Tonik
I never defrag any of my computers, except the servers at work. If you are going to do then my advice is to do it often, then. You can right click the drive and just set a schedule to do it every sunday night for example. Assuming the computer is on.

chevysoldier
Is there a reason to defrag or not defrag? I mean I know what it does but is there any pros or cons? Edited March 30, 2014 by chevysoldier
Tonik
So if this was a computer forum this would now be an oil thread.SSD drives, do not defrag them. Otherwise it doesn't hurt, but it does not help as much as it used to. Fragmentation does not happen as much on the newer versions of Windows. The pro is it will makeyour computer a little faster. The con is it takes time to do.BTW, I have since learned that it already is a scheduled task in Vista or newer.
shadyone
Why not defrag a ssd?
Tonik
Wears them out. You would think they would be more durable with no moving parts but apparently they are not and read writes wears them out faster.
chevysoldier
Hmm, I usually just defrag it occasionally when I'm not on it doing anything on it. That and clearing out the junk files.

I didn't realize that they automatically had it in the schedule to defrag, so I went in to look at that, and it doesn't have my SSD selected, even with "all drives" selected for defragging. Interesting.
