Track Tire Size For R6

n00b question before I order a set of tires for my 04 R6 that will only be seeing trackdays. Going with a set of Dunlop Q3s; should I bump up to 190/55 for the rear or stick with the stock 180/55? My Speed Triple has 190/55s on it and I would like to repurpose the tires for it once I wear out the sides on the track (if I manage to ride that hard). I know acceleration will obviously be affected a bit, but how will the handling change?

I would stick with the 180, I don't think you will like the way the 190 will feel on a 600.

you'll be pinching a Q3 190 on the R6 rim. 

 

Opinions vary on how much that affects handling.  I would not do it, but I know people have done worse (i.e. a 180 on a rim designed for a 160).

Talk with TwistedRabbit, he has been tracking an R6 for years and I am sure would give you a couple tips on the right directions to take.

Speak and you shall receive... Muwahahaha. Ok enough of that. I recommend like all others stick with the 180 rear. You will enjoy the flick-ability. The stock suspension geometry will work. And no worries about anything rubbing on the swingarm. Or chain. Or the likes. Any thing else just ask. I don't know as much about the s models. As I do the r but ya know

Stick with the 180 for the Q3 and any other street performance tire for that matter.  You won't need to worry about 180 v 190 until you step up to the DOT/slick tires.
