TN adds truck restrictions to 129

NC had this for a couple of years, TN just added it so coming from the north they will be stopped now.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Following the completion of an operational and safety review, the Tennessee Department of Transportation has determined that vehicles over 30 feet in length will no longer be allowed to utilize a mountainous section of US 129 (SR 115) in Blount County, known as “The Dragon.”

From 2010 to 2012, there were 204 total crashes from the Tennessee/North Carolina State Line to Tabcat Bridge (Log Mile 11.19) in Blount County, with six of those involving fatalities. This is considered a critical number of crashes based on the type of road and number of vehicles per day on this facility. While only one of the fatal crashes involved a tractor trailer, there were a number of incidents involving large trucks. Due to the curvy and narrow roadway, incidents involving tractor trailers usually block the highway for several hours and prevent travel for all motorists.

Signage detailing these restrictions will be installed in mid-January. TDOT has coordinated these efforts with the Tennessee Highway Patrol and Blount County law enforcement.

North Carolina has similar restrictions for truck traffic on US 129 from the Tennessee/North Carolina State Line to the Graham (NC) County Line.

For travel and TDOT construction information, visit the TDOT SmartWay web site at www.tn.gov/tdot/tdotsmartway/. Motorists are reminded to use all motorist information tools responsibly.  Drivers should refrain from texting, tweeting or using a mobile phone while operating a vehicle.

Yea, but my post contained more info. Quality over speed. You remind me of the young steer standing up on the top of the hill with the weathered old steer. He says to the old guy, you know we could run down the hill and screw one of those cows. Old steer says yea, or we could walk and nail them all.

Dunno, been there, done that and got the t-shirt. We pulled off the perfect run man, don't think it can be duplicated.  Although hitting San Antonio and the Three Sisters then back through New Orleans and Barber Motorpark is tempting.

I've got the touring bug man, 10,000 miles this year and I want to improve on that. Maybe 15k next year.

I hit 15k this year almost to the mile. Lots of three day trips and a week in New England with the wife. And of course our run. Still going to do a one way run to Fairbanks Alaska and the Arctic Circle...then fly home and ship the bike. But that is a couple of years off, wife gets her new kitchen first.

Interested, but would want to spend a few days in Vegas at least two. And do several days back. I would think northern route there(I70 to I15) and southern route back.(to enjoy the less traveled states more). Or southern route there, northern route home and tour around Colorado a few days on the way back.

Ummm...

Neither of those steers would have been interested. They'd have been more likely to have moseyed down to join the cows (&heifers) for a good gossip session. :moo: :moo: :moo: :moo:
