I'm guessing for rally cross.

Bingo :)

I needed new tires for the summer. But since the WRX is for rallycross, I didn't see a point in buying summer rims if I could get 15s and rally tires for the same price. So basic summers on the stock rims and these bad buys for the dirt. And they'll become my winter rims, unless I win the Team Dynamics contingency and get a free set of rims. ;)

Hope you have ear plugs for driving down the freeway....

Yeah, if you look at them, there's no variance in the size of the treadblocks like a normal tire would to break up the howl. These are going to be LOUD. I'm still going to have summer tires on my stock rims for getting TO events. These aren't DOT approved, and they don't grip well on tarmac (lots of tread squirm). From what I've heard, you can drift around on dry tarmac with these. :D

$115 each which is about the same as a good summer tire. Though these will see rougher treatment than a summer. The downside is, rally tires SUCK in the snow. So I'm still going to have to get snow tires for the winter.

I've heard great things about Hankook's dirt tires. Too bad todays rallyx had to be cancelled, of course if they had done it you guys would be calling me to drag your asses out of the mud!!

My car was fine at the last RallyX, and that was like driving in pudding. It was actually Honda's R&D stage rally cars that had to be tugged out!

I'm thinking of making the trek up to Crystal MI for next week's RallyX there.

i wanna rallyx, it looks like fun. too bad my car would get destroyed driving off road

There's all sorts of cars at the RallyX events. There's even an automatic Honda Fit! It's actually easier on yoru car than AutoX. The Forces on the car are less, and you only really risk damage if you push really hard.

I've only seen two issues so far. One was a bumper cover that had one corner pulled off, but this was due to the driver going hell-bent for metal in a lowered WRX with stiff mudflaps. The other was a chunked transmission in one of Honda R&D's stage-rally preludes. The guy got stuck and was gunning it and shifting hard to get loose. His quote "I think the transmission's broke. It's ok though, we've got two more."

Really, if you don't go nuts out there, you'll be fine. :)

yeah my car is a lil low though. the bottom scrapes on some of the bad brick roads on campus. i heard there is a rental rally car, i may give that a try though

There isn't always one, so I wouldn't plan on it. Of course, there are some people who will actually rent a car and RallyX. :)

And they're ON!! :)

Mounted. The guy at the tire shop must be cursing my name. He had to fight with each tire, and balancing was a bitch. He even busted a knuckle at one point and bled on my rims:

Bit of a bulge. They're 195s on a 7" wide rim. I went with the wide rim because I may want to go up to 215s when I hit stage 2 power.

Dirty car, clean rally rims :p :

These things HOWL on the road. It's almost like having a siren. :D They feel like snows when pushed hard on tarmac, and they leave nice black marks behind if you lean into them at all. :)

I'm waiting for my stock rims to come back from Wheel Medic, so these are jsut holding the car up at the moment.

That's kinda cool. Authentic, rather than posing.

Oh they'll definately get used. Though whe nI'm done with the WRX, I'm sure it'll make some people go . It's going to have quite a few stickers on it. Some for fun, but some will be for racing contingencies. One set might get me new rims, another might get me money towards new tires. :D

My only thought went to "Enjoy packing the snow in those when winter rolls around again." I guess you've figured that out, so, enjoy the summer!

From what I'm told, Rally tires suck in the winter. They use a summer compound, so when the temp goes below 45 they go solid. So I'm still going to have to run snows in the winter. :/
