Model T takes on a HUMMER in hill climb

You know, just to see how the 316-hp, 4WD SUV would do against, say, a 100-hp 1921 Model T driven by a 70-year-old man. Like we said, it wasn't fair at all.

 

The HUMMER climbed the 475-foot-tall hill in 10.74 seconds and didn't even break a sweat. Among those not surprised at the HUMMER's prowess was Gary Le Fever, the Model T driver who was waiting at the top of the hill for the H2. Le Fever and his 86-year-old Ford had finished the climb in 9.96 seconds!

 

Not a huge difference in a conventional match-up, but considering the participants, an amazing triumph for the Model T's engineering simplicity over the HUMMER's hefty muscle.

Having a hard time buying that as being truthful.

 

My wife drives an H2 and while it can't get out of it's own way, it would certainly beat a Model T with 100hp.

H2's blow off-road but a Model-T?? I thought model T's only had like 30hp but a load of tq, even so I'd like to see the hill they climbed as I can't see 3in wide tires being that capable off road.

It might be 100 hp, but what does it weigh? Looks like there's nothing there. Maybe 1500 lbs?

I think there is a misunderstanding here: The hill climb was no doubt a heavy incline short haul, which the low gearing and light weight on the model T make it a natural for. Those things were originally designed for a 20HP motor, so if it's true that they used 100hp motors they are 'modified' Model Ts that have no reason not to be quick.

 

Oh and the H2 is a damn tonka toy, put a H1 in there and let it run over the model T on its way up the hill...

I'll believe it. I've been next to a Model T, they OWN the 0-15mph. And I'll bet Hummerboy was standing on the gas, causing the traction control to kick on, or the tires to spin.
