It'll cost a bajillion dollars to finish, but rumor is that the original 'glass front end and engine have been located. Also, from the notes on the auction, the seller seemed to indicate that Jay Leno was the buyer, so if that's true - he's got the money to finish it at least.

With no tranny or motor why is it rare anymore? WOuldn't a 200k car unrestored need a numbers matching motor and tranny? I call BS.

Car was 1 0f 6 I remember reading a article about a rotted out cuda vert sold for near a million it was 1 of 2 ever produced.

Hopefully whoever bought it does it right and restores it. Hell thy may already have the engine and trans.

OK I understand if they found the motor and tranny, however if not, no way Leno or anyone else is spending 200k on a shell, only to put a different motor and tranny in. I don't care if it was 1 of 1. It is not rare if there is no "numbers matching" Motor and tranny.

If it had the drivetrain, it would have went for much, much more money. The rarity of a super duty is already ridiculous, add to that this is 1 of 6 is just insane. If you don't know about these cars its hard to understand.

Here's an example of an ultra rare muscle car and it' value.

1971 Plymouth "Hemi" Cuda convertible

Value in 2000: $49,600

Value today: $2 million

Source: Kelley Blue Book

(Photo may differ from the specific car named. Car pictured is 1970 model.) Introduced in 1970, there were few takers that could step up the plate with the extra cost for one of these powerhouses, add to that sky-rocketing insurance rates and production was just a few hundred. Making its final appearance in 1971, it is reported that a mere dozen 'Cuda convertibles were equipped with the Hemi, no two alike in color, trim and transmission choices

I used to be BIG into the Old Muscle Car Craze as I got my first Muscle Car at 18 when I bought a 69 Road Runner (the year was 1973). The only reason I got out was the prices just kept going so high that it was NO longer feasible to race one or drive one. I got to go fro a drive in the very 1st HEMI E Body Convertible ever built, it was a red on red 1970 Cuda, it was owned by my friend Paul Suloff who was the National Marketing Manager for Goodyear Tire and Rubber.

Paul bought the car for one price and sold it within 2 years and doubled his money. The guy that bought it from him kept it for some 10 years and the car then went to AZ for over $2,000,000. Can you drive that car and have fun, sure, but at what risk ?

I will see if I can post up some pictures of a Collection that I have been to in TN that is owned by one man. He has some 50 restored Classics and Musclecars all in one building that is heated, air conditioned, dehumidified, piped in music, BIG Security.
