  1. my goal by the end of the year is to keep up with lizard's 600 times at mid oh...

but like its already been said, get something that you won't cry over if you wreck it (say for instance into the beach at the end of mid ohio's backstraight...).

turn key, already set up that'd be my choice.

  2. i could learn on and not have to worry about demolishing if that happens

    bingo.

you get something expensive your always going to have this thought in the back of your mind.

get something cheaper not the bike of your dreams and that thought goes away. riding without that fear will boost your confidence at the track.

also wouldn't recommend something where you have to put a lot of time and effort into it. then you become attached to it and that thought if you wreck comes back a little bit.

its a trackbike. get something that works. doesn't need to be shiny.

if you can get something that when i knock it over and you won't get mad then thats the bike for you.

  3. parts411.com is having a sale on everything.

    you'll see a ID number 12354 -- 12314 --123

this middle number between the -- (ie 12314 in this case) is the coupon code. enter that in at checkout and get your price quote.

then take your new price to sportbiketrackgear.com and get your price match along with free shipping to your door the next day (if your north of cbus)

ps--the code will go away if you order something else, so you have to patiently do individual orders to get each price quote.

pps -- i have alpinestar smx boots for sale. used good condition. black. size 44 euro. 50 bucks. good starter boot.

  4. so this winter will really be my huge project. doing a thorough cleaning of the bike and doing a transmission swap to fix my second gear hiccup.

anyways these are just some pictures along the way, i will be updating this throughout my project.

this is about 2 hours into it:

this is my closet that i have to work with... this is probably where i will be keeping my engine when i drop it out of the frame as it is heated.

    DSCN1157.jpg

gas tank and rear are pulled,

    DSCN1158.jpg

subframe seat and exhaust... those little baggies on that cage is every bolt i have pulled off so far. i either have put it back on after i remove it or put it in a baggy and label it to keep organized

    header, front tire, and forks

    DSCN1160.jpg

its really just an engine... we are sitting on an engine and two wheels...crazy

    DSCN1161.jpg

at first i had a simple milk crate holding the bike up under the oil pan along with the front stand but it wasn't strong enough and was leaning a bit to one side... improvised and am now using the rear stand under the base of the footpegs. its just a quick fix for now i need to either take out the engine to take the load off or get some jack stands.

removing the swingarm tomorrow hopefully. draining the coolant out and dropping the engine either by end of this weekend or next week.

  5. they are all the same. we pee-ons will never be able tell the difference between any of these.

choose whichever one is the most comfortable for YOU. don't just sit on one for a few seconds and say hmm this is nice and buy it. sit on it for a few minutes, let the sales man pitch it to you while you sit on it and then sit on it some more while you ponder if you like it.

if during any of that time it become uncomfortable then obviously move to another bike. if you get uncomfortable in that amount of time, think of how uncomfortable you'll be after a longer trip...

don't just buy a bike for looks but it for how it fits.

  6. i had an electrical issue when i first bought my 6.

bike would run but the lights, gauges wouldn't work. blew the fuse 5 times before i figured something more had to be wrong. turns out i had ton's of shorts within the main wiring harness and ended up replacing the entire electrical system. somebody goobered up along the life of my bike.

  7. that was the original plan was to get a head start on cleaning the block up.

oil i was going to save until last just because that didn't involve something outside the engine to take off. such as the radiator with the coolant.

taking apart the bike was entirely too easy, i had nearly everything apart in ~2 lazy hours.

im not going to start tearing into the engine until mid january, id start now but i have exams coming up and then ill be gone for the whole month of december, and then ill get settled back into school.

i do have a heated closet in our garage i may just put the engine on a box crate and leave it in there until i come back.

  8. doing the transmission swap this winter brings a lot of things i have to plan and account for.

one question being the engine fluids.

i need to drain the coolant and oil obviously to be able to work on the engine and take it apart and what not.

question being will the engine be ok with no fluids in it especially in the winter months?

im in the process of tearing down but don't plan on doing anything engine related until january.

the next thing to take off is the radiator/headers obviously i need to drain the coolant to take off the radiator. will the engine be ok with no coolant until mid/end january?

    basically whats your advice?

just leave it sit until its time to drop the engine and then drain or would i be ok draining now?

  9. well i just found out that there may be some space that will clear up over winter quarter.

current situation is 3 car garage and really no wall room. just found out one of the cars is going home for winter storage so obviously that frees up a lot of space.

f4isvt right now thats the best option i got. would your table be able to collapse/taken down enough to fit into the back of a car (seats can fold down)?

ill keep my options open though.

  10. still looking for a workbench for the january or february months.

im replacing the transmission in my engine.

the project would require 2 weekends.

don't need garage space i would just be bringing the engine only.

i have all the tools i would need. all i need is a workbench.

prefer columbus area within or near the outerbelt.

dustin is a last resort if he's still allowing that.
