  2. Would you rather grow up in 1957 or 2009 and why? Scenario 1: Jack goes quail hunting before school and then pulls into the school parking lot with his shotgun in his truck’s gun rack. 1957 – Vice Principal comes over, looks at Jack’s shotgun, goes to his car and gets his shotgun to show Jack. 2009 - School goes into lock down, FBI called, Jack hauled off to jail and never sees his truck or gun again. Counselors called in for traumatized students and teachers. Scenario 2: Johnny and Mark get into a fist fight after school. 1957 - Crowd gathers. Mark wins.. Johnny and Mark shake hands and end up buddies. 2009 - Police called and SWAT team arrives — they arrest both Johnny and Mark. They are both charged them with assault and both expelled even though Johnny started it. Scenario 3: Jeffrey will not be still in class, he disrupts other students. 1957 - Jeffrey sent to the Principal’s office and given a good paddling by the Principal. He then returns to class, sits still and does not disrupt class again. 2009 – Jeffrey is given huge doses of Ritalin. He becomes a zombie. He is then tested for ADD. The school gets extra money from the state because Jeffrey has a disability. Scenario 4: Billy breaks a window in his neighbor’s car and his Dad gives him a whipping with his belt. 1957 – Billy is more careful next time, grows up normal, goes to college and becomes a successful businessman. 2009 – Billy’s dad is arrested for child abuse. Billy is removed to foster care and joins a gang. The state psychologist is told by Billy’s sister that she remembers being abused herself and their dad goes to prison. Billy’s mom has an affair with the psychologist. Scenario 5: Mark gets a headache and takes some aspirin to school. 1957 – Mark shares his aspirin with the Principal out on the smoking dock. 2009 – The police are called and Mark is expelled from school for drug violations His car is then searched for drugs and weapons. Scenario 6: Pedro fails high school English. 1957 – Pedro goes to summer school, passes English and goes to college. 2009 - Pedro’s cause is taken up by state. Newspaper articles appear nationally explaining that teaching English as a requirement for graduation is racist. ACLU files class action lawsuit against the state school system and Pedro’s English teacher. English is then banned from core curriculum. Pedro is given his diploma anyway but ends up mowing lawns for a living because he cannot speak English. Scenario 7: Johnny takes apart leftover firecrackers from the Fourth of July, puts them in a model airplane paint bottle and blows up a red ant bed. 1957 – Ants die. 2009 – ATF, Homeland Security and the FBI are all called. Johnny is charged with domestic terrorism. The FBI investigates his parents — and all siblings are removed from their home and all computers are confiscated. Johnny’s dad is placed on a terror watch list and is never allowed to fly again. Scenario 8: Johnny falls while running during recess and scrapes his knee. He is found crying by his teacher, Mary. Mary hugs him to comfort him. 1957 - In a short time, Johnny feels better and goes on playing. 2009 - Mary is accused of being a sexual predator and loses her job. She faces 3 years in State Prison… Johnny undergoes 5 years of therapy. Just thought it was interesting, though I'd say some of these are over/under exagerated

Interesting you mention F5s, I don't know many places that use them but they are pretty cool devices. Gov uses them heavily, and from what I hear, some banks do too.

