Science Abuse
probably (and hopefully) the worst cataclysm our generation will see. Those shores are some of the most densly populated in the world. Compounded by the fact that its all poor, and there was no plans/preparations made for emergency tsunami evacuation, I am not realy suprised by the number. That is absolutely terrible. The waves went as far as Africa! "All the planet is vibrating" from the quake, said Enzo Boschi, the head of Italy's National Geophysics Institute. Speaking on SKY TG24 TV, Boschi said the quake even disturbed the Earth's rotation.

Guest Harris92
This is horrible. I had heard this was bad, but last I heard they expected the death toll to be less than 10,000. Earthquake of 9.0 magnitude! What tragic news

I just read that it was the biggest quake of the past forty years, and the fourth biggest of the century. I just cant believe that vibrations could be detected all over the planet! Bgbdbn
That is awful. I wonder how much warning the people would have had if all of the detection equipment had been in place.

black00ws6
There was a quake the same time last year in one of those 3rd world countries that killed over 32,000.
Mr. Jones
Sad part being that the figures thus far are just of what they know of. God only knows the complete aftermath when everyone is about accounted for. There are soo many missing that can't be counted for. I have a feeling this will well surpass the 32,000+ Mark
excell
22,000... I just can't imagine that sheer loss of life all at once! It's like an atomic bomb exploding over a major city.

Guest Harris92
I just read that the tsunami following the quake was 33 feet high, and while it was traveling over the water reached speeds of 600mph
