The differential pin is welded to the house, not the spider gears themselves. It's still an open differential except there isn't a 5mm screw holding the pin in place. There are also welds too so it doesn't fly out.

Some time later....

Car still runs amazingly. I believe I made a thread a few months back about switching to Ford EDIS ignition and that's doing an excellent job. I upgraded from my 7psi spring to a 14 a few months ago, and then tonight combined the 2 springs together for 21psi.

I'm going to try and hit the dyno here in the next couple weeks. My friend just made 460whp on 25psi and a 50 shot so I am jealous. Our only differences are he has a sleeved block and mine is stock, but I have better cams. Oh and my ~9.5:1 beats his 8.5:1.

I will soon hopefully report back with a nice graph and video of either success or failure.

Just a few updates...

I got the new MS3 processor for the MegaSquirt installed and running. What a night and day difference from the MS2Extra upgrade.

And just because Rob brought it up, I ended up removing the Ford EDIS module. :p I am still keeping the 36-1 trigger wheel and the coil backs, but I've decided to fire the coils from the MegaSquirt itself. The EDIS ICM doesn't allow for spark cut and it just gives me more control over the ignition.

I also got some new engine mounts which are a bit harsh, but it's better than having the engine rock back and forth. The ACT 6-puck is dead. It can hold about 8psi now before it slips. I've been in a buy-in for a McLeod twin-disc, but that's been over a year now so who knows if I'll ever get anything out of that.

I'll just add some more pictures just for content.

That's about it.

I actually did call them to see what was going on. They claim to be shaving down the supplied flywheel to determine how thick he can make the kevlar disc. He also said we will most likely have to have an un-sprung hub due to the lack of space (which is fine). This was around March 31st. When I say "who knows if I'll ever get anything out of that" I am stating that I have no idea if they are blowing smoke up my ass just to shut me up or if they are actually doing work.

Just saw this build, and i love it. I have seen videos of turbo saturns before and the best part are the looks on peoples faces after they have had their asses handed to them by a saturn. Good luck on finishing it, looking forward to some videos.

Meh, I don't prefer handing asses to people. It's just a hobby that happened to include this car, and it's fun to drive as it's quick, but also great for my long commutes as the fuel mileage is excellent.

What a great read and build. Thanks for documenting!

Funny, from my experience the least cocky people in the scene are usually the ones doing the most.

BIP373s, but if that transistor is bad, it could be killing the coil. I have spare VBs I can try, but I have some more testing to do tonight. This is the 2nd coil I've been through, and last time I checked the voltage output on the 2 transistors were the same (about .6v if I recall correctly). Maybe I'll put a scope on it and compare the 2.
