Per the Koran, whether taken literally or subjectively.....what the "extremist faction are doing" is not in fact very extreme, but very much being a good Muslim. Not a good Muslim......you die, not a Muslim.....you die. Anyone that believes this is a religion of peace and tolerance, is in a total delusion. Convert or die, this is the bronze age belief/thinking which is now growing by leaps and bounds in the Islamic culture and day to day life. Why the "moderate Muslims" are not doing more to actively and physically snuff out this big problem, speaks volumes to me. I have a feeling that France and much of Europe are about to become not very politically correct, they have a lot of tough decisions to make. Here in the USA and Canada......we had better get ready, cause a shit storm is brewing.

Exactly. No one just gets out of bed in the morning and decides to kill people on their own unless their completely nuts, a serious asshole or have been wronged OR brainwashed with religion. Religion is the mask to something more. Religion is used to persuade someone lacking cause, self-worth or meaning. Religion gives them an excuse for their actions, while we guillably label them Islamists for the heck of it while someone more intelligent with monetary desires pulls the strings under the guise of a fucking religion.

I don't see any solution. If one Terrorist went into a Mall on Black Friday they could easily kill 30 or more people. And imagine if 20 Terrorist orchestrated that Attack to happen at the same time at 20 different Malls across America. Terroristic Intelligence can only stop a small percentage of plots.

I agree, but people don't like to feel helpless.  Accepting this reality isn't something most Americans are willing to do.

 

I am of the mindset that retaliation is warranted, but without extremely targeted strikes, we (meaning the U.S., France, etc.) just look like the bullies the extremists want us to be.  In some sense, I'm fine with that - "you mess with the bull, you get the horns," and all that shit.   But the practical side of me wins out, and I don't think fighting an idea with firepower is an effective response.  I think collateral damage and public displays of violence (even warranted) only serves to help recruit more extremists against the U.S.

 

It's hard to armchair quarterback this situation though, because there is a ton of information that we just don't have, and don't know how much the government has.  I have not watched much of the news this weekend, but I caught enough to see that at least one of the identified bombers has been on a watch list for 4 years or something like that.   He's on a watch list, but they didn't know he was involved in this plot???  WTF?

I think you've answered your own question. These groups have been at war with each other since they were tribal nomads, the inclusion of western-aimed ire started when we went into the area in search of oil and started to take sides. It's less to do with oil and more to do with "you gave someone I don't like stuff so now you're my enemy too".

This. Foreign meddling has consequences.  Who would have thunk.

You can not negotiate terms with an ideology that believes with every fiber of their being that you must kill all who disagree with your thinking.  People have been trying to spin this in every way possible stating "a religion of piece" or "this started with oil", but there are thousands of years of proof that say otherwise.

 

Are you willing to turn a blind eye to the genocide that is going on in the middle east and northern Africa and leave the region completely?  Leaving did not workout well in Germany after WWI.

 

People need to get a stomach and relies that violence is the only thing they respond to and stop worrying about collateral damage.  Either they learn to live tolerant of other religion and laws or face complete destruction.

Over the weekend CNN reported that the US gave France all the high value targets for ISIS.  My question is, why the fuck were there any targets left for France to attack?  We should have blown them to hell and back already.
