80% lower AR builds anyone

Has anyone on here ever built their own AR this way before where they send you a 80% completed lower, you finish the milling and what not, basically your own build without any manufacturers names or markings on the rifle? Sounds pretty fun

How would a failed lower result in an explosion? All the major pressure bearing parts are contained within the upper, aren't they? Maybe a ftf due to poor trigger group installation or something...but explosion? If my ar were to explode... I think I would be looking at what round I was shooting, and the breach/chamber before I looked at the lower...

Also the perfect way to blow your hand or face off if you are not skilled at milling.

...not to mention shooting your eye out...

If you have a milling machine and a jig it's pretty simple. Go slow, take light cuts, and measure often.  I like theTactical Machining stuff.

Oft talked about with us folks in the hills....cost savings is in question. Get the kit and 80% lower and a few trappings, you soon have the cost of simply buying one new gun and filing the required paperwork. In the interest of not having to file paperwork....uhmmm, Ares ( http://aresarmor.com/store/News) and another (I can't remember the name) (http://www.conservativefiringline.com/cal-gun-shop-center-battle-batf-client-files/ & https://www.facebook.com/tacticalmachining) are under Feds scrutiny and the Feds want their customer list of who bought the 80% lowers. Ares purportedly had dimples in the blank, yet to be finished lower....and that so the story went, made them BAD boys, and big brother wants names.

Better would be to buy a lil' mill and drill press combo and just carve out everything yerself and avoid any customer purchase trail. Like a Little Machine Shop Nano Mill and conversion kit, Lathe to Mill and Drill....and then the tools to machine metal.....the cost factor enters in....

Brownells has a DPMS "sport rifle kit" minus the lower and sights for $499. An 80% can run from 80 bucks to $129. Then ya gotta drill and hog out metal. So unless ya like building things, maybe just buy complete rifle and yer out plinking at groundhogs.
