max power
Due to the way my new house is built and the lack of ductwork I am looking into a mini split system.Does anyone have any experience with these?
Chrome
Just installed one in a house. They are the shit! Little pricey but well worth it. Kinda like a heat pump system in the winter.
max power
What do you mean by the shit? What do they cost to install? To run?How many run on one heat pump? Do you have to run the line sets up the exterior wall?
Chrome
They are the shit as in awesome! Cost is around $4500 installedCost to run depends on how much you run it. Roughly 20-50$ a month. Lines do run up the exterior but are covered.

Roughly 20-50$ a month.Lines do run up the exterior but are covered. This, also a lot depends on if you have ductwork etc in the house or if it needs added. I.E. friend in Ashville had one done in a home that was only set for Gravity heat from the old oil furnace, cost was 12,000 and it was actually a 2nd mortgage, he just didn't ask me about that before he signed the papers. It however is uber efficient and super legit. But the cost was extreme as duct work had to be run etc.
max power
The reason I'm looking into them is because I don't have ductwork. There is a unit that goes in each room. These do not require ductwork from what I understand.
madcat6183
Ahhh sorry I was talking a full size split, like he has heat/ac upstairs for all upstairs and downstairs/ground level for that level. So 2 ac units, 2 heaters, but for full house.
Chrome
Sounds like you need something more than a mini-split if you want a wall unit in multiple rooms.
jporter12
I've been curious about these as well. Most of what I've seen from what I've looked at can run up to 4 units. One of the first things to consider is if your electric service can handle it, an older 100 amp service would surely need to be upgraded. max power
Electric service is the first thing I am upgrading.
Chrome
If your going to upgrade go 220v. You don't want to restrict yourself if you want/need a larger system.
max power
The only thing holding me back is the fact that these things don't work below 30°. If I'm going to have to get a backup system anyway, I might as well put in ductwork and do a traditional furnace.
