Farkas
Update 2/29/08 bottom of thread Update 3/8/08 2nd page Update 5/5/08 bottom 2nd page ---------- Well, I don't remember if I updated anyone with the replacement of my '86 Corolla but this is my 1980 Toyota Corolla. I had it shipped from Cali with an extremely rare Toyota 4 cyl 2TG motor(DOHC HEMI) stroked to 1.8l running about 10psi, full suspension, cage, fuel cell, etc and etc. Crunching some numbers the car weighs roughly 1700lbs with me IN IT, and made nearly 200hp/220tq to the rear wheels. It was a fucking riot to drive, however, I only got to drive it about 3 days last year before I spun a rod bearing from what I believe low oil pressure since it's common with these motors. I just got around to pulling the car apart to find a lot of things I'm very unsatisfied with, mainly the wiring and the clutter in the engine bay. SO, this will be the beginning of a new project.. I pulled the motor and pretty much decided I'm going to sell this motor since it's worth much more to some other people than me. Plus, I prefer to swap something more up to date that has a better aftermarket support, and really something I have more knowledge about. As I see it right now, I'm going to completely pull everything in the engine bay, relocate and hide the body harness, swap a Hi-comp redtop 4AG with minor mods, 4AG engine harness and ECU and call it a day. I'm very quirky about how things are done, so expect a very clean swap. http://a908.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/40/l_b284887fcce2df3b19517d05fddbed2b.jpg http://a175.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/29/l_0497be41aff223812f52edfdff19a626.jpg http://a34.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/43/l_8504720d00c20edb5379cdf7c78ad131.jpg http://a946.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/121/l_36650f5dd31f38cc514afa47d5134129.jpg http://a465.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/66/l_f403c4e25113ae9ff3c8a67ced5e62b8.jpg http://a65.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/96/l_7e9ba67805b67a364101d9b20aafeac8.jpg http://a715.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/5/l_cec8950126856c3457c5c131d8fac342.jpg http://a772.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/94/l_7f942c49b7577d0d74d069fdd7133ecb.jpg

Rally Pat
If you are going to put that much work into it, why not get a 20 valve?
Farkas
So, I was able to get $1500 out of my blown engine which seemingly had a bad turbo with a couple odds and ends that I have no use for anymore and picked up a couple new items. SOOOOO, I have a riddle for everyone: What motor did Toyota make from '91-'93.5 with VVTi, 5 valves per cylinder, put out nearly 170 horsepower and revved to 8500 stock with Individual Throttle Bodies, BUT never imported to the states? How about the 20v 4AG from a 1993 Trueno in japan running a Blacktop ECU and a MAP sensor harness? It's official. I picked up this motor for about $613 shipped to my door and found a .3mm head gasket to bump up the stock compression closer to the blacktops 11.1:1 from the silvertops stock 10.5:1. I sourced a Blacktop ECU and a silvertop harness which will be repinned to work with the MAP sensors and ECU. I will be converting the FWD waterlines and everything to a RWD setup and dropping this bad boy in with maybe 4" velocity stacks for a little added torque. http://a988.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/15/l_e26e84810c35c0161792410d11b3709b.jpg http://a803.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/108/l_2d56f7da8162f911dd579f19b1ed5c02.jpg http://a394.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/81/l_a90d7ac245797c0f086dd8747945f401.jpg Also I had my rear differential welded, thanks to the patience of my buddy Dan. http://a302.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/8/l_58062d729dbe6f025d39dd6ef0993fa5.jpg http://a522.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/108/l_9b810064abdeb8adf228194acc9ff8d9.jpg

Still probably won't put down the power your 4AGE was pushing out with the webers. Sad, but true. Nonetheless I'll be there.
Buckeye1647545503
Alot of work for so little power
Rally Pat
Alot of work for so little power Maybe, but it is not really about power. Aside from being one of the sexiest sounding, highest revving OE motors on earth, it will be super reliable. If you have the right contacts, there is good aftermarket support for it too. Its going to be SUPER reliable because he's going to replace EVERYTHING on the car. Even is something goes wrong its not like it hasnt been replaced. Thats like saying if I restore a 69 camaro completely it will then be reliable, yeah because everything i build is brand new. I like the project, its "neat", different and somewhat unique, but he's right. So much work for such little "power" in the end. Personally I'd rather invest the time in something else but to each their own, goodluck and keep us updated.

Just need a new bellhousing since my existing one is for a 3TC and drop this bad boy in once I change the waterpump.. everything bolts up like a stock 4AG would. BTW, that's two people that say it's not worth it because of the, "power." The car weighs, god, maybe 1700lbs with me in it. With a 4.77 ring gear it will be plenty quick, just not fast by any means. It's flat out going to be a REALLY fun car to drive, simple as that.
Buckeye1647545503
I totaly get the fun to drive but since you are dooing a motor swap I whould have went with something in the 300hp and Tq range it whould have realy uped the fun factor. I realy like the car and have been watching for one of those or a 510 or the like. I am just saying....well go big or go home basicly. Dr. Apex
Scott, you'd be surprised at how well almost 200hp will motivate that car. There's also a balance factor in there and the powerband of that engine suits a car like that well.
