I want a PS3 and I've had great experience with Netflix (DO NOT GOTO INTELLIFLIX!) so this is good news for me. However, it sucks you wasted money. I would get on the ball and sell that player you have now while the selling's good. I believe Best Buy's going all Blu Ray, too. Or was it Blockbuster? I dunno. Netflix only has 5-10 movies on our entire list available in Blu-Ray, and at least 50 available in HD DVD. Really sucks because once they run out of the HD DVDs all of our movies are going to have to go back to standard dvd's. At which point I will probably cancel unless they start making all of those movies in blu ray. I did however within the past couple weeks have to replace my HD DVD player, and I upgraded to the Blu-Ray - HD DVD player samsung combo unit. So I guess I am good either way it goes. jeffmeden Posted February 13, 2008 Report Share Posted February 13, 2008 The HD player isn't any more useless now, there just won't be new movies for it going forward, and Netflix won't be carrying HD-DVDs. It's still the nicest DVD player you can get (cheap upscalers you find for $50 do NOT compare to even the cheap Toshiba HD player.) Personally I have an HD player, and Netflix, and I welcome this news. The HD-DVDs netflix pushes out are so badly scratched that out of the dozen or so Ive rented, only ONE played all the way through after a careful cleaning. About a month ago, I gave up on HD dvds from them, most movies just don't look that much better in HD to warrant the frustration. I am sticking to buying the titles I like, while the price is right. In the past week, BB had a buy one get one sale and Amazon had a buy two get one sale. Regrets? I look at it this way. I would have paid $300 for any Blu ray player if i got it instead of my HD player, which was only $200. That's $100 saved. By the time HD movies are scarce, Bluray players will probably be about $100, at which time I will probably buy one. No but Bill Gates has made comments alluding to the fact that Microsoft may be yanking their HD-DVD add-on to the 360 off shelves soon and replacing it with a Blu-Ray version. Lets face it people, one of the formats always has to go. HD DVD and Blu Ray are virtually identical in terms of quality, just like VHS and Betamax were (even though Betamax had slightly better resolution, as does I believe HD DVD). It's the same exact thing as the VHS/Beta war. They provide almost EXACTLY the same picture, but whereas VHS was able to provide more recording time than Betamax, Blu-Ray provides nearly 40GB more info space on a disc. edit: beta../ubb/confused.gif Your now going to tell me there was something before cds. Beta's of upwards of 120gb per platter are testing now. I dont understand why people didnt see this coming. Many people have said that blu-ray has a better quality movie than an HD-DVD disk. In addition, HD-DVD is loosing the format war so fast that it doesn't even matter anymore, and now that Microsoft is going to produce a blu-ray drive, no one has anything to bitch about.
