I've been there several times (though, admittedly, I haven't had a room there) and I was impressed each time. It's big - so it's on the same level as the rest of the mega-casinos there (e.g., Winn, Venetian, Bellagio, Mirage) - and it's fairly elegant, too. Personally, I wouldn't have any problems reserving a room there. I'm curious, though - what has been expressed in those bad reviews you mentioned? There are several major and what I could consider decent casinos in the near vicinity of Mandalay Bay, including the Luxor, New York/New York, and, I believe, MGM. Excalibur is close to Mandalay Bay as well, but Excalibur is a bit too "theme" oriented for me. If cost isn't a factor, then I would consider staying at these casinos: The Palms, Winn (i.e., the most expensive, newest casino there), the Bellagio, the Venetian, and the Hard Rock. No, I don't think any of them are "close" to Mandalay Bay, which is to say they aren't right across the street. But, really, everything is fairly condensed, and nothing is further than a relatively short cab ride away. smokin5s Posted July 8, 2008 Report Share Posted July 8, 2008 we just got back from staying at the Monte Carlo... we ha a suite there and it was SWEET! Hotel was always very nice and accomidating... I would highly recommend it... I don't like the Mgt at MGM and would not recommend going there.... Venetian is very nice if you don't have to foot the bill! black00ws6 Posted July 9, 2008 Report Share Posted July 9, 2008 I've stayed at the following Flamingo - good location, just average hotel but nice pool complex Riviera - dump treasure island - average, small pool. good location monte carlo - average, again, great location bellagio - one of the nicest places I have stayed.. best of the best in everything Probably going to stay at the wynn when we go out in Oct... I stayed at Mandalay last time I was there. I had no concerns whatsoever other than finally finding a pool table in the bar of "the Hotel" (part of Mandalay). Taking a cab can be expensive, and SLOW, in LV due to 2 things. It is very crowded on the strip and the meter is running whether you are moving or not. Secondly, It is illegal for the cabs to pick -up or drop you on the street. They must pull into a hotel/casino drive to do so. Akula Posted July 9, 2008 Report Share Posted July 9, 2008 Stay away from child like themes and old properties and you should be good. MGM is good and easy to get to mandalay. Tropicana is old, Luxor is nice but only if you are high up in the pyramid, NYNY is ok but crazy to navigate. Buteo Posted July 10, 2008 Report Share Posted July 10, 2008 Went there for spring break and stayed at the Tropicana....the hotel sucked. But, its cheap and mostly just a place to sleep. We spent most our money in other hotels and only returned to the tropicana when it was time to pass out. If I were to go back, Paris, NYNY, Bellagio, and Caesars all would be places I would stay. It nice 32' flat screen t.v fridge, stove top, and a jacuzzi in the big ass bathroom it was a nice ass room. Luxor gets a thumbs up in my book but yeah you have to stay high up in the pyramid like someone said the room was nice king size bed nice view of the strip a lot of things to do inside and was fairly cheap.
