Bam
I'm looking for a 2 wheel tow dolly or an open, flatbed car trailer, and I'm getting different stories from sellers. Some have plates on them, some don't. Looking to find a bit more info out before I buy one, thanks for any help.

RedRocket1647545505
The company I work for also rents Uhauls. As Gearhead said: 2 wheel dolly - no trailer - yes
Bam
ok thanks, what about titles/bill of sales, is it only for trailers?
Guest Removed
if no title all you need is a weigh slip.(trailers)
Clifford Automotive
there arent really titles for trailers until you step up to some inclosed. like stated above you need a weight slip to get registered.
desperado
Ok, here's the skinny on it. A tow dolly does NOT need plates it the car that's on it has VALID plates. If a trailer is large enough that it requires lighting (weight it is tagged to haul is what specifies this), it requires a plate. Also any trailer that you add lighting to, regardless of it's size needs a plate. Meaning that a car trailer or any trailer that it, or it's load will block the view of the rear lights of the vehicle towing it will require both lighting and a plate. Hope this helps. And regardless of what ANYONE including me tells you, call the BMV to verify it.
Nitrousbird
I know for trailers: Registered with plate: YES Insurance: NO, as the automobile insurance covers the liability side. That said, comprehensive on an open trailer is CHEAP, so it's stupid not to have it.
Bgbdbn
Just got plates for my trailer. Lady at BMV told me anything over 4000 pounds needs a title and anything under that just needs a bill of sale to get plates.
