with water and hit with some compressed air. Now letting it air dry and I'll give it a go. Worst case scenario I'll buy a replacement from ebay which seems to be going for about ~$150. But if I can get away for free I'm in! haha!

I've been troubleshooting the bike only firing on one cylinder for about 2 weeks now...everything in the ignition circuit looked ok leaving only the ignition module which is about a $500 electronic piece. So today I pull it off the bike and open it up. Here's what I found: Yep - that's mud. Meaning the bike was submerged at least up to the ignition module (just under the rear seat) in muddy water. The front of the bike looks clear, but the rear signal on the left side had dried mud in it too. Guess I'm starting to see why the bike had a rebuild title. You could never tell based on the outside of the bike. Not to mention I rode it 130 miles from the trade with no problem. Intermittently started going out. Could've been a katrina bike. Buyer beware even if the bike looks good w/ a rebuild title. Any tips on cleaning electronic components this bad? I think it'll work if I clean it right.

http://www.10tv.com/live/content/local/stories/2008/04/29/story_motorcycle_crash.html?sid=102 well he may not have stolen it, but he was riding a stolen bike!

Glad you're OK! What a freakin' sight that must've been - that dumbass coming right at you and nailing you...good lord. Glad too that you had your gear - you can only do so much on your bike and there will always be things that can happen totally outside of the realm of the riders control. Gear helps to deal with that! Get better quick!

There's something surreal about seeing a bike down - I remember after I wrecked I just kept staring at my bike. haha, just weird seeing it from that perspective I guess. Glad the guy is OK - I've seen 2 sportbikes pulled over this week at 71-N and 270. Wonder if this accident has them increasing their presence.

I bought some MotoGP Turn 4 gloves at IP normally $75 on sale for $25 - they're good, gauntlet style without the plastic. Might be a bit much in hot weather though.

I ride to work every chance I get - saves money over feeding me mustang! Plus it's just a lot more fun. And now, I have an obnoxiously loud cruiser to piss everyone off at 5:45 am
-
I can't believe the number of cruiser riders I see on the road not wearing ANY gear at all - its like they think that because they're not on a sportbike they can't crash! Most are older riders too - I'd bet many have crashed at one point or another. I can tell you this - after my crash I gear-up even if I'm going to the store. Don't care how stupid I look! And I do look stupid..because I just got a Suzuki cruiser and and I'm still rolling with my Kawasaki Sport Replica Textile jacket!

feels like it wants to flop over is what it feels like! I am getting better though

yea, I couldn't get any cash takers on my 500 - G/L!

Tire wear looks fine, no leaks anywhere - everything looks great. It feels solid - rode it 130 miles up 71 back to Delaware and it was planted and loud going to be weird trying to get this steering thing down - oh well, I'm really happy with it overall. The picture is either a bit old or its hiding some of the imperfections. Its a good lookin' bike but I'm going to have to put some elbow grease into it. It was alot smoother than riding my 500 down there - I was getting tossed around by the wind and it wasn't even that windy! On the way back I was smooth sailin'

I finally got to trade my EX500 for the '87 Intruder in Kentucky. It's a solid bike but the front tire is larger than the rear ( I think). I makes for some really funky turn steering. While making right hand turns I felt like the bike would just keep going. Off-ramps were particularly disturbing. The tire feels like its fully inflated although I haven't checked the pressure yet. At slow speeds this bike doesn't want to turn - normal for a V-Twin? I had one years ago but it's been a long time.
-
Thx - didn't get down there because it was that really windy day a couple weeks ago...damn near lost my ass on 71S because it was getting seriously battered by the gusts. Trying to setup to see/ride the bike tomorrow somewhere in cinci probably, maybe kentucky. I'll be sure to take a good look at the welds and the case.

I just came back from Pigeon Forge, TN and the smoky mountains. Good lord, I like twisty roads but those where just too much! haha! I wasn't even on the dragon, but we drove through the park entrance to cades cove and it was NUTZ - a solid hour and a half of nothing but twists, turns and blind corners with nothing along the sides except the rocky side of a mountain and a creek on the other side! Saw a group of sportbikes hauling ass through the turns as well, way to fast IMO but they were making it. I don't know - I wanted to ride the dragon but after a simple taste that I got I'm not sure I'd be up for it!!

I'm in - also we could link up with some central ohio riding groups like www.coreriders.com - these are some really nice people. Also I have some web programming skills - I could setup a web presence to help promote the idea. I think it'd be sweet

I've seen a few sportbikes on craigslist recently that have been "stretched" - what is the purpose of stretching a bike? Strictly cosmetic? What does this do to ride height/stability and pressure on the frame?
-
I'm supposed to ride down to Washington Courthouse Tuesday - if we like each other's sled's we're gonna trade and do the paperwork there. Also had a guy with an '86 Virago email me - I'll check that out if the Intruder doesn't work out. My first bike was an '89 Virago 750 - very fun bike!
-
he said that the guy he bought it from rode it for 2 years, but this owner hasn't put many miles on it. he says that he doesn't know why its a rebuild. I guess i'll just have to see it.

I'm thinking about flipping my '94 EX500 for an '87 Suzuki Intruder 700. I know, V-Twin...haha, but it's a great looking bike. Here's the rub - the guys says that the title is a "rebuild" title. That means the bike was crashed/totaled by the insurance company right? Then restored and passed inspection to get the new title? I haven't seen the bike in person yet, but the pics look pretty good: The guy is having a lot of work done on the bike and I'm really liking the '80's V-Twin look on this bike. When I see the bike what should I look for? I guess the most important thing is the frame - but has anyone every bought a rebuild?? If so what was the experience like and what I can I look for in order to avoid making a bad trade?
