Guest Crankshaft
Now that I've had some time and I'm all moved in to my new house in Arizona, I can upload the pictures. These are only the "touristy" pictures; anything worth copying I've kept private. Hope you all enjoy them. http://img160.imageshack.us/img160/5420/europeparti0142tu.jpg This is a picture of the Baltic Sea from the shore of Copenhagen, in Denmark. http://img160.imageshack.us/img160/4503/europeparti0164bk.jpg From the beach. http://img160.imageshack.us/img160/3669/europeparti0327lu.jpg This was a small harbor by the sea. I thought it was scenic. http://img160.imageshack.us/img160/8734/europeparti0486ei.jpg An old tank at an abandoned military base in Copenhagen. http://img160.imageshack.us/img160/7279/europeparti0514wo.jpg This is the castle that the play Hamlet was set...also in Copenhagen. http://img160.imageshack.us/img160/3830/europeparti1070zr.jpg A picture of a church in Stockholm, Sweden. http://img160.imageshack.us/img160/8307/europeparti1129wi.jpg Old world, new world. http://img160.imageshack.us/img160/5825/europeparti1221rg.jpg The town hall in Stockholm. This was taken by a camp of Suami Indians, a people also known as Laplanders who live in the northern portion of Norway, Sweden, and Finland (an area known as Finmark). http://img104.imageshack.us/img104/6025/europeparti4567bh.jpg A cliff I climbed down in Hammerfest, northern Norway. It was gorgeous. http://img104.imageshack.us/img104/2237/europeparti4883xk.jpg While climbing through the mountains, I came upon a small clearing below me, and saw a family of arctic foxes. They didn't see me, and for the better part of two hours I crawled closer and closer to them until I was about 8 yards away. At one point the wind changed and this guy smelled me, and came closer to try and find me. Fortunately the wind changed again and he decided it wasn't worth the effort, and left before he found me. It was an amazing experience.

It was awesome. He peed right after the picture. http://img297.imageshack.us/img297/962/europepartii0014lm.jpg Soldiers marching in Alexander Square in front of the Winter Palace. In Russia, military service is compulsory for two years at the age of 18, and so everyone you see in army greens is very young. You never see anyone older than 20 in the service (at least I didn't) because no one wants to be in the military. http://img106.imageshack.us/img106/7281/europepartii0192uo.jpg Me in front of St. Iaasac's Cathedral. http://img106.imageshack.us/img106/433/europepartii0254xe.jpg A cathedral off of Nevsky Prospect, a main street in St. Petersburg. http://img106.imageshack.us/img106/9606/europepartii0279lg.jpg A canal looking down towards a beautiful church. http://img106.imageshack.us/img106/438/europepartii0292eh.jpg Church of the Spilt Blood of Our Savior. I saw it bitches. The Holy Grail of cars. It was the most beautiful...I can't even describe it. It was a piece of art, it was simply gorgeous. And, as opposed to what I had thought, it was really quite small. And that concludes the trip. It was a ton of fun, and I highly recommend to anyone who hasn't been out of the US to get your lazy ass up and go. You only live once, best to experience life while you're young (too late for you, TJ). Hope you all enjoyed the pictures cause it took forever to upload them. I booked my tour with a group called Contiki. It's for 18-35 year olds, and is pretty basic on accomodations and luxury. But, it's cheap, and gets you where you wanna go. Which, in this case, was some pretty remote places. I had a great time, and I highly recommend this kind of trip for anyone who hasn't been yet And yeah, Norway rocks. It has a population of something like 4.5 million people, and a land area of like 307,000 sq kilometers; so it's pretty sparse when it comes to running into someone when you're out in the wilderness. 50,000 islands, 2/3 of the land is mountainous.... you do the math. It's a great place to go hiking or exploring.
