Need a new digital camera, any reccomendations?

My Canon Powershot SD100 just took a dump, it still works but the image is all screwy. I've had it a few years so I guess it's time for a new one.

 

I don't want to spend a crazy amount of cash, I'd say no more than $500 for a good one. Size doesn't really matter, I'm mean it'd be nice to fit it in my pocket, but I'd rather have a nicer resulting picture.

The S5 IS is the latest from Canon in the high-fidelity point and shoot category. If you don't mind carrying a larger camera (definitely not pocket sized) it will take stellar pictures, second only to a full DSLR that would cost two or three times as much.

thanks for the recommendation, I'll look into that one more. I'm not partial to canon, and I'm not really picky when it comes to pictures, but I'd like to have a good all around camera because my daughter is growing up and we do many different things so it would help.

I have the rebel and 800IS, love them both. The rebel really takes great pics but the bulk of it makes it kind of a pain.. I can show u some pics of the canon 800IS, it takes clear pics as well.

I picked up a Fuji S700 recently... the woman is technically challenged and she can work the camera just fine... it's fairly inexpensive and works great.
