Tore the yz250 apart, piston is shot

So I decided to go ahead and attempt a top end rebuild last night. It is my first attempt at any type of small engine work (or any engine work for that matter) and it was surprisingly more easy than I thought.

So I get down to piston and this is what I find. The bike actually ran pretty well despite the piston being this bad. Should I worry about the bottom end having pieces of this in it (which there probably is) since it was running okay? I assume so since those metal pieces could probably dislodge and crack something even more expensive than a piston down the road.

it needs the case split to make sure you get all the parts out.

brake in = let it run for 15 then cool down and then another 15 and cool down then your good to go. never had a problem with all the top ends i have replaced and doing it that way.
