Please vote YES on issue 6

Ohioans will have an opportunity to vote on State Issue 6 for Ohio’s Resort Casino on November 4, 2008. Issue 6 is to legalize a $600 million resort casino in Clinton County Ohio. The tax revenues will be shared with all 88 counties based on their population. This project will employ thousands to construct the facility. It will employ up to 5,000 jobs when it opens at an average pay of $34,000 plus benefits.

This means MORE JOBS, MORE REVENUE, PROGRESS, It will also boost our enconomy!

have you read this entire 500 page bill, and understand it?

+1

I'd like to know the finer details and whether or not there's any truth to the statement/rumor that, should the bill pass, that it would allow only ONE casino in the entire state.

So, where can we find information on the bill to read for ourselves? Anyone got a quick link?

IMO, casinos - plural - are great for Ohio; a single casino - just one - is okay, but not great, for Ohio.

I hate this shit. I wish they could just be completely up front with these kind of things. I'm definitely going to have to read more into this and I"m decided, at this point. It's just you don't know what to believe unless you read it yourself.

I don't know the link to the actual issue, but I did find this on BallotPedia.org.

Actually, they're (those opposed) worried it will allow more than 1 casino. The wording of the initiative allows loopholes for more than one casino to be built in the state by Indian tribes.

The last thing Ohio needs is another money pit for average folks to piss away money into. It will do more harm than good.

Sure fools and their money will soon part. But for the most part, it's those who travel out of the state who no longer will need to do so, they can finally squander their cash here.

The area is not far from 71 kinda in between Columbus Dayton and Cincy. I read quite a bit about it. I will try to dig up the links. The anti commercials are being paid by Argosy believe it or not. The law allows for one casino for now but splits the tax money with all counties in Ohio. The only casinos anywhere which are tax exempt are Indian ones. Well there is no Federally registered tribes in Ohio nor any land registered for Indians/use. So the no tax thing is bs and even if it was true this law doesnt have anything to do with it. CJ

This is a constitutional amendment. I will not vote to amend our constitution for something as trivial as a casino because one amended it's nearly impossible to repeal. It's the equivalent of a law "nuclear option". Bring it back as a simple law or ordinance and I will vote yes.

I think it has to be an amendment because I think theres wording in the state constitution that stops gambling, so no law could overturn it without amending it. But I may be totally making that up

Sorry... I'm voting no on issue 6. Look at where the tax income is going, and how it's being used. Absolute b.s. The county this Casino would be built in would see the most $$, and only a small percentage gets distributed to the rest of Ohio. ALSO the state/counties can use this money any way they see fit. It's not a for sure thing that schools, road ways, and other important areas will get this money. Hell it's more then likely going to line some politicians pockets.

Again, I question why this matters. The fact is, they shouldn't be able to tell us that we cannot have a casino.

On a side note, the county it is in (clinton) is almost completely based around a huge DHL warehouse that is about to close, which will basically ruin the area. So if you really do care about this bill in regards to helping the state, well, this county may just need the jobs more than any other.

I don't know if I'm reading this right, but it looks like it allows the option for this casino to turn into an Indian casino. If that happens, they no longer get taxed AT ALL.

This issue appears to be a complete mess, and to top it off, fuck constitutional amendments. That should be reserved for things that are huge, not dumb shit like this. If someone wants to come up with a clean proposal that doesn't give the option of fucking the state in the end, then I would have no problem with casino's here, but I honestly don't think that this should be the way to do it. I'll be voting NO.
