CCW people...come here

OK...I walked into a store tonight and saw this sign...There were no others..like the usual one with the gun w/ red circle around it. Answer this....cause it was discussed in my ccw class and called "a gray area". We ARE allowed to carry in all places that does not allow people to consume alcohol or does not have a sign saying no guns..

This sign confuses me cause there is no consumption here, but they sell alcohol to take elsewhere to consume. If I read this correctly, I should not be allowed to carry in any grocery store or ABC store...places like that even though most of those places do not have any signs at all.

yes. if there is liquor being served, no CCW. i dont test it when its a place with beer, like chipotle. better safe than sorry. i know i read something a while ago though in regards to CCW that seperated liquor from beer, which seemed to say carrying in chipotle is a no-no. do they ever do wine tastings or something like that there by wierd chance? might be enough to throw up the sign

i would call and speak to the store manager. looks like a giant eagle, right?

oh, and FWIW, i saw the same sign, along with a regular CPZ sign on the doors at raisin rack in westerville

They need to remove the sign to become compliant with SB-184 which states that firearms are only prohibited in places where alcohol is served with the intent of being consumed on premesis

I realize we can't carry in a place where it is being served...but how about SOLD to be served elsewhere OFF those premises? This sign goes against class training and could be trouble if caught doing what we were told we could do.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but, you can carry in Krogers and such due to the fact that they don't serve ON the premises.

-now, if they do wine tasting or something like that, I'm not sure how that'd work.

It is my understanding that places like Krogers and other regular businesses can post the 'no carry signs' (the ones with the X'ed out gun), but you can essentially ignore those. Only thing they can do if they catch you doing that is ask you to leave. I think where you can get into trouble is carrying where the .gov tells you that you can't carry. ie. bars.

I'm thinking that the sign you have posted is the wrong sign. If it's a Giant Eagle, Kroger, etc., then they should have the 'please don't carry here' sign, instead of the one you see now.

According to that sign, Giant Eagle considers themselves a "liquor establishment". If that is the case, all grocery stores, Wal-mart's and Meijer type places would be, too. That sign is not one like the X'd out gun where certain stores just dont want guns in. That appears to be a state sign...it has Strickland's name on it. So it's my assumption reading that sign is ANY place that has anything to do with alcohol in any way, shape or form is off limits.

That's why I believe they are in error by displaying that sign, UNLESS they have some sort of special case; i.e. They have wine tasting or the like.

Normally, you CAN carry in Krogers and such. Which is why that sign is a bit confusing.

Me thinks they are displaying the wrong sign.

but what about the businesses that have nothing to do with liquor/alcohol, and don't want firearms in the store (ie, my work, a bank/customer service building has no firearms signs posted)? maybe im looking at your post wrong.

Wrong, it was cleared up in SB-184

A CHL holder will be permitted to carry in retail facilities that sell alcohol for consumption off premises. (Giant Eagle, Wal-Mart, carry-out) as long as the license holder is not consuming alcohol and is not under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

You all REALLY need to have http://www.buckeyefirearms.org and http://www.ohioccw.org bookmarked

You are... that is a liquor sign, the stupid "rob me" signs are still valid.

p.s. Concealed means concealed.

Good thing printing doesn't = brandishing or open carry like it does in states like Texas

  • Concealed Carry Sign (NOTE: This is an example of a standard warning sign approved for use on state buildings. If you see this sign, it means that you cannot bring your concealed handgun inside. This sign is in the public domain. Businesses and persons wishing to post such signs are strongly advised to consult their legal counsel for language, style, format and placement.)

I know all about SB-184 and was excited when it passed. I also know that regardless of that bill...if a place has a sign saying no guns allowed, it supersedes any law or bill.

That is only the http://www.ag.state.oh.us/le/preven...c_hb12_sign.pdf sign

That sign that you posted a picture of is no longer valid because the ORC has changed, so it is NOT valid.
