a friend and i were talking the other night and we started wondering how much a master tech makes working on higher end cars like MBs or BMWs or porsches or something?

i said maybe 60K? he said like 100K... although we really have nothing to base those numbers on... just guessing really lol.

i know that it depends on lots of variables, but ballpark estimates?

it would depend on how good they are and how much work they had. i'm a master tech at a chevy dealer and had we not got so slow in the past month i would have been easy well over 60k. as long as we stay like we are i should still be right at the 60k mark

In 2000 my Dad helped me purchase a truck, and I found out he made just over 98k in 1999. He is an ASE and Mazda master tech. Keep in mind how good the economy was in 1999, and that would've been his 23rd or 24th year as a tech. He has always worked flat rate and back then it wasn't uncommon for him to get paid for 80+ hours a week. I'm sure higher end techs can make more, but these things greatly depend on the economy, and how well the others in the shop work. I can tell you he has made much less in the past few years.

i think those days are pretty much gone dealer wise. not sure about the high end side but even the import side seems to be down with the techs i know working at import dealers.

My Dad and I agree with you, he no longer works there. However ten years from now, who knows?

there's plenty of guys at busy ntbs making 60+. I know when we were low on techs a couple years ago i had a guy making 1300-1400 a week and he was nothing more than a glorified parts hanger.

God bless the R&R guys :D

^^ parts counter jobs are around 30kish max. I've seen techs (even at a high traffic Firestone/Goodyear) make upwards of 120k/year. It's a HARD environment to get into now... I went to UTI and am having a hard time getting my foot in around here right now. (Especially since I took Ford credential classes, and half the Ford dealers are going belly up in cbus)

You're at the Phoenix one? PLEASE do an MSAT!!!! Otherwise you'll end up job hunting for a while for a good job, or have to crack and work for Midas for a while.

thats the only way to make money at ntb a 45 minute brake job pays more than an intake manifold gasket :(

getting paid % sucks....gotta love flat rate!

got get me wrong both have down falls. but that 45 minute brake job pays 2.1-2.5 hours on flat rate.

It's good to see some of these numbers, I was kinda wondering what all was out there as far as wages. Anyone working for a private shop at all? Or anyone working a parts counter at a dealership?

my parts counter guy is make a killing at about 50 plus...but then he is the only one there.

and most private shop numbers are falling thru the floor. thats why i went back to the dealer last year!
