Jeep was never part of Mitsubishi. Chrysler just had a joint operation with Mitsui during the Eclipse/Talon and Stealth/3000GT years. They shared electronics and engines on several other model lines but was never under Mitsubishi what so ever.

 

DaimlerChrysler owns-> Maybach, Mercedes, Smart....Chrysler-> Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep....-> Setra, Freightliner, Sterling, Western Star, Fuso, etc... (No longer Lamborghini)

 

General Motors-> Chevrolet, Pontiac, Buick, Cadillac, GMC, Oldsmobile, Saturn, Hummer, Saab, Holden, Opel, Vauxhaull, Isuzu, Suzuki, etc...

 

Ford Motor Co.-> Ford, Lincoln, Mercury, Mazda, Volvo, Jaguar, Land Rover, Aston Martin, etc..

Your local jeep dealer is taking orders now!!! That is the first jeep ever produced where lowering it would be...moderately acceptable in certain social situations.

 

I would have rather seen jeep make a WK rubicon edition, with front and rear lockers, and 31's, but I'm just joe redneck, what do I know.

Its important to say that many of these are only "controlling shares"

 

Ford doesnt really "own" mazda, it just has a "controlling share" (thank god).

 

luckily this didnt happen until late 1995, when mazda needed the help due to the japanese econony at the time.

 

GM doesnt fully own Saab, they just share resourses and GM makes some financial decisions, but the co. is still based in sweeden and primarily run out of sweeden. Same with Volvo, Land Rover, Aston Martin.

 

imo, DC is the best thing to happen to chrysler since Iacoca... It led to the SRT cars, and many of these 'improved' cars like the 300C etc.

 

as for Hummer, yea, they totally sold out.. to a company in great financial shape

Huh, Hummer has to thank Chrysler for their very existance! AM General was owned by Mopar at the time the HMMWV was designed and the prototypes built. That's part of the reason the engine bay in the Hummer is so spacious, it was originally designed to accomodate a Cummins-designed diesel V6. Mopar had to divest their interest in the company as part of the bankruptcy agreement, and could only keep one military program, so they kept the M1 Abrahms contract.

Once upon a time, there was AMC (American Motor Company). This company owned Jeep and Eagle. Being the owner of Jeep, they obviously held the contract to make military Jeeps. When the military decided it was time to improve, AMC built the Humvee, and got the contract for that. Everything was fine and dandy until the late 70's/early 80's, when AMC was sinking. AMC sold off Jeep and Eagle to Chrysler, but kept the Humvee program seperate, I don't recall if AMC kept it or what, but it was never owned by Chrysler. The situation we have now is GM decided to buy out the rights to the name so they could start making the H2 and now the H3.

Just remembered, the original parent company for Hummer was AM General.

 

Dodge never owned Mitsu, they collaborate occasionally on vehicles, kind of like Toyota and Chevy back in the 80's. The '06 Mitsubishi Raider is a Dodge Dakota with a different grille and badges.

No more DSM, but they now have formed Chrysler World Engines. They look like they are gonna be some pretty good engines.

Most plants will do that now. They'll sort parts depending on where they fall withing the spec. (low, high or middle) The first place you'll see the 'world engine' is in the new Dodge Caliber.
