kenny
I don't think government should have the right to tell me I'm not allowed to gamble.Like I said...

cmoosego
I think the only people that voted for issue 6 are those that only saw it as legalized gambling and didn't read any of the history or what it actually entailed. or for that matter really read the issue as put on the ballot... I voted for the issue because I read it... it says right in it that a 30% tax would be imposed on the casino's revenue, and it would be distributed to all the counties... but hey I hope they re-write it a bit clearer next time.... but then again I don't choose to gamble... so they wouldn't get my money anyway...Freedom of choice.... Kinda nice how that works....
fusion
I understand people may have misunderstood the issues or the full impact, but I think it's a moot point. I don't think the issue should have been on the ballot to begin with. If there needs to be special regs for gambling so be it, but for there to even be a question as to whether or not one can be built in Ohio I think is anti-American.Not sure I worded that as well as I wanted. MadMax33
C'mon fellow Ohio residents. Isn't our state motto "With God, All Things Are Possible." Let's all pray for a casino. Or better yet, let's tax the Hell out of the churches while where at it. Then maybe we can use that money to make sure that our students can get the best public education in the country. We can do this, I mean there seems to be a church on every corner and I'm sure those loving Christians wouldn't mind in the least.Hey, so what if those jobs are on the lower wage scale. At least it gets those fatasses off of their sofa's and out into the real world. Plus that's even more tax money for the state. Ah forget it, I need a hooker... Disclaimer
Or better yet, let's tax the Hell out of the churches while where at it.And that's the biggest tax scam of them all... we didn't get to vote on that.

cmoosego
And that's the biggest tax scam of them all... we didn't get to vote on that. then let's put an extra tax on everything related to motorcycles too.... or gaming systems, or computers, fast foods, or better yet lets tax anyone that makes over 1000 dollars a week an extra 25% so we can keep people slaved to the welfare system.... Churches/ religious places donate more time/food/money then any other organization in this country including the federal gov't so yeah start taxing them too so there's less to give .... smart really smart! cmoosego
I'm talking extra tax.... and actually taxing churches??? what a foolish idea... Tax Bill Gates what he owes... but don't over tax because he's successful... we don't need redistribution of wealth...

v65rider
As for the casino instead of changing the state constitution why not an amendment to allow it, and instead of having some out of state owner that has no tie to the state come in and try to scam us.We should go right into the heart of Columbus and turn the old City Center into a big casino/ resort. Bring more jobs to Columbus and bring more life back into the city.

They mission is definitely to serve the community. I have to make an appointment to see her cause shes so busy. they have multiple programs for elderly shut-ins, retirement homes, prisons, hospitals and many civic orgs. plus they handle many "walk-ins" every day. they buy clothes, food and help some with bills. They ask nothing in return. its called Charity, you know, the act of benevolent giving. Were we talking about gambling??????

They ask nothing in return. its called Charity, you know, the act of benevolent giving. Were we talking about gambling??????I am not going to speak for all churches but I know my church does TONS for our community...especially the inner city and prisons (families of incarcerated moms & dads). I give 10% of my net pay to my church (tithe) b/c I believe in the mission of our church. We have blood drives several times per year....house health fairs...etc. etc. There are several other things we do as well. for instance we have an outreach in our church to the public for support groups. I am a facilitator of a soon coming support group called women with an expected end which is directed towards survivors of childhood incest and sexual abuse. My church has TONS of other groups offered as well. You can't put a price tag on that kind of help to the community. Not all churches but most churches are there monetarily, emotionally, and spiritually for the community in which they reside.
Disclaimer
I don't think anyone is arguing that churches don't provide charity to the community at large. The point of contention, as I understand, is how much does it do for the local community compared to other non-profit, charitable organizations like the United Way.Not only that, but charitable organizations like the United Way have an oversight board and reporting requirements that makes sure its legit as a charitable organization. I've never seen the financial statements of my local church - how do I know it's not giving preferential monetary support to programs that I might have moral disagreements with?
