Today at work I suspended internet privileges for two students.

Noooo, I am not qualified to deal with children or parents. Not at all.  Administrators at the school would do that. I tell the Admin's/Teachers what I think about what they did...was it a serious attempt, were they hacking, is there a pattern in their internet history.  I also give them options on what I can do from a technological standpoint. The only time I would directly intervene is if there is a fight and I am near it. But I have only had to do that once. FYI, High School girl fights are intense.

But that's it, I am IT, not an educator.

Now, if there is something illegal involved..like child porn for example I would call the cops.

I have such a HUGE problem with home schooling.

Lol sorry I was being sarcastic. If they were going to be home schooled then I wouldn't bother moving back in the school district I grew up in.

When I was in 2nd grade it was Playboy magazine. Glad I didn't have a "big brother" like you. Very glad I don't have a job like yours.

I dont big brother them. Teacher caught them, we don't review internet usage until they draw attention to themselves.

Tomorrow I am going to dig into some pass the hash attempts from a computer. I hope it's just a mis-configured computer or virus. Cuz if it isn't someone is getting expelled and perhaps felony charges.

Hope you have a good day tomorrow. Glad I'm far removed from the educational system.

Yea, it sucks....but its also cool trying to help them. The majority are cool and doing the best they can.

I hate to ruin the suspense for you, but 2nd graders aren't going to be charged.

If their parents aren't properly addressing an issue, it will become a job and family services issue.

Different event. Older kids intentionally hacking, at a very advanced level. And those are charged all the time even for 'hacking' at a lower level than this would be.

But again, it is most probably a computer on crack.

Waterboarding and expulsion averted.  It was a computer that was being re-imaged and then being joined to the domain passing local admin hash's as it joined and applied a GPO to install an MSI.

When I was in highschool I used to ad-hoc/VPN on the school computers and hop on whatever I wanted with my buddies. I was regarded as a wizard by my peers. I never did anything malicious, our firewall was just (understandably) restrictive. I got away with it for quite awhile until they installed the software on the librarians computer that allowed her to view our screens. Our IT guy was really cool about my breach, took it upon himself to educate me in some of the ways of the force after that.