  13. What’s Going On? 3 November 2009 8 Comments They say a picture is worth a thousand words. Sometimes, it will take a thousand words just to describe what’s going on in the picture. Here are a list of pictures, that had us asking, “How the hell did that happen?” Or, “WTF?” This first picture, for example. How the hell did this happen? I am assuming this is some sort of college game to see who can sit still the longest with their “wick” lit. However, we’re not sure. Anyone ever play this particular game? O.k. seriously, WTF? Bondage and sucking a cat off. (We can only assume the cat is alive.) This one we think we can explain. Cow gets stuck, farmer does his best to free him. But how the hell does he get the cow to stand so calm with a chainsaw throwing wood chips and the tree vibrating. Nicely done, Mr. Farmer. I don’t even know where to begin with this picture. What the hell is the dude in the KKK looking suit supposed to be? Then the obvious, what the hell are they feeding the kid, that they felt they needed some KKK clown? What is this? Some sort of Cat orgy? “I got first!” This at first glance didn’t strike us as odd. However, upon further inspection of the picture, there isn’t a road on either side of the semi. How the hell did it get there? How did it get turned sideways from the tracks. We’ve zoomed in and didn’t see any tracks in the snow in front of it. We are pretty sure it didn’t drive up the hill behind it. Just bizarre. We are assuming the kid laying on the floor in front of the kid sucking on the gun, has already had his turn and is dead. Why is the parent taking a picture of this?
  14. Access Any Website Or Forum Without Registering By Nakodari | Published: March 11, 2009 Visit any forum or website to find something useful and they will ask you to register. Every time a forum asks me to register, I simply close the site. You would probably do the same. But this time, lets face it. Before I begin, you should know how things work. All websites and forums will block unregistered users, but they won’t block Google Bot. What we will do is to switch our User Agent to that of Google Bot and freely browse any website or forum without registering. First grab the add-on for Firefox called ‘user agent’ here and install it. Now go to Tools > User Agent Switcher > Options and then again to Options. Select User Agent from the left sidebar and click Add. Now in the description field type: crawl-66-249-66-1.googlebot.com and in user agent field type: Googlebot/2.1 (+http://www.googlebot.com/bot.html) as shown in the screenshot below. Select Google Bot as your User Script by going to Tools > User Agent Switcher. Now browse any website or forum without registering. Alternatively you can also check out BugMeNot, it is a free online service where people share login information of thousands of websites and forums. Enjoy! The key here is that it has to allow Google's crawlers in.
  15. http://blogs.discovermagazine.com/discoblog/2009/01/29/the-curious-case-of-the-immortal-jellyfish/ The Curious Case of the Immortal Jellyfish It’s official: the only thing certain in this world is taxes. That’s because death, for a tiny sea creature, is not inevitable. Turritopsis nutricul, a jellyfish-like hydrazoan, is the only animal known to be potentially immortal. Once it reaches sexual maturity, Turritopsis looks like a tiny, transparent, many-tentacled parachute (only about 5mm in diameter) that floats freely in warm ocean waters. But when times get tough, Turritopsis can turn into a blob, anchor itself to a surface, and undergo a sort of reverse methamorphosis back to its youthful form as a stalk-like polyp. That’s like a butterfly turning back into a caterpillar. Scientists, who first described this phenomenon [pdf] in the 1990s, believe Turritopsis can repeat its life cycle indefinitely. The trick to Turritopsis‘ infinite do-overs is a process called transdifferentiation, which turns one type of cell into another. While other animals can undergo limited transdifferentiation to regenerate organs (salamandars can regrow limbs, for example), Turritopsi is the only one that can regenerate its entire body. Not surprisingly, the immortal Turritopsi are spreading. Native to the Caribbean oceans, Turritopsi have now been identified in waters near Spain, Italy, Japan, and the Atlantic side of Panama. Even though specimens from different locations have different numbers of tentacles (from 8 to 24), genetic tests confirm that they are of the same species. Researchers believe the creatures are criss-crossing the oceans by hitchhiking in the ballast tanks of large ships.

Rotating Tower, Dubai, UAE (Bamboo leaf for Dynamic Architecture ™ all rights reserved to Dr. David Fisher) Have you ever seen a building in motion that actually changes its shape? Sounds unbelievable but not to Dr. David Fisher. This building will never appear exactly the same twice. It is amazing but you will have the choice of waking up to sunrise in your bedroom and enjoying sunsets over the ocean at dinner. In addition to being such an incredible engineering miracle it will produce energy for itself and even for other buildings because it will have wind turbines fitted between each rotating floor (picture 2). So an 80-story building will have up to 79 wind turbines, making it a true green power plant. 13. Habitat 67 (Montreal, Canada) (Bamboo leaf for ken ratcliff via www.boredpanda.com) 14.
