excell
Looks like there hasn't been a thread about remote starters since about this time last year. Who should I see for a cheap, absolutely no-frills (can use the factory remotes for all I care) remote starter install for my 2002 TrailBlazer? I don't plan to keep the truck more than another year or two, so I don't care to invest into anything spectacular. All I want it to do is start. Thank you. Buck531
interesting. I thought about putting one on my wife's car . How much do they run? $100? less? Is there a way I can shove a midget under the hood and when I tell him to start it up in the morning he'll warm up the car?
Scotty2Hotty
PM me. Please don't go to Best Buy and waste your money on garbage. I can do a basic remote start for around $430 range with a lifetime warranty w/ keyless entry.
Scotty2Hotty
You won't get anything worth a damn for $100 dollars. You need to replace your key fob aka remote to do a proper remote start.
MrMeanGreen
Chris, go buy one and Tom Killilea will install it for some beer
excell
Unfortunately, that's vastly out of my price range for this. I know and understand what you're saying, but seriously, I have such low expectations for this and I want to get out of it for really, really cheap. I'm talking Bulldog + labor cheap. The farthest distance I need it to start for is about 300 feet.

Buck531
Yep.. $400+ is way out of my price range too. i was looking at something around $100. Hell, it would only be started from the house about 15 feet from the house to the car.

Hell, it would only be started from the house about 15 feet from the house to the car. I'm going to be honest, finding a remote starter for $100 is kinda like a needle in a hay stack. A $100 remote start will not be the best quality aswell. Something for that price range will have a pretty high failure rate, even if you could find one for that range. Most places like to quote you only the remote parts itself, not the bypass (the brains) that you need that is vehicle specific. Having greater range mostly means you have a system that will send out mutiple signals, meaning 1 out of the 5 sent will hit and recieve. If you plan on keeping a vehicle for a while, and/or it sits outside, trust me when I say you get what you pay for with certain brands of remote starters. Skinner
Chris you may have some problems with your TB if it has a smart/century key.
BloodRed
My friend got one installed on his Geo metro a couple years back for like $150 (parents bought it for him). I think he got it done at H.H. Gregg. Has been working fine since then.

We're more than able to do $360 out the door too, just not T-tapped like most the electronic stores like to do. On a manual transmission, there's a bit more to it. You have to set the parking brake, stick it in neutral, tap the start button, and then tap it again. It's more expensive on a manual, thanks to needed what you may call a clutch bypass. Connections should be sautered for the best connectivity
Scotty2Hotty
Chris you may have some problems with your TB if it has a smart/century key. Nope no problems on those at all. BMW's/Mercedes with the IR keys can't be done.
MrMeanGreen
Someone mentioned HH Gregg for $150. Chris, Tom is still around and was their lead install tech for years. Seriously, I'll shoot you his number if you want it, I'm sure he'll accommodate you and even hook you up with a remote start kit since he's still friends with the techs over there
stolen 5.0
I can sell you a remote start for $100, then $60 for your transponder(pass lock on your particular vehicle) and give you all the notes on the vehicle. Or for another $80 you can drive your ass down here and have it installed at out shop. I'll be up this weekend, I can bring you the stuff. mrblunt
Call Jason at Stereo Limited in Canal, yes they are still open. I'm pretty sure it will run in the 150 range and they've always done great work for me. I'm likely having them do one in my Max sometime this month. Sully
At the end of this month, after I'm done working 7 days a week, I'll be getting this one for my truck: http://autopageusa.com/t_inside.cfm?action=products&catID=1004&prodID=32ec4f06-0e11-4b15-b145-d28af84486d4 It has a range of up to 1 mile. GSXRAntwon
I got one from Autozone for 79.99 and it works great...you won't be able to integrate the factory remotes but for the price you can't beat it...and its a breeze to install.
