I wanted an EMP but no .40's were in stock at vances and there weren't any on armslist within a decent driving distance. The EMP also had a higher price tag than the kimber, plus the kimber had the TC grips.

Are you wanting bends without a creased or ovaled radius? You can find used JD2 tubing benders on some fabrication forums and occasionally on craigs. Its a time consuming process until you get familiar with it and know where to place the tub so you have less cuts and wasted tube. My truck frame was bent and tacked together in one night.

I picked up a kimber ultra crimson carry II over the weekend. It is simple to tear down once you do it a couple times. I can field strip in in less than 20 seconds without the guide rod tool.

Also the type of firearm may determine some recommendations.

Went to Cabo Cocina on Riverside last night. Had read some great reviews so my g/f and I went. Salsa bar was awesome, the Hot Pineapple salsa was my favorite. Corona fondue spinach dip is probably one of the best quesos I've ever had. She had some kind of mexi mac&cheese and I had the big bang burrito. We were more than impressed with it and the patio/deck area was a great place to sit with the nice weather last night.

That's probably your best bet. Heat treating the steel with a torch isn't just about heating and quenching. Different heat treatments use different quenching methods, multiple heatings in an oven to exact temps, adding carbon, quenching in salt water or oil. While heating you are adding carbon (from the acetylene) and not in an even manner. The wrong concentration of carbon can make the steel weak.

Why not just weld a 3/8" plate on each side that also has a hole in it?
